add............1a) bring along some potential NIL money which will enhance # 1) on the wish list................... If Gmac is a go I’m very interested to see who’ll be assisting. He needs to assemble a decent staff. I hope we tweaked the payable. Carm’s rotating door of assistants (especially during peak recruiting periods) was a killer, as was deferring most recruiting decisions to a guy that was a bit out of touch the game today. We never seemed to be able to close deals on key targets and the more assistants moved on the worse it became. Agree 100%. He needs someone with HC experience on his staff, who specializes in defense. GMac has been in the 2-3 zone world his whole life. He needs a guy that can stress/teach defense. All while he's working with the perimeter players like he did at Syracuse. Would love Burns to be part of the staff. He'd be perfect to work with the bigs and help with recruiting.

It would be nice to have a solid relationship with the City Rocks again and Gmac and Burns should help. I think it would also be smart to have another assistant who’s very plugged into one of NYC, NJ, New England or Philly.

Don’t want to keep beating the Will B for lead assistant drum but he can coach; with the Saint Rose women’s team (yeah IK D2 women😉) they ranked 1st in the nation in defensive points allowed per game, 1st in the nation in defensive field goal percentage, and top 30 defensive in three-point field goal percentage. He seems to be able to coach defense as well as provide prior D1 HC experience. Will also didn’t rule an assistant gig as an option.

Have to get a HC and assistants as quick as possible. Brady and Mike Deane as his assistant would be interesting but i doubt Mike would leave retirement.

every guy getting a HC position has a list of potential assistants he would like to add to his staff and he knows their strengths and connections. If it is GMac, he has years of experience on the recruiting trail and is familiar with numerous assistant coaches and former head coaches he has known along the way. I'm sure his list is extensive.

I'm sure it is extensive, at least until he sees how little Siena pays their assistant coaches and then I suspect the list will dwindle quite a bit!

The previous wouldn’t have fired Carm with two years left and be prepared to pay GMAC in the $600K range. I’m sure he’ll get a good pot for his assistants.

I'm sure assistant salaries is part of the negotiation process. So, he would know the landscape in his decision making process.

I'm sure assistant salaries is part of the negotiation process. So, he would know the landscape in his decision making process. For sure, but ultimately any bumps he is looking for in assistant salaries is going to require a trade off in his salary. So do you think his focus is going to be on looking out for his family or on his future hypothetical assistants? I think this is what happened when Carm negotiated his extension. He maximized what he could get rather than looking out for his assistants. Tough to blame him but the relationship with the assistants sure deteriorated rapidly after that and never recovered with the exception of Bobby.

I'm sure he has had these conversations with the people negotiating his contract. If Siena's number is not to his team's liking and it is a dealbreaker than they walk away. If Siena really wants GMac accommodations will have to be made. Let's see what happens.
