I know it's early & I haven't seen Kinnon practice, but I don't see him RS'ing this year.
Regarding walk ons. Depends, some times Fran brough walk-ons to some away games, some times he didn't. Jimmy too (I thought Cruze went to many away games his Sr season). I know Jimmy put him in against QPac to motivate his players.
I'm guessing it all depends on coach & money, no Siena rule against it that I'm aware of.

You don't redshirt a shooter on a team that needs shooters.

He won't RS. He's improved his body/conditioning a lot since I saw him last Christmas. He does one thing, that we need desperately, so well, that he has to be active this year. He'll still struggle guarding out on the perimeter, so when he does play, I wouldn't be surprised to see us play some zone.

I think LaRose has the potential to be a sleeper down the road. I think he plays this year and can help us with some much needed outside shooting. Smithen is sitting out, I wouldn't expect anything from Gottfried so if you RS LaRose now you're down to 10 scholarship players. Let's face it injuries, as we saw last year, happen (hopefully not to that level again). LaRose will fill Ryan Oliver's role next year after getting his feet wet in 2015-16. Wait. Smithen's red-shirting? I may have heard that once, but if I did, I forgot all about it.

He put a lot of work in on his physical limitations, and looked like he belonged in the one scrimmage I saw.

I think it's more, "he's a white frosh and people don't know what to expect of him until they see him in action." Kids who shoot 40% from three and 80% from the FT line find time on the court. He's a better FT shooter than Poole was coming out of HS, that's a pretty good indication of touch. He doesn't have to dribble drive, we have others who can do that. Oliver hardly even attempted to drive in his first 2 years and we still had a use for him.

Those stats are meaningless against his HS level of play ( it was really really really bad) did I say really bad! The true measure is when he steps on the floor vs college level players. I've seen him play HS ball the jury's still out. Had good games vs AA and looked poor in the sectionals for the other games that I've seen him play in. Had a decent game his last HS outting ... So who knows could be decent and could be a bust neither would surprise me. His race means jack shit!

And jumpers still need to go in when you shoot them no matter where you are. This isn't like White who was never a shooter. This kid has a documented history of consistent shooting while being the focal point of defenses...albeit sucky ones. The question with him is probably not the shooting but rather the rest of his game.

Look I'm an old dude and i can stroke it pretty good from the FT line .. It doesn't mean all that much.

It is an indication of shooting consistency. On a team with guys like Wright and Clareth who can get into the lane and kick out, a kid who can shoot consistently can be a valuable asset. Guys like Kyle Downey, Valenti and Mandell Thomas didn't play against all that great of competition either. They turned out ok.
