If I were you I would raise holy hell at the scorers table. They've listed him as a f in every game this season. Even that game that Oliver started. Wright Oliver Poole all g.

We don't have shoters. just go watch a game and you will see for your own eyes. Just because they have not shot many in the games does not mean they cant shoot...Poole has shot more 3's than everyone else combined almost...he is proven and his number is called for that purpose all of the time...I can see Bisping Long and Wolfe shooting more 3's going forward within the offense Poole is the onl players able to hit 3s regularly - the others have been proven to not be as proficient at hitting them. I'm sure you've seen Patsos's comments in the media on this. HE has stated he doesn't want the team shooting a lot of threes because they are not good at it. He would know this better than any of us. This is why he is making a shooter like Taplin a recruiting priority. They also need someone to backup the point. There is no one right now. If Wright goes down, this team is in serious trouble. Why not get both in one new player? They need someone who can create their own shot and hit the 3 at a 38-40% or so clip. Neither Long, Bisping nor Wolfe have historically had that capability from deep - and they likely haven't shown it in practice, or they'd all currently have the green light to shoot too. Oliver was supposed to be the team's 3 point specialist, but for some reason that hasn't materialized. So they have to go out and get someone who will get it done. Long can indeed hit the three - as can Wolfe and Bisping. The question is: are they proficient at it? Patsos doesn't seem to think so. 3-5 in 12 games is not indicative of a lights-out 3 point shooter. We need a guy putting them up every night - and hitting at a 40% clip. So don't look at recruiting targets as replacing or recruiting over - look at it as filling a need. The team's 3 point shooting is a paltry 30.7% - and that's skewed by Long's 60% via hitting 3 of them on a statistically insignificant 5 attempts. Oliver (21 attempts), Poole (64), and Hymes (35) are the only ones with a statistically significant number of attempts - no one else has more than 12 attempts all season. Of those three, Poole is at 35.7%, while Hymes and Oliver are at an awful 28.6%. Bisping is 2-10 on the season and Wolfe is 1-6. White is 1-10 and Wright is 3-12. The numbers don't lie. This team needs a three point shooter...badly. It also needs a back-up PG. That means going out and getting another guard. There won't be a logjam when they get one, because those who aren't producing won't be in the playing rotation anyway.

Sorry PPC..In my opinion Siena does not run a 4 guard offense. You will see a 4 guard offense tomorrow night. Fordham will have 4 guards starting who can all handle and teams have to guard at the 3 pt line. Believe me teams would beg Long, Bisping and Wright to take lots of 3 pt shots. No knock on those kids but they have yet to prove they are a serious threat from 3.

Long is not the only G/F on the team. Both Poole and Cole are also swingmen that are capable of playing the 2 or 3. If Patsos lands Taplin, he'd likely back up Poole at the 2 for a year before earning the start there, while Cole with share the 3 with Long. There really isn't a logjam at the 2. None of the current players at that position can shoot save Poole. The team can ill-afford a starting shooting guard who can't shoot. That's why Patsos is heavily recruiting Taplin - a combo guard who's a great shooter that will succeed Poole at the 2 while also backing up the 1. He is exactly what the team needs - moreso than a 6th big. If a second school opens, then they can go out and get another big - preferably a bruising back to the basket type instead of the face-up type inside players the team currently has. When you say we already have 3s and 4s that can shoot the 3, I think you need to take another look at this team's three point shooting numbers. Long is a G/F on this team per Patsos...you cant change the facts with your opinion. Funny that you say that while offering your opinion that this team has 3s and 4s who can shoot the three. Sounds like an opinion that strays from the facts to me. You may wish to look at the facts I posted above regarding the 3 point shooting percentages. Poole is the only player good at it after a significant number of attempts. As for Long, as Tony correctly surmised I'm not denying he's a G/F. I'm just saying that he's not the only one. Cole and Poole, both 6'5 are as well. Here's another fact for you: Poole has played both the 2 and the 3...doesn't that make him both as well then? The 3 is called the small forward, it is a forward position typically occupied by someone with the skills of both a forward and guard. I certainly think Poole and Cole meet that description in addition to Long. I'm pretty confident we'll see a lot of Cole backing up the 3 next season - especially if they are fortunate enough to have Poole, White, and Taplin at the 2. Forget what the roster listing says, look with your own eyes who has played what positions. That is the only fact that matters for the purposes of what position a player is.

I just have to add that I do not get the fascination of calling Long a G/F. The fact is with Cole and possibly Taplin joining this team next year Lavon is going to play the 3/4. Not looking to stir the pot but those are the facts and he will be a major and important player for a Siena team next year that could contend for the MAAC title. In fact as of now it's possible Iona and Siena could be top 2 with what both teams have coming back

Only one fan has that fascination with LL as a G/F- it's called living vicariously through your kid.
On another note - who ever would have predicted that a thread named "Marcus Hopper" would make it to page 5. LOL

In a Patsos system the 2s and 3s are guards....and the offense is a 4 guard offense..that is not an opinion. .. it is not the traditional way it is the Patsos way that he explained very well during recruiting and I have seen in his Loyola team and now Siena. ..Lavon is 3-5 from 3 and is a capable 3pt shooter..his role does not allow him to shoot many but that does not mean he cant shoot them consistently..

LOL Wrong again...I have had my day in the sun and played at a higher level at that...not living through Lavon at all...why are you so bent on proving what Lavon isn't? Patsos made that decision...why cant you leave it alone instead of acting like I am creating a problem?

ok PPC..not looking to start a debate over a roster that was printed before games were played. Hopefully those three sharpshooters you say we have are hot tomorrow night because if Fordham is hot from 3 then Siena will need more than Poole hitting 3's to stay in the game. Can't win matching their 3 pointers with 2 pointers. We have to stop Fordham from going off from 3 as opposed to matching them...As a team we have not shot well from 3 and that wont change overnight. ..I was answering the point that we dont have 3s and 4s that can shoot 3s...we do yet the offense has not produced alot of perimeter shooting from those positions outside of Poole when he plays the 3...you will see that change gradually as guys continue to expand their games The offense hasn't produced a lot of perimeter shooting outside of Poole for the sole reason that it doesn't have other personnel that can shoot. Patsos is the one pulling the plug on them shooting it from deep deep often. He is on record saying he doesn't want them shooting a lot of threes because they aren't good at it. Would you like me to link to where he said that? It was right before the Hofstra game I believe. You might think that's going to change as guys continue to expand their games, but Patsos doesn't appear to see it that way. That's why his number one recruiting target is a 3 point shooting guard. That Tapplin is his #1 priority instead of a big man is a fact you can't dispute. Why do you suppose that is? Read between the lines.

A backcourt rotation with Taplin, Poole, Cole, Hymes, White and Wright next year would be hands down the deepest in the MAAC. to get minutes these kids are going to have to play multiple positions meaning Cole and Poole along with Long at the 3 and Long getting some minutes at the 4. The competition next year for significant minutes will be fierce. That's a good thing.

I like our chances in MAAC with that rotation

Marcus, as I said two pages earlier, is still here folks. This board exploded like a released convict's first visit to Night Moves! Sheesh - nothing has changed YET. So which is it, is the kid here and part of the team or did he get run out of the program?

Wasn't he given a full ride this year? How do you know he didn't want to transfer?

Taplin could be the most significant recruit the Siena program has pursued since Kenny Hasbrouck. He is the kind of recruit Mitch couldn't touch. If they land him, we'll know the program is on its way back to where it was in terms of talent. He fills two urgent needs, a versatile player who can backup the the 1 and start the 2 for the team, in addition to being a second lights-out 3 point shooter. Landing him would be a home run for Patsos - and in my opinion, he's missing link this team needs to contend next season. If a second scholly were to open, a back to the basket bruiser, while not as urgent a need, would indeed be icing on the cake. Though not that kind of big man, I'll gladly take as a second recruit Willem Brandwijk, who is the highest-regarded big man they have offered.
