He's got a sprained knee, and won't be playing on trip. Hoping it's not an issue going forward.

JP said at the end of the game highlights video that Shivers won't get an X-Ray until the team returns from Montreal on Friday. I'm hoping they don't think it's serious otherwise he should have stayed home and gotten it right away. This is where you do NOT put "culture seeing" over basketball. This is not sociology class it's about doing the right thing for the team - winning games.

They obviously don't see this as a serious injury and if the one week he waits to get an x-ray means he can return to practice one week later in September then who really cares. Half this trip is about having fun and building bonds with your teammates, being forced to stay behind is just going to breed resentment.

He likely had an xray right after it happened which came back negative. They'll reevaluate it (including another xray) after a week to allow the swelling to go down.
My god, some of you have to find issue in everything. Dashaw and the training staff have been doing this a long time.

For those of you who know nothing about the medical field, an x-ray on a sprained knee means nothing. Clearly it isn't serious because x-rays only show bone not soft tissue. If they were concerned he would have an MRI which would diagnose any soft tissue injury. He will be fine!

You must perform the MRI to know the damage to the soft tissue. That is only done if the knee has swelling or lack of flexibility with movement. So if the swelling does not go down he will need one when he returns.

He won't be able to practice for at least another week and he can't go swimming for another half hour after that.

So Nico is fine as expected. We'll see on Shivers, looks like they will do the MRI next week. Hopefully it comes back clean.

Shivers MRI on Thur....doesn't sound optimistic. Could be torn MCL. Camper comes back Oct 20th. Might be forced into mix if Shivers is out for the year.

From my quick read on MCL tears, it looks like there are 3 levels. Grade 1 (small tear) is only a few weeks to a month recovery time. Grade 2 (most common-partial tear) is a 2-3 month recovery time, grade 3 (full tear/rupture) is a 6 month or possibly more recovery time. Hopefully the scan comes back clean or one of the lower grades and he can come back for the start season or at least conference play. If not, we'll definitely miss him.
