PPC: you're not allowed to call Richard a PG the rest of the year. Richard came to Siena to play the point. Tell Patsos he made a mistake then. I just reported the facts. Maybe you should try and get a job at FOX News!

Don’t you remember, the only reason long fouled was because the guards let their man go by them. Of course, most of it was actually patsos’ fault.

PPC has the rare ability to make people dislike players they'd otherwise like. You have a talent. I think she is unhappy that her disapproval ratings were going down - she is certainly giving it her all to get back into it with us...talk about agendas....

Another observation & just wondering... How many games have we gone into these looooong scoring droughts for minutes on end and no adjustments are ever made? Is it just me? Only folks that don't see it have their TV's, laptops, phones, iPads, and radios off..."in-game offensive adjustments" - not a phrase in JP's lexicon as evidenced most by the vertical position of his belt holding up the Mark Thomas accordion pants...

Early on in the season I was annoyed( probably just like everyone else on here) with Jimmy saying it's all about the MAAC. However after tonight it seems that the players are getting very comfortable with his system and it's looking like Jimmy may have been right all along. Hell of a game by horn, penn was solid again, and Nico scored near his usual clip. With that being said whether it was the ticky tack calls all night or he actually was committing them, Nico can't keep fouling. Hopefully returning home will get his mind right and he can be playing for the 25-35 minutes that he's supposed to be playing. Overall though I'm very pleased with how this team has grown and are consistently showing effort. Take it as you will but we were listed as a 10 point underdog and only got beat by 4. As this is a game that we could've certainly won there are many positives to be taken away from it Agree with everything you posted, one exception. The system. What system. The one where Siena has continuous shot clock violations. No great game by the kids. plenty of energy, Horn looked above everyone else, future looks up but the coaching is suspect.

PPC its obvious you have good perception of the game. But in this case Penn is the better PG, might not be the better overall player, scorer but the better point guard. Not sure you dislike him for getting fouls called on him, most pundits of the game have nothing to say but good things regarding players who have that unique ability. Richards seems like a good kid don't see him have a fit over it, nor should you.

while i understand the optimism with a "close loss @ Memphis" looking good on a resume... the reality is that this memphis team is NOT good. They have ONE win against a team with a winning record and that win is over Albany (10-3, Strength of Schedule 311). They are 1-3 against teams with a winning record and that is against the 265 Strength of schedule. Lets see where Memphis is by the end of January. They play 9 teams with winning records, 1 that is .500 and Loyola MD at 0-8.
Lets temper the interpretation of results to this game.
Siena plays the next 5 games against teams sub .500. With 4 of the 5 being at home. The absolute worst Siena should do against this stretch is 3-2. If Siena has ANY aspirations of turning the season around they go 5-0 over this stretch. There is no excuse not to. If they have any aspirations of finishing with a winning record on the season, THIS is the stretch that will determine it
306 Holy Cross (3-7) @292 Marist (2-9) 340 Quinnipiac (3-8) 213 Niagara (6-6) 276 Canisius (5-7)
the easy run then ends on January 11 when they play @108 Iona (6-5)

While I was very proud of the way the kids played last night it was so obvious when the suits hit panic mode as the lead started to erode. Without Jordan's hot hand we would not have even been close but at least recognizing that there were times when I saw the others defer to him as the hot hand (as it should be) and that there was some sort of (as I said yesterday) combination of the UA Purple and Syracuse Orange 2-3 zone mixed up in the plan of attack (yes, that Performance Plan must have been implemented). What I also saw was vintage, predictable Patsos...as soon as Tubby's team started to figure things out and decide to exert their will with more determination the panic ensued. Don't think the kids don't feel that panic, they do. Beyer did it, Lanier did it and Mitch did it...the same way at the same critical junctures in games. It is the difference between winning and not. Further, what really pisses me off is that these kids who have been playing basketball for a large part of their lives can't run an offensive or defensive set without 'looking at the bench/HC'. There was even a time out last night where the announcers were lauding JPs 'animated character' (their words) when he was screaming in their faces to 'look at me'. If I am the opposing coach, a big part of my game plan is to keep a defender on the ball handler at all times early in the shot clock during each possession and when the ball handler follows the directive to 'look at the bench/JP for the next move) strip the ball. Just sayin.......

It was clear that panic was settling in - if I was Mark Thomas or a salesman I'd tell him NOT to wear a colored shirt with any of their collection - he was sweating bullets and that two-tone dark blue image added greatly to the aura of panic - it's hard to watch - the kids work their asses off and deserve better, much, much better....

Really enjoyed watching this team lasr night.
I thought during stretches a number of guys played well, including Fisher. For the most part he played within himself, did some good thing's with rebounding, making picks, and contributed to moving the ball around and keeping the offense going. He has to learn to jump without fouling. Even if he can't jump high, at 6'9" you can altar shots.
Friday continues to impress me in stretches. If given the chance he can be an offensive low post difference maker for us, including getting to the line and making foul shots.
Richard not a true point guard at this level. Does not have a good enough handle or good enough moves to get by people all the way to the hoop.
That being said, I really like Richard. He should be getting lots of minutes game in and game out so we do not need him to be either a point or sitting on the bench.
I would start Friday, Nico, Penn, Richard, and Shivers and let Horn be the first one off the bench replacing Shivers.
Again, nice job fellas. Just need to have that 40 minute mentality rather than tightening up and being worried about shooting in the last 10 minutes of a close game.
Saw a lot of passed up open looks in the last 10min where we end up getting a worse shot because of that, including Penns three that went in.
If your going to have Nico roaming the baseline like you did, when he's open as he was a number of different time last night, throw the ball up there every once in awhile for him to go get it. It doesn't have to be a dunk as long as it's close enough for him to catch and put it in. This will also free him up for coming out across picks for the jumper or quick curl around in going to the hoop.
In closing, hopefully that was not the play for Horn to get the ball and shoot a contested three like he did without even coming off a pick? If it was that was the worse last shot designed play I have ever seen. Did you not think they would be covering the guy who made (8) 3 pt.'ers that game? To not even roll him off the pick to free him up or to not have 2nd and 3rd options would again be inept coaching if that were the case?
Ok. They have looked good against Louisville and Memphis for good parts of the game. Let's see if they can carry that mentality against lesser opponets in actually winning games?

I will say it again that you get Horn or Nico....not both because they have the same role on the team. Both are volume shooting guards. If the combo of Horn and Nico can score 35 a night like they did last night, I think we would all take that.

Fun game to watch last night. The difference between the 1st half and 2nd half was easy to see, Memphis upped the defensive intensity and made it more difficult for Siena to get into their sets. (they also had 10 offensive rebounds in the last 15 or so minutes of the game, which hurt a lot.) Like is often the case when mids play Majors, Memphis's man sized athletes overwhelmed the younger, smaller Saints late. I don't think Memphis is as bad as some on this board. They'll be a mid pack team in the AAC.
Hitting 14 3's can overcome a lot of shortcomings to be sure, but credit has to go to the Saints for taking Memphis' punch in the face and continuing to battle ... with a chance to tie it late.
I though Siena's offense was pretty good for the most part ... they got a lot of really good looks (and hit them). Yes, there were a 3 or 4 shot clock violations and Penn hit a prayer of a 3, but the ball movement resulted in a lot of open looks, especially Horn and Richard who combined for 11 3 pointers. And, they played for much of the night without Nico on the court due to fouls.
Siena held their own on the defensive end of the court and rebounding, plus got the majority of the 50/50 balls all night. Key play in the game, I thought, was the near steal which ended up with 2 Saints on the floor and a dunk and one. (Think it fouled Fisher out of the game).
There was a lot to like last night. Horn's confidence has to be at an all time high after the last two games. I thought Fisher played well, he really battled on the boards. Penn was solid all night long, he seems to get better every game. Richard, outside of the 3 turnovers right in a row, played well last night. Clareth played within himself but needs to avoid dumb fouls early that come back to haunt him later in the game. He really is a talented offensive player when he plays within the system.
I didn't like the last sequence that resulted in Horn trying to create his own 3. I'd have had Penn/Richard/Shivers try to get to the rim (to either score or kick for a 3), there was still 17 seconds left, enough time to try and extend the game.
Just like I said after the Louisville game, if Siena plays with the focus and intensity that they did last night (or against Louisville in the first half), they'll be difficult to beat in the MAAC. This team is not going to be pretty, it's all about out-efforting the opponent.

I would like to think with JP giving Penn the minutes he does he must have confidence in him.So with that being the case let him call out the sets he shouldn't have to come down looking over at you all the time.It slows them down and also let's the defense get set.The 4or5times they pushed the ball they scored Richard with a corner 3 and Nico with i think to layups when he was trailing.I think it's time to let these guys play faster it works for them ,if your letting your PG play that many minutes and doesn't turn the ball over.Let him call the plays it's not like he has millions to choose from.Let them play JP i think they've earned your trust by know.Go Saints
