So Carleton has now beaten both Alabama AND Vanderbilt. Are we allowed to think of them as decent competition yet?
They still have 7 more D1 games to play before us...one of which is Canisius.

Has the game schedule been posted for Canada? Just have to know where to look... August 28th at 12:00 PM? Carleton University goravens.ca/teams/mens-basketball/schedule/August 30th, 7PM (with Video) McGill University mcgillathletics.ca/schedule.aspx?path=mbballAugust 31st, 7PM Concordia University stingers.ca/mbasketball/results.phpConcordia playing the least amount of D1 games...just 7. McGill playing 10. Carleton is, no kidding, playing 16 D1 games. (Towson, Alabama, Vanderbilt, Northern Colorado, Vanderbilt (again), JMU, NH, Canisius, Northeastern, St. Francis, Siena, BU, Northeastern (again), Dartmouth, Providence, Colgate) And all three of these schools will then play each other during the season.

I wouldn't read too much into that. Many of these big schools don't take these games seriously and use it to tinker with lineups/plays etc. If Carleton were to blow out Siena, I for one won't be calling for Jimmy's head over it. I expect some disarray from Siena. It's basically a whole new team learning who does what and how to play together.

They probably are decent - but I wouldn't go so far as to say these recent results mean that even at their best Carleton is talented enough to be beating these division 1 teams when the stakes are real.

I recently heard somewhere that Canada just beat the USA in the FIBA world cup. Maybe Canada is getting better. It is conceivable that Carleton, if really defending champs as they say, is as good as a decent mid-major type team....especially considering that an article talking about the Vanderbilt game says that they've won 13 of last 15 national titles. It is conceivable to me that the entire country of Canada could produce at least one pretty good team for themselves...especially since we have 3 Canadians on our own team. Many are also talking about Alabama being a top 25 team this year for what it's worth. They had the 10th ranked defense last year, didn't lose much, and brought in some big recruits.

Just from a quick glance at Carleton's roster. Eddie Ekiyor was a 4 star recruit that originally committed to Xavier, probably a better recruit than anyone to play at Siena. Eman Owootoah was a Fresno State transfer.

Plus realize so many of these trips the kids are having fun experiencing new country's and sights allot of them have probably never been on trips so there attention isn't always there and i think Alabama was tinkering with there lineups i do think Carleton is good but they've been in full practices also more then most teams. We need to find out what works what needs adjustments who competes lineups rotations not wins and losses

Collin Sexton is their frosh PG who was #6 in this year's recruiting class and John Petty was #21. Most of the rest were returning guys. Braxton Key had a great frosh year last year and was 33rd in his class. And they added a top 60 Ohio St. transfer in Giddens. There's really not much 'tinkering' needed for them when you have 6 top 60 recruits on the roster...which doesn't include the guy who was the 2nd leading scorer last year and missed the game. Not coincidentally, those 6 played the top 6 most minutes vs. Carleton. They only lost 1 guy in the top 7 scorers, add 2 top 25 recruits, and a top rated transfer.. There's your top 9. Done.

Many are also talking about Alabama being a top 25 team this year for what it's worth. They had the 10th ranked defense last year, didn't lose much, and brought in some big recruits. Canada won the FIBA U19 championship. Those were all kids playing, many not even in college yet (such as our very own Prince Oduro). That Canadian championship team would get crushed by most top 25 college teams. No doubt Canada has some serious ballers. And I'm sure Carleton is the John Wooden UCLA teams of Canada. But they are nowhere near the level of the dynasties of the USA. How many big time division 1 teams have lost to division 2 teams in exhibitions before going on to have great seasons? Happens all the time. Those Canadian players get 5 years of eligibility and have no practice time limits. So it's easy to see how they can jump on some division 1 teams not taking them seriously early in the season. To your point, they're certainly good competition and it wouldn't shock me if they laid a beating on a young, inexperienced Siena that will be heavily reliant on underclassmen.

Worth noting that Carleton beat Vanderbilt in the Virgin Islands so not like they were sitting at home while the Vandy kids were out enjoying a vacation.

I hear what your saying but i myself don't see Alabama as a top 25 team they play a slow pace of game they rely on defense there players aren't that offensively skilled and when you have a team like that it's why they struggle to score if anything your offense should be ahead of your defense and they can't shoot our guards probably better shooters then Alabama has.No way I'm comparing but i watched Alabama last year a couple of times and whew not fun to watch

They didn't even have a real PG last year and now they got the 6th ranked freshman as their PG. He had 8 assists in this game. I think they'll be pretty good. If not top 25, probably pretty close.
