Missy, a little harsh IMO. Our draw is the campus and playing at the TUC and before the 5-6,000 sized crowds we have at home. Our problem is not the weak OOC schedule at home but the drop in MAAC conference rating and our current lack of strong branding as a winning high MM program. If you and other posters in the past are right that Jimmy and the staff was lazy, I don't think we can say that is the case this year. We lost McGurl to a HM school and Nolan chose a great warm weather city playing in a slightly higher conference. That's recruiting. I do wonder if Wormley's late departure might be scaring kids off though.

I'm a little concerned but before I judge this class I'll wait to see who we ultimately sign. I do like the names we're in the mix for - we're not losing out to chumps. You will miss more than hit when recruiting top players but there needs to be a couple of hits.
Right now we have 5 'ships for 17-18 - Degnan gets one, I think we sign a transfer (maybe in Dec?) so that's three frosh. Two really good ones and another solid player. You can get good players in the spring (see Nico) but to feel good we need to see a couple of talented kids signed in November.

Yup. Jimmys time here has caused the rash of loyal season ticket fan base. Had nothing to do with his predecessors 35-59 record and 7th, 7th and 9th place MAAC finishes. You think a kid would rather play AT Duke/Kansas, or at the TUC? Not YOU, THEM?
Program loses a recruit yesterday to a Big 12 school, their top recruit to probably Notre Dame/Villanova, and you come guns blazing of the programs "failures?" lmao

I do wonder if Wormley's late departure might be scaring kids off though. Not arguing about the value of the campus or the TUC; those values get amplified, again, IMO, when seen through the lens of a 10K crowd for a UA game coupled with the fan/media frenzy before and following such a game. We don't control the MAAC ratings (we barely control our own!) and, given the seemingly obvious existence of a senior laden team this year, more than one of our previous head coaches would have done their level best to schedule up at home. It is not inconceivable to think we may in fact win this year and get into the NIT or NCAA - that's my hope and it would be good news for the Program. In that same light, I see the possibility of a not so gleaming RPI and a lousy seed in either tournament - that would/could (you pick it) wash away any positives gained from winning the MAAC. The easiest way for the MAAC to improve its rankings requires the stronger teams to up-schedule - we used to do that very effectively. Not saying scheduling is easy but our scheduling doesn't appear to be on the difficult side.

OBTW, thought your man was brought in to bring us back to the levels we enjoyed previous to our last head coach?

Misspractice, we both took a wait and see approach on the prior head coach. We waited and saw and I admit it was an abject failure that continues to adversely impact the program. I would think you would agree that the prior administration was not successful. Patsos, while far from perfect, has some very good talent on this team and I am willing to wait and see what happens this year and what talent replaces the outgoing players before I pass judgment. Some misses are to be expected when you go against HM and other comparable mid major programs. I like the players that the staff has been involved with and if Nico is any indication of the talent that is/will be available at this time of year and later, I am willing to continue to wait and see the end result of the process. I remain optimistic about the success of the program.

Any chance we could spin the discussion of how effective the recruiting/scheduling is to another thread and save this one for actual recruiting news?

Two things Siena hasn't got going for them right now - program that is a pathway to the NBA (ask Wormley) and recent high level post season play
One of the two is attainable but we're in a chicken/egg situation - need higher level recruits to make NCAAs but need NCAAs to attract higher level recruits.
What we can realistically hope for now is to scout & recruit players who have potential to blow up once they arrive on campus ... Has been done before in the past & can say that Nico fits this mould too. Jimmy looks like he could be a long term coach if he returns Siena to NCAAs ... Once that happens recruiting will become a little easier - post season play and coach that will stick around.

I wanted McGuirl but we lost the kid to Kansas St. Nothing shameful about that. This is why you throw a lot of darts on the trail.
It's like when we lost Darrun Hilliard to Villanova. What are you going to do?
This is why the best recruiters are referred to as 'tireless'. It's a marathon, not a sprint.
I stopped paying attention to recruits as much as I used to because the guys you're in on early as a mid-major are almost never the guys you wind up with. It's not just Jimmy in that regard. It's the plight of most mid-major schools.
Who are some of the best mid-major recruits to the MAAC? Guys like AJ English, Khalid Hart, C. Lewis, Nico Clareth, Brett Bisping....most MAAC stars were late period recruits after the BCS teams thinned the ranks and missed a few.

Have to agree sky, the home OOC schedule for UTC doesn't compare to Siena's. At least Siena is playing all DI teams. It must have been the Hiwasee and Tenn Wesleyan and the 303 ranked Jacksonville St. games that sold Nolan on UTC.

MJS72, Siena won't be hurt in recruiting by Wormley's transfer. He is a me 1st non team player. I believe he was jealous of Nico's success. Nico was and is a team 1st player. Wormley has talent. He should have learned of Quis' production as a frosh. That of being a distributor foremost and a scorer secondarily. Proof was in the pudding as Quis' offensive game drastically improved over his soph. and jr. seasons.

Yes...and we play Niagara...UTC plays Tennessee, North Carolina and Vanderbuilt...a recruit doesn't care about the DII's as long as there are BIG BOYS to off set it. I am a Siena fan but I am also a basketball fan and I want to see the best and the recruits want to play the best.
