Very interesting article about Marquis Wright and his pro career/aspirations. Touches on disconnect between him and coaching staff: mayoplease.com/wright-one-marquis-wrights-path-nba-takes-huge-stride/"How would you describe your time at Sienna? Playing under Coach Patsos? To be completely honest, basketball wise, I was frustrated for all four years. I always felt as if I was being controlled on the court and was not able to display the best of my abilities. For example, I felt as though I was only allowed to give 80% out of the 100% I had to offer. It was mental. Of course, off the court I had fun, but basketball is my life so that really didn’t matter; on the court was what I cared about. I received my degree, which was good, but other than that it was not what I had wished for. Though you obviously went through tough circumstances at Sienna, what encouraged you to press on even though you felt like you were not able to maximize yourself on the floor? Just playing for myself, and not letting him [Coach Patsos] affect my game. At first, I let it get to me, but I quickly learned my lesson. I still accomplished a lot throughout my four years by staying strong mentally and knowing if I play well it will only benefit me in the long run." Really odd to me that he points out such a obvious bad relationship between him and the staff. I'd love to know what he's referring to, my guess is it was him being held from being a true alpha dog the way guys like English and Robinson were during their time in the MAAC. We've heard how strong a relationship Javion and Brett had with JP but this just doesn't sound good at all. Clearly we had some pretty big chemistry issues last season, hopefully with a younger team with less egos we will be able to right the ship.

I think Marquis Wright will go down as another Tommy Mitchell. Terrific player. The coaches failed him. He would've won at least one title with Deane, Hewitt or McCaffery.

This is about as bad as it gets. About 20-30 times worse for the program then anything ever uttered on this board by any poster.

Gorvy - I think you seriously underestimate the impact of a successful former player making comments like that on the heels of what that recruit said a few months back. This looks very bad. I hate it for the kids and the school/program I love.

I don't know that they did. This could be that Wright wanted to be the superstar and that's not how we wanted to play. Or that Nico stole the spotlight from Quis and he didn't like it, and Patsos told him to suck it up. To me it's unfair to blame the coaching when we don't really know what happened. Certainly possible that it was JP's fault but we really don't know. Regardless of whose fault it was, this isn't good publicity. Good thing this article isn't exactly on ESPN.

I saw games last year and i saw the interaction between marquis and coach Pastos and it wasn't good. From my opinion on being a former point guard you have to be a extension of the coach and at times when you have a guard with that experience you should trust him.I played in high school in the late 80s i called my own plays i knew where everyone belonged and i know kids haven't gotten dumber it just seems a lot of college coaches try to control to much only way you learn from mistakes is to be able to make them.Maybe coach Pastos reads that and thinks about some of the things he could have changed.

Funny how those of us that knew what was going on were constantly ridiculed and labeled as haters - kids had to tolerate JP to play but few of them really enjoyed playing for him / he was too much "all about me" and still is

The mistake he probably regrets the most was not transferring after his Sophomore year when his father wanted him to because he (his father)doubted the ability if the staff to get to the dance in his four years here.

Wright was a 40 min player for 4 years. He was not held back at all. He took the most shots and had the ball the most even when he was moved to the 2. That was not a winning formula. Can't have it both ways. There were players that were held back by being pulled for every mistake or not playing at all. Wright never went thru that. He could turn the ball over 5x and stay in the game. Patsos should feel betrayed after reading this. Wow

Dear Marquis, I am sure you will forever be a legend in your own mind, too bad you chose to share it. Good luck, no JP in Hungary to hold you back, we will be watching and wishing you well.
