Article makes reference to UVM (Becker) working HARD on the kid. That puts our chances somewhere between slim and none. I think Jimmy was actually there to see the kid in the background of the photo. Thats how he recruits

FWIW, Dom Welch had 30 points yesterday in his team’s game and 43 today on 9 threes. Man I want that kid in green and gold BAD. Also, Tariq Johnson arrived for his official visit last night and watched practice.. Averaging about 15 points and 5 rebounds per game at Mount Zion Prep in MD after averaging 24 points and 12 rebounds at the same level Camper played at last year. Known as a lock-down defender as well. Glad the effort is being put forward wish it was earlier. Let's see if JP can actually land them. If he somehow lands Welch and Johnson (still not holding my breath) and is at least .500 in the MAAC I'd be fine with one more year provided next year is a big year (MAAC championship).

MTS the flip flopper Not much of a flop. All he demands for retention is three quality recruits in 2018 class, .500 or better this year and a championship In 2019. Lose the championship in OT and it over. LOL

I was under the impression that we never wanted to operate like IONA. Say what you want about Iona- no staff in the MAAC works at recruiting harder than Iona gals-- amazing how if you work hard you get "lucky" It seems everytime I look at any recruiting site Cluess or someone on his staff is out looking at a kid. meanwhile here at Siena we are amazed if JP goes out 3or 4 times in two week period. And most recruiting is done in off season- of course Jimmy is on vacation most of off season. AT any rate I am happy to see a better effort by JP of late at recruiting. Lets hope it continues and pays off for him and Siena you don't honestly think Cluess goes out on the road recruiting? No head coaches do. Iona and it's success is mainly because of Grasso and the talent he delivers year in and year out. Grasso is far and away the most important assistant in the MAAC.

Agree on Grasso- yes he is a slime ball in my book, but the guy is out recruiting all the time, and Cluess is out recruiting 10 times more than Patsos. If our assistants don’t work hard enough at recruiting- well that falls back on Jimmy to correct problem. Have to get recruits in for visit and when they come have to put best foot forward- Jimmy can’t be arguing with players like he has in the past costing him to lose more than one potential recruit. Bottom line here is our staff is being outworked by other programs in the MAAC – and not just Iona

Moved a bunch of slightly off target 2018 posts to this thread. Anyway getting back to JP's recruiting- he and his staff have to work harder than other MAAC programs- not all kids are interested in playing for jimmy and his in your face style of coaching. I know for a FACT we have lost several kids because of that. Add to that as time goes by and his lack of trips to NCAA tournament will also play against him, 1-14 overall and 0-5 at Siena) since all kids want to play in tourney. IMO- biggest mistake Patsos has made at Siena is trying to recruit like he did at Loyola- basically at Loyola he recruited low ranked kids like he does at Siena - only 1 four year player ever recruited by Patsos has ever made 1st team ALL MAAC ( Cormier) and only a few that made any all MAAC teams. Patsos could get away with that at Loyola since he usually had several high major transfers in the loyola program- the one year he finished 2nd in regular season and actually won the MAAC he started 3 transfers and lastly nobody cared at Loyola, he only had to be competitive. My biggest disappointment in JP ( and reason why I think he needs to go) is his lack of recruiting success) he currently does not recruit at level consistent with level of success most Siena fans want. If you want to struggle most Nov, Dec and January and win between 8 and 12 MAAC games then Jimmy is YOUR man

Iona fans tell me he gets all their kids. All of them, and I believe them. I want him to leave. Cluess can stay.

I also don’t think it’s a coincidence they started 1-4 without him (losses to 3 mid-majors included in that) due to his father’s death and are 5-2 once he returned to the bench.

all of the above are correct. Just don't forget about admissions and how they will turn the other way towards academics. Grad rates prove this out.

From what it sounds like, Jimmy is recruiting like he's desparate, trying in the 25th hour to put in the work and hopefully get lucky enough where he can save his job.
Unlike a lot of you, regardless of how high or how low a recruit was when they were coming out of high school, I like a bunch of players on this current roster.
I just don't see that we have enough of them. Obviously Nico, along with Prince, Richard, and Penn, can all play at this level and be successful doing it.
I think the end result is still yet to be determined for Friday, Shivers, and Horn. This answer will all be dependent on how much consistency each of these guys show in getting better on a game in and game basis.
The rest of the squad is for the most part a mystery on whether they can succeed and where they stand?
A good high recruit does not mean they will have a great college career and a bad low recruit does not mean they will have a bad college career.

Where Jimmy and his staff need to make his relationships rock solid is with the AAU Coaches and HS Coaches.
They are the guys who will have the most influence in getting your foot in the door of a recruit.
If you have good relationships with these guys, you will have a lead source working on your behalf.
Work smarter, not "just" harder.
And if I were the AD of any mid major program, but certainly Siena, especially right now in the circumstance that they are in, I would also be following up with phone calls to many of these coaches as a way to sell the school, the program, and our Siena brand as a whole, so when a coaching change needs to be made, there's still a relationship there between the coaches and Siena.

Jimmy needs an ace recruiter who comes with relationships and he doesn’t seem to have that guy

I think they have some good connections but some of it comes from what Tony hit on in his post. Some of these recruits get turned off by Jimmy's in your face coaching. What they probably don't do is a good job is finding players that can deal with him. What probably hurts the most is that your asst coaches are the ones making the relationships with the player's. I think Jimmy needs to make a better effort on doing that in the beginning.
They need to balance that relationship part out.GMO

Reputation, past performance record, lack if NCAA trips as head coach. enough said that if a kid has choices they are Going with a winner. Period.
Not to mention if you did recruit from an AAU program (in bmore or ALB) and then it was known you screwed that kid over that bridge is toast.
