Couldn't agree more, no one, not any of the supposed insiders here know what goes on between the coach and the perspective player. Siena 95 you make some excellent points, but I have a bridge to sell you if you don't think the Ivy leagues schools don't help their kids financially, look at the hockey programs. D1 athletics is a business not a moral love sit in. The Ivy league absolutely helps them, but they are not beholden to a 13 scholarship athletic limit... but they also can't just have 17 players on academic or merit scholarships, circumventing any roster limit, so they have their own rules in place, which is why i said they are a different animal. They are also some of the richest institutions in the country, so the financial aid(however it is drawn up) coming from endowments, etc, basically create athletic scholarships, even if they don't call it that. Some kids end up paying a small percentage of their tuition, but given the presitge of the schools, if they are given a 90% ride to harvard, some kids are OK covering that last 10%, as you are paying peanuts for an ivy league education. Th Thank you you made my point. Perhaps I wasn't open enough in using the Ives as an example only, because of their holier than thou attitude. Basically any school can get around scholarship, limits by offering grants in aid, inter city scholarship etch. Whatever you want to call them. Appreciate your help in explanations and yes I have experience with Ivies.

- some of these kids arent recruited to play basketball. Some may be recruited to inflate the GPA yet never see the light of the court.
- Some may be recruited to be here a year or two to fill a spot while the roster is balanced
- some perhaps never shouldve been here in the first place and got a free ride for as long as it lasted.
we really dont know the impacts of transfers and graduation rates etc.
If the previous coach made mistakes on the recruiting trail then it may very well take time to get the roster fixed appropriately.
Sometimes the new coach has to fill out the roster with kids that may never see the court.
its a business. The days of focused purely on education etc are LONG gone.
