This was all bought up because of GB using the, "JP screamed at Kinnon" as an excuse as to why he left. I obviously bought up Knight because he was JP x 5. Did he win? Obviously one of the greatest ever, so he must have found a lot of kids that COULD deal with being yelled at. Most kids can. No way am I comparing Knight and JPs coaching success. That's foolish for anyone to even think that.

Thanks for playing Bill but errrrrrrrr wrong answer Indiana University president Myles Brand fired Knight after 29 years at the university, calling Knight's behavior “uncivil, defiant and unacceptable.” The man never wanted to leave and his career was pretty much not the same after being fired not exactly a great way to end a career. I’d say it was a bit of an embarrassment. So he isn't a hall of fame coach? Sorry you are incorrect. He was uncivil but still is in the hall of fame. Just like Trump, he is despicable but still is president. At least for now.

You think Knight would rather be in the HOF or would have rather not been $hit canned from a job he held for 29 years.

Including Baltimore AAU coaches.

I don't think he suffers from a poor self image and believes IU did him wrong.

You seem to be an insider with their family, and you're sure he left because he was screamed at a lot. So what? Welcome to D-1 sports. You still have no other examples and like I said, most went to get on the court. Which they failed to do here.

I thought Kinnon left because Jimmy basically ran him off. First he spilt Kinnon’s time with a D2 player. Jimmy was trying to prove Cam deserved a scholarship- that is until Cam lost a game at Marist for us . After that Kinnon was on Jimmy’s SL—and anyone who has gone to a practice and saw how Jimmy interacts with kids he is running off, it’s very obvious who he is targeting. Kinnon was never going to be a “star” he could have been a nice role player for us. What’s done is done

Tony, I lost faith in Jimmy after the public intra-squad scrimmage back when Rob Poole was a senior. Rob came in late and Jimmy started on him. He didn't yell but it was the oddest and most personal set of comments directed to his star player. My season tickets at the ARC were behind the Siena bench so was used to yelling by Coaches Kirsch and Deane but Jimmy's conduct I observed was really over the line for its hostility. I am guessing from GB that Kinnon got some of that

INqwnt to one of those scrimmages where he rode Mike Wolfe and Ryan Ivwr the entire time and even yelled at Luke and Greg a bunch. The tuff with the players was funny at first but he never stopped and was dumb with all of us there. If he had an issue with his coaches you speak to them or take it to the locker room later. He likes to be heard.

Bobby Knight’s personality I’m sure wasn’t exactly a secret to his new recruits. I think I’m going to google some old videos just to see him in action. The man is an icon.

I am guessing from GB that Kinnon got some of that I witnessed this same thing - it was, indeed, a bit nasty. But it was nothing that I would consider to be particularly uncommon in coach/player exchanges beyond a middle school level, especially if a player is late or has committed some other perceived misbehavior. If something as minor as that could send someone packing, that's some pretty thin skin. If that was just a "mild" version of what happens behind closed doors (or not closed doors), and/or it was continuous, I can see how some kids (families?) wouldn't want to continue.

I think we all would agree that coaches do and should get on players' backs when they are not carrying the water or putting out the effort - most coaches do it to make the player better and hence the team. The continued beratement of players to drive them off the reservation is what JP excels at - we've all seen it to one degree or another - he has to create vacancies in an attempt to correct his recruiting and coaching mistakes - if we held a secret off the net poll, I'm sure most of us could name the top 3 he's working on now...

In other words kids are soft in today's world. Spoiled and constantly told how good they are but when challenged and told otherwise they go into a shell. Some will tell Mommy and bolt some will show some balls and accept the challenge and help the team. Trust me these kids know everything about the coach, college and the community before choosing Siena. Then you have kids who just aren't as good as they think or advertised and they move on.
