“Roman and Jordan are both ready to play.” - JP “Both of them play beyond their age,” -Nico
It's sounding like Penn and Horn could both have top half of the league potential as PGs. Based on what I've seen of them and what I see out there in the MAAC returning and coming in, I like their games comparatively.
Could it develop into a 2 PG Shabazz Napier/Ryan Boatright situation like UConn had a few years ago maybe...? That's been my dream for these 2. Horn is 6-3 though so you also give up less size.

Interesting. I thought Penn had the starting spot locked up with Horn penciled in as the backup. But it sounds like they're equally good, so it's going to go down to the wire. A good problem to have. But Patsos can't have the starter playing 35 minutes a game while the other rots on the bench. He's got to find good minutes for both.

The good thing is that Horn has the size and scoring ability to play the 2 as well, so he can play some at both spots.

Pretty exciting to hear such good news. It's starting to look like this year's freshmen players have the potential to be a excellent recruited group. (in spite of a lack of substantial offers for a few of them)

Penn needs to win the job. This is all just for show.
Horn is better suited to play the combo role with his size. He's the new Ryan Oliver. Whether he starts or not, he's getting minutes.
If they're both good and they both deserve big minutes, Horn can't be the primary PG....because then Penn just rots on the bench for 25-30 mins a game. And that would be a complete waste...especially given that we need his speed.
And with the lack of quality depth at the 4, and Shivers likely to have to play there a lot...we'll need a quality 2G..shifting Clareth over to the SF..while he covers for Shivers while he's at the 4.
The real thing this competition determines is how much minutes backing up Penn Horn will get...if he gets them all or not. If he gets all the backup minutes at the 1, and Smithen hasn't improved his shooting...look for the real competition remaining to be between Bentley and Richard for backup 2G minutes behind/around Horn.
Remember also that without Camper we're "wing poor". Shivers and Clareth can't play the 2, 3, & 4 by themselves. They need to spend most of their minutes at the 3 & 4.
So the only real important competition is between Richard, Smithen, and Bentley for those SG minutes that Horn is either playing PG during or is on the bench. Other than this and Friday v. Fisher...the rotation practically writes itself.

Penn is the starter, and Horn is clearly the first guard off the bench. That's been established for weeks. Both freshman will see plenty of minutes.

I would think Richard would be the first off the bench. I don't see Patsos starting 2 frosh (assuming Oduro wins a spot) and having a frosh first off the bench. Three frosh in the top 6 is not the Patsos way.

I think the freshman are that ready that even if it's not his way he'll have to adjust because there doing what they have to in the practices to impose there will for playing time and that's good for Siena. If he doesn't play them for that being his way he takes a chance of losing them cause if the kids are proving they can play and not given the chance that's not how you build trust in young players

Didn't have to do that at Loyola with the transfers. I believe that this is a very pivotal year for the program that cannot be evaluated totally by w's and l's but by the manner in which they are won and lost...on the court and by the suits on the bench.

And maybe the kids that are returning have adopted the bad habits some of the seniors had? Maybe he'd like to start over with clean slate, open minded kids that will do things his way?

If that is the case then JP really should be evaluated on his (mis) management skills. He had no problem guiding some players to the door so to allow the bad habits of some of last year's Seniors to permeate is a KPI failure for a coach. It would be an indication that things were not in control of the staff.

I hear what your saying about showing people the door but if it was true about some of the seniors it was kind of too late for that.Sometimes with kids and adults there own interest gets in the way of the whole and you have situations like last year.Believe me big small mid major programs have those problems believe me I've heard plenty of stories like this if there was a problem. No quote here but heard some of the coaches yeah they loved there seniors but at the same time was ready for some new kids that wanted to listen and learn. But with that said known all you coach haters can start on your this is why he should be fired rhetoric.😥👄If Fran was here and so and so was here this wouldn't happen.Support the kids dislike the coach but stop with the if's.If shi#!! was money we'd all be rich
