Degnan was the biggest disappointment on the trip for sure. Fisher the biggest surprise. Good to see Penn finallly get off. Horn looks like a legit scorer. I was concerned with his athleticism coming in, but if you can shoot like that, the other stuff can be covered up. Fisher looks really good. Concentrating on inside, and had some impressive moves for his size. I'm hoping he can be a serviceable big for us this year. Wish we saved that last scholarship instead of giving it to Bentley who looks to buried for at least the next two years. That money could have been better user on an athletic big transfer at Christmas. Yeah the Bentley acquisition appears to be a yet another in a long line of head scratching Patsos recruiting decisions. This team has plenty of guards who can contribute, so he'll sit. That scholarship should have been used to shore up the frontcourt - especially if Friday isn't going to contribute until he gets in better shape. Maybe Huerter moves into the fourth big man off bench slot - but he seems more like a 3 to me. So that's the reason Friday did not play in the scimmages? Hilarious

Horn will get his. He's working his way up to being the 6th man. He's a 1/2, so he'll get minutes backing upon those two positions as well as spending time at the 3. I think Richard and Horn are battling it out to be the first guard off the bench, and Horn is making a strong case it should be him. He's bigger and more versatile than Richard, while apparently being just as good a shooter. This looks to be a 3 guard team this season, so there's plenty of minutes to go around for the top 5 or 6 guards. We're looking at a 8 or 9 man rotation this season. Bentley, Friday, and Huerter are likely out of the rotation. The biggest surprise of this trip is Degnan. People were sure he was a lock to start, but he may well end up the last man off the bench in the playing rotation the way he's going. Horn will beat Richard out all day as a 2g and so he won't play much. Horn will get lots of mins playing 3 positions. Penn will get all the mind at the point. If he has to earn 2g mins he would not play at all. Degnan was selected as a captain but has not gotten a chance to earn anything. Same with Friday. Fisher is taking his opportunity seriously and will start and play big mins. I don't see too many 3 pg lineups going forward. And only 7 will play significant mins I disagree. We're going to see mostly 3 guard lineups this season, so we'll see Horn and Richard in the game together with perhaps smithen at the point. Those 3 will join Penn, Clareth, and Shivers in the guard rotation. Jimmy wants to run, which requires lots of guard depth. He finally has it.

Running requires rebounding not a bunch of small guards Look at the video Patsos said the rotation of 7 or 8 and that is what he does. He also said Penn played alot of mins and was the only pg he mentioned. He will play 40 mins like Wright did. Only coming out if in foul trouble. Horn is the future so mins will be found for him. Nico and Shivers will eat up most of the 2/3 mins. So Khalil wont play much. He is not a 2g. Friday is out of luck as well. Season starts soon so the facts will come out then. We can all speculate. I am going on the pattern set over the past 4 years

Wouldn't it be nice to enter a new season with a bunch of new, fresh, eager, talented, hungry players and utilize the pre-season games to their potential - giving significant time to those kids beyond the typical Patsos-7 player rotation to build their confidence and experience at this level while evaluating how they play with each other? W's are nice early on but I'd rather really invest in the potential of a winning MAAC season with developed players that might outlast the normal Patsos-half-life career at Siena. The thought of players being earmarked as potential transfers after three exhibition games is painful. And I'm not talking about 25 second increments for those outside the chosen 7 or 8 that this coach seems hell bent on anointing before real games start. He should, in theory, have 13 candidates if he had any faith in his staff's or his own recruiting abilities. I agree with you here. The comp for PT should have included the scrimmages. I was surprised by how that played out myself.

I'm not sure why people are comparing Fisher's trip to his D2 game last year. In the D2 game he ran around the perimeter, chucked 3's, and happened to be hot. Throughout the season last year he showed that he was uncomfortable doing anything but shoot 3's, and he couldn't make one to save his life. During this trip he actually demonstrated an offensive skillset, whether it be playing in the post, finding space in the mid-range, or even putting it on the floor. Combine that with losing almost 20 pounds (I give him a ton of credit for putting in the work this offseason) to make him a bit more nimble and all he sudden he's a solid player. He'll never be an above average defender, nor will he likely be anything more than an average to slightly above-average rebounder. But if he holds his own on the boards and can score, he's a pretty valuable player. I don't expect him to average the 13 points and 7 rebounds he did on this trip over the course of the season, but I think he can give us 8 and 5 or something in that area. Some said the same about Bisping before he improved and was given an opportunity to play thru mistakes

Maybe he is destined to be the next "Round Mound of Rebound"... who knows. Problem is we will never know

But like i said they haven't had regular practices just occasional practices so it's a opportunity for guys to earn minutes Penn playing that many minutes don't see to many options at the point Richard Smithen and Horn new season begins when practices start

Seems like when Nico, Shivers, and Horn are all healthy that Richard is going to have a tough time finding minutes. The nice thing Siena has is if one of those go down they have Richard to step in if they need offense and Smithen if they need defense. The key is going to be keeping those guys motivated through the games where they aren't going to get any minutes so that they will be ready for the games they will be needed to play a major role.
Also, to the comment earlier about all the hate towards Evan. I never felt like that was the case. The hate was on Jimmy for putting him out there over better players and in games where he was clearly overmatched. I wanted Evan glued to bench but never hated the kid, actually felt bad for him for Jimmy throwing him out there and setting him up to fail. I'm thrilled to see all his hard work paying off and would love if he can be a major contributer on this team.

Mark Singelais: Siena's Jimmy Patsos said Kadeem Smithen and Thomas Huerter helped their case for playing time the most with their play on Montreal trip.40 mins ago · Twitter Heurter's trip: Mins = 30 Pts = 12 Rebs = 13 A/T = 1/2 Blk = 2 Stl = 2 FG% = (5/10) 50% FT% = (2/2)) 100% 3pt% = 0/1 12 & 13 with 2 blocks and 2 steals in 30 mins is pretty good. The fact that he can block some shots and get some steals alone is worth the look. Degnan isn't a great defender. Heurter has the mobility to be. At 6-7, 210 he matches up ok sizewise to most MAAC PFs while being more able to keep up with them laterally than his counterparts. Jimmy's comments about making a case for playing time are very nice and all, but you know how he is with his rotations when shit gets real. Just ask Willem Brandwijk and Kinnon Larose. There's a reason why there's so many annual transfers out of the program. Bingo!

Nico Shivers Horn Fisher Prince Penn
Based on the scrimmages this is the top 6. Who will be number 7? I see number 8 changing from game to game. And number 7 could play 25 mins or 10 mins based on foul situations. This is the reality so once again players wil leave.

Well we're not going to have only 2 big men in this rotation, so it's a safe bet Degnan or Huerter will be in the playing rotation. We're also going to see a lot of 2 in 3 out, so we'll probably have at least 5 guards in the rotation. Richard and Smithen are competing for that rotation opportunity. I'd like to see a rotation of 5 guards and 4 big men, but it'll probably be more like 8 guys total taking most of the minutes.

Why dont you believe this? It is what he has always done. Here and Loyola Those 6 that I posted are a lock. The more you can do they more you play. Richard is only playing the 2g and at his size that kills his PT. Horn can play 3 spots and Penn will be the only full time Pg. Smithen plays more than one spot and has some size for a guard so he is ahead of Richard as well. Friday is behind all the bigs so he wont play either. Hueter should be looked at to play the 4 but the numbers are against him to play more than spot mins

After being down by 10 to start 4th, Horn ties game at 77. Siena Basketball @sienambb · 17s BANG!!! Another 3 for Horn! He's got 22 points and were tied at 77-all with 3 · 3m HORN FOR 3!!! The freshman has a game-high 19 points and pulls the #SienaSaints within 75-72 with 4:12 to play. At that point in the game I told another real Siena Fan sitting next to me that after the Saints win I'll say the outcome was never in doubt. I don't know the ages of the Concordia players but McGill's youngest player was age 20 with several on their roster age 24.

I forgot to add that the Canadian players get to play for five years. I was told that one of the McGill Captains was the same guy who got in the skirmish with Rob Poole four years ago. The both of them getting ejected and Evan Hymes injuring his hand in the incident. More and more American teams are going to Canada for tough competition. Hofstra( with Kenny Wormley) and St. Francis Brooklyn men's and women's teams stayed in the Saints' hotel.
