Marquis Wright was expected to be an impact player. Even By Sienafan himself. He, himself, called Wright the 'next great standout pg.'. You can't say it wasn't expected. You can often tell the major contributors right away. Richard may fill a bench scoring role but he's not a pg. 6 ft SGs aren't an ideal 1st option. Sooooo .....likely role player. Even before considering his D or year away from the game. Can't downplay guys who people knew would be starters and who are starters just to prove a point about these recruits. Yeah, 1 or 2 might develop into a starter or be called upon to be one occasionally but there's no near sure thing here. Not like we knew Wright, Long, or Clareth would be. This class lacks that punch. There might be some useful players, but impact underclassmen stars? Doesn't look like it. I didn't say I was among those who didn't expect Wright to have an impact. I was suggesting most others here didn't expect it because he was originally recruited to lowly Loyola and didn't have a bunch of fancy offers. That's what Tony and many others here have been complaining about - that Patsos is a lazy recruiter who mostly pursues recruits with low-major offers. That's the sole basis for why some here have declared the incoming class a bust. So my point is Wright was such a player, and would have been declared part of the poor recruiting had he been in this incoming class. And yet look at him. So have some faith that Patsos knows what he's doing. Just as I had faith in Wright 3 years ago, I have faith that at least one impact player will emerge from the incoming class. Either Smithen or Richard are my pick to be the new 6 man. And don't sleep on WB either. The think we'll see him emerge as the first big man off the bench who is a contributor on both ends of the court. We'll have to agree to disagree on this. From what I've been told Richard is a volume scorer who will remind us of Tay Fisher. I for one wouldn't mind having the reincarnation of that guy on the team again. And you're missing the point that this group of incoming guys isn't really focused on expecting contributions from rookies, as half of them - Brandwijk, Smithen, and Joseph - come in with college experience already.

Recruiting is tough. If Jimmy pursued a bunch of top-10 quality recruits, chances are he misses on 95% which would leave nobody. He can only get involved with so many kids at a time across all 5 positions on the floor. Finding the diamond in the rough is what he needs to do until, as Fran did, he wins a bunch of NCAA games and can get the blue chip kid. As with some many diamonds in the rough, sometimes they have flaws that are difficult to polish out. It is a crap shoot but much like playing the ponies, a keen I can improve the odds.

There's some truth to this. That said, if you look at who's being pursued for 2017, most of the players have a lot of offers from a lot to good schools. That's competition you can get into when it's well-known 4 starters will be gone by the time the 2017 kids arrive. But trying to lure a class like that for 2016 is unlikely. If you're a highly sought after mid-major player, why come to Siena and sit a year when you can have a shot today start elsewhere? Look where McCaffery had the program before he was getting guys like O.D. Anosike to spurn dozens of other offers to come sit for a year. Siena hasn't been in such a place for a long time fellas. The program has to earn its way back to that. Even with the success of that era, you can forget signing Basabe if Franklin, United, Moore and Co. were just juniors when he was being recruited.

Recruiting is an inexact science/art. I was just looking at Iowa's 2016 recruiting and when you consider what they lost this year in the Senior class, there doesn't appear to be a lot of impact players coming in, but you never know, maybe McCaffrey sees something that the "gurus" don't. As was said before, only time will tell, he does has one left to bolster the '16 class, so maybe he has one more card up his sleeve. I'm guessing that the Iowa fan board is looking at what was lost and what is replacing them and has concerns similar to those here about next year's possibilities.

Fran is very high on Tyler Cook, a 6'9, 240 lb. PF out of Chaminade Prep in St. Louis and a teammate of the Tatum kid going to Duke.

Montague teaming up with Larose at Sacred Heart Shawn Montague? Wasn't he the kid with 50 offers, and everyone supposedly wanted him? And he ends up at Sacred Heart? In May nonetheless?

Trueheart to James Madison Funny, he's not even listed on JMU's recruit list on the Verbal Commits site.

Trueheart to James Madison I really liked Trueheart, thought he would have made very good MAAC player. Wonder what happened? We never even got him in on a visit.

I thought he was a lock when we saw the interaction between him the coaching staff and the Siena players at the Canisius game in Buffalo.

Well this team already has a lot of big men, which is why Brandwijk had to redshirt. And then Sam Friday committed. So I'm thinking he wanted more opportunity for immediate playing time. With all the upheaval at JMU he may end up starting as a freshman.

No, I'm saying Friday wanted it more, committed quickly, and took the spot first. So now you've got Bisping, JO, WB, Fisher, and Friday to compete for time with. If you're a freshman big man at Siena, you aren't seeing the floor your first year. Meanwhile at JMU, he may not only have a chance to play, but there's a chance to start.
