I personally don't know what there is not to like if we were fortunate enough to get McNamara. Personality, tremendous track record, great reputation, great coach and good role model. I doubt we could get him but come on.

If GMAC can bring the bagman with him for NIL, that is the kind of thing Siena has to take advantage of - the MAAC stinks, all of the NIL collectives are trash including Siena's current setup. Zero reason to believe Weitsman will have any interest in supporting Siena NIL. Nothing in it for him. He has shown some interest in establishing a residence in the area (Saratoga). I believe he is also close to Dave Portnoy and may have purchased a horse with him?

Aside from name recognition, how do any of you GMac supporters know he'll be any good as a HC? * Maybe his name sways a kid. Likely not. He'll need to be good in the kid's living room. We're not talking Pitino here. * Is he a good teacher? Can he develop players? Being a good player doesn't make you into a good teacher. * How do you know he's good with in-bound plays? Last 10 second plays? Is he a "foul up 3" or "let it play out" type of guy? He was a decent guard and can likely identify similar talent. What about Forwards, Centers? I really hope they don't just jump at the first thing they think the fans want. They did it with Mitch - they went for continuity. They did it with Jimmy - known and semi-proven coach. They did it with Carm - keep the roster intact and shoot for the "lifetime coach". I don't want a lifetime coach. I want a guy so good we can't keep him. I don't care what the current players want. I want the next set of players (may include some current) to respect the guy and develop throughout the season. I don't want a guy that just plays zone just because the last guy just played man. I want a guy that plays the right D at the right time. I want a fast game unless we're playing Memphis or Duke. I want the right guy. Fran wasn't a flashy name. He was a great hire. When a good coach comes in he can re-recruit the kids he wants. Man, you are tough. Time will tell.

Anyone who wouldn't be thrilled with a GMac hiring has a massive dump in their pants

Anyone who wouldn't be thrilled with a GMac hiring has a massive dump in their pants You didn't answer my questions but OK. Looks like we're going to find out. Hey, I hope he's a rock star and get a P5 job in 4 years. I would just prefer to do a full national search. GMac may turn out great but I'm concerned they're focusing on name recognition. Jimmy B's endorsement is nice but what do you expect him to say? It is no different than Fran endorsing Mitch, Jamion endorsing Carm, etc. You don't get a coaching tree legacy by not endorsing your assistants. Personally, I think the goal should be hiring a rock star and having them move on in 3-5 years. D'Arg should have a running list of candidates at all times in the event our coach is poached.

Boeheim's endorsement is certainly biased, but if you read the article that was posted on GMac it seems everyone has the same opinion. Former coaches, AAU coaches et.al..

His connection to Boeheim might be "something". What was his connection to Binghamton? Is that his base of operations? He’s from Owego near Binghamton. No clue if he had anything to do with Binghamton sports before the Syracuse fallout though. He didn't have anything to do with Binghamton before the Syracuse fallout. Not sure how he got roped in by Binghamton but I don't believe Binghamton has any real meaning to him other than it's a semi local college. I heard he will help Gmac. He's still friends with Gmac and the other coaches. He said he won't compete with Syracuse but otherwise dabbles at NIL - hence the Binghamton money (gave Symir Torrence $100k to flip to Bing).

Your questions were all answered in the article Soup replied to you with earlier. High school and AAU coaches (and Jim Hart) rave about him as a recruiter, former players rave about him as a teacher. Maybe more importantly they all say he's just a good, likeable guy. We can't possibly know how he'll be with inbounds plays or timeouts, but we couldn't know that for Murray or any other top assistant either. I get being skeptical based on recent history, but this is a home run swing by the school. To me, it shows Seifert gives a shit about this program and didn't just settle for the safe play, like a Will Brown or Matt Brady. Between pulling the trigger on firing Carm and then taking a big swing on the hire, it's hard not to get excited about the president of the school putting a clear emphasis on bringing this program back to where we know it can be.

Obviously he doesn't know Gallo is hovering in the wings and while not supported by what appears to be the majority of the northeast basketball community, he does have Yankee's support. So, I for one have to take a wait and see attitude as to who will be the "real" new Siena coach. Nothing is final until the Marist/MAAC guru pronounces it done. ;-)
