I'm of the mind that we should never recruit a guard who can't shoot from deep if he can't play PG. Shivers is not really a PG but at least he passes and takes good care of the ball. He is better than White was.
White was a walking, talking empty possession.
Wormley was best so far in what the Shivers/White role should be.
Smithen and Shivers are filling the role ok but the shooting % aren't good because they're taking more 3's than they should be.
We should really not see more than 5 three pointers attempted by Smithen, Shivers, Fisher, and JO the entire rest of the year.
They are 16 of 80...just 20%. Shut them down except in end of shot clock situations. That's a pitiful 0.6 points per shot. Make those shots 2's or give them to others and you can double that.

Really this is what this program has come to? He is avg 6 ppg for one of the worst teams in the country. Who is to say Huerter wouldn’t be averaging 7ppg for Dartmouth or LaRose would be avg 10 ppg for them. Does he look like type of player to you that would be a difference maker vs Monmouth or Iona’s guards? I don’t think so How many ppg he has isn't the point. It was shooting ability. This kid was shooting over 50% from 3. On a bad team with no help. How would he shoot playing with our front line, and continually facing zone defenses? We're never gonna go the Seaborn, Sam Cassell Jr route for kids. I don't think the school would sell out like that. No one is saying Barry is a world beater, just a kid that can play even though he doesn't pass "the eye test" (what 6'2" white kid does?). I know I'd rather have him on this team than a "eye test guy" like Shivers. Greenblood would love him too with his Ivy League smarts I didnt think Shivers was a eye test guy-- he was another kid with no offers. I like Shivers and maybe he works out OK, if we had an athletic team that could shoot, a player like him is fine. And again you can have some kids with no offers or few low level offers- you cant have a team full of them. We are already below average athletically. We dont have to go the Seaborn, Sam Cassell Jr route. If I remember correctly Fran beat out Richmond for Clarence Jackson ( a 4 year player) Tay Fisher,Dwayne Archbold,Prosper Karangwa,Marcus Faison, Scott Knapp, Jim Secretarski, Jeff Robinson etc etc they are few off the top of my head- all 4 year players, - with maybe exception of Faison, all were solid MID MAJOR recruits. I'm not buying all we can recruit is low major kids with no offers or low major offers To get back to your original intent- no I dont think Barry would be the answer. Maybe on an athletic team he could be a role player. We need "impact" players. Reason why we are so-so this year is other than Nico, the current staff has recruited nothing but "role" players the last 3 years and is the main reason why Jimmy's job is on the line

This is an extreme example of what's going on in DI basketball and some of the issues these players have. You can't always point the finger at the coaches. I guess that's why they're paid the big bucks.

Just hope there's nothing wrong, and that he finds a place where he can get and good education and get on with his life.

I too am sorry to hear this, although I never thought he was a viable D-1 player. Unfortunately, he is a kid whose parent thought he was better than he was.
