Memphis is a big team.
They have a great all-around PG and size but they don't shoot the 3 very well as a team...just 30% This is a team you defend as if they were College of Charleston. Use a lot of 2-3 zone and try to double the ball down low as much as possible.
However, instead of using 2 bigs...play small and try to disrupt their bigs by raking at the ball when they put it on the floor in the center of the zone.
Even with their size, I wouldn't try to go big for big vs. them. Siena will fail that way just the same. Siena's best chance is to spread them out and 'out-guard' them and light them up from the perimeter. It looks like they play like us in that they are awful on the defensive boards but attack the offensive boards. Need to watch out for that.
If I were the coach Kadeem Smithen's defensive energy would be put to use here on disrupting the bigs when they get the ball in the post.
Memphis plays a fair amount of zone so I'd expect Siena will be taking a fair amount of jumpers this game. Hopefully, they are hot.

I think that this is a game that Siena can win if they employ the right strategy and avoid too much fouling. There's a first time for everything.
Maybe this is their breakout game. The usual mid-year game Jimmy inevitably figures it all out half by accident.

Why are you reading my mind i would start Smithen Nico Shivers Penn Friday or Prince.I prefer Friday i think he can have a Louisville repeat against these guys.If he would just take his time on his moves he ends up under the basket all the time.Against Albany Memphis guards hedge down when it went in the post if we kick it out quick, but if our bigs go body banging #$@$k.They bring in a another low post player but he's not tall just burly 6"5i think.Everyone has to rebound and with them hitting the offensive glass aggressively, we can or should gets some easy buckets.

That would probably be one of the optimal lineups if I were in charge. Based on Singelais and Kelly, Oduro might not play. This would force Jimmy into 4 out 1 in ball throughout. Hopefully, they play well enough to convince Jimmy to stick with it.

.@sienambb's Jimmy Patsos, who faces Memphis on Wednesday, said he'll review video of UAlbany's 67-58 loss at Memphis in @gothamclassic last Tuesday: "That's the one tape I'm going to watch because I value how good Albany prepares and I want to see what they did."
Crap. Jimmy's in the film room. Now I'm afraid he'll get 'idears.'

This is not going to be a pretty game. Memphis plays a pressure defense that the Saints will struggle with. Wont be as bad as last time Siena played Memphis.

This is not going to be a pretty game. Memphis plays a pressure defense that the Saints will struggle with. Wont be as bad as last time Siena played Memphis. We've faced better pressure than theirs this year. Their tempo is also just 318th in the nation...so they play a more deliberate half court game. The matchup reminds me a lot of CoC only their interior has more depth cause they're healthy. Their FG% is only 43.9% and, while they get to the line a ton like CoC/Bonnies, they don't shoot FT's all that well. Their offense is ranked just 174 and their D is 143. So they have a poor man's CoC offense with a D that's not nearly as good as theirs. And while Martin is shooting 36.5% from three this year..most of that came in one game.. and he was a 28.6% career 3pt shooter coming into this year. Memphis, at 30%, might actually be shooting the three better right now than they'll actually end the year. Keep them out the lanes with a zone as best you can and try to beat them to the long rebounds.

I would not be worried about the "pretty" aspect - very few of JP's coached games fall into the pretty category. Pretty implies structure and well executed plays, we get Helter Skelter without the music.

The usual mid-year game Jimmy inevitably figures it all out half by accident. This is a winnable game, I was really not impressed by them and disappointed how poorly UA played in the first half.

Certainly wasn't intended to involve you as we all can read and know your views - your warning to not expect a pretty game seemed deserving of a comment to help further temper expectations even beyond your message. Sorry my posts annoy you - just look forward to the that undefined time in the future when someone else will be wearing Mark Thomas suits at the TUC and you won't have to endure them anymore...Merry Christmas - enjoy the game and don't expect pretty.....

What do people think of a rotation that looks like this?
PG - Penn 33 , Smithen 7 SG - Bentley 20 , Richard 20 SF - Clareth 28 , Horn 12 PF - Shivers 28 , Smithen 10 , Heurter/Fisher 2 C - Fisher 14 , Friday 13 , Oduro 13

Wow- Memphis is ONLY a 10 point favorite at home. Against UA they were only a 1 point favorite.
Don't know if Siena can cover that number but taking an ass kicking is not acceptable. I want to see a competitive game. Memphis hasn't been blowing anyone out. They're just not a typical Memphis team.
