Why then isn't your Foxes in hot pursuit of him? Marist has a nice campus and close proximity to the Big Apple. It was mentioned he contacted Marist. I would be shocked if that came to pass, him coming here. If he did, I would do back flips of joy. Although, the guy Marist might be involved with has me just as happy. I stated earlier I can't mention the name. But if he is hired, you will know why I am so thrilled by the possibility. But in terms of Paulsen, he is a slam dunk hire, especially for Siena. Isn't he from the area? Brett Reed?

I stated a year or so ago I think Brett Reed is an odd guy from what I saw in a post game interview. I am sure everyone would be thrilled from Marists end if he was hired. I am not so sure about him to be honest. Obviously he has been very successful, but I don't see it happening.

All those on the "list" look very good, but Rhoades is beginning to look like a winner to me. I must say I find Rhoades very interesting. Very popular and well regarded at VCU and the A10. Everyone seems to think he would be next in line for the VCU job should Shaka leave. VCU is a fun team to watch.

I don't think Patsos would have even gotten a phone call had both Loyola and Siena been remaining in the MAAC next season. Rarely do you see a coach get hired directly from one school to another in the same league. He doesn't do it for me at all. It would be a very so-so hire that would show no daring, vision, or big picture thinking at all. Ask the average Loyola fan, and they don't appear to be overly upset at the prospect of losing him at all. That is very telling. Any of the others are potentially exciting candidates and I'd be estatic for them to be hired. Pitino is clearly the sexiest candidate - not that it guarantees he's the best one. The fact that he's ready to jump ship after just one year definitely is a strike against him because it shows he could do it to Siena too.

I still think pitino is the slam dunk hire. Toole and Rhoades would be fine although potentially riskier. Patsos would be my last choice of the four, but has reasonable attributes. In any event it looks like the admin is in tune with the fans. If any one else wants to get in on the contest now is your chance as I will be closing it tomorrow morning before the start of the business day

I like most of the possibilities, including Mike Rhoades, but 2 red flags went up when I watched the video clip about him at: www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Ip119aTjxA. He was a "Villanova fan all his life", is a "great X's and O's guy" and "in charge of VCU's half-court defense". I love his resume and energy, but some of those descriptions sound a bit too familiar...

Gorvy - Curious to know why you think Pitino is such a slam dunk. He's only 30, been coaching just one year, right? Is iut his name, what he may be able to bring because of it? Not saying I wouldn't be happy with him, but I'm not quite seeing it as a slam-dunk. I think I like the other 3 (Paulsen, Toole or Rhoades) more. Agree with somebody here that Patsos would be too safe a hire. Not sold on him doing much.

I've already stated my case-- how about you tell us why you like your choice?

Patsos is a no-brainer. Built a consistent program, won a title, won "up" games on the road, will be a homerun with fans, media, boosters (which will be absolutely critical when it comes to moving up in class and having to shake down boosters for cash) and his players do nothing but rave about him.
He knows Siena, he has never been shy about his feelings about the Siena job. He knows how important it is to the fans, area, school. Out of the list of candidates - he is the only one who knows exactly what he can do with Siena and I'm certain he's been preparing for this for quite some time.
I've listened to his coaches shows in Baltimore, watched his local TV appearances, followed him in the MAAC - he would be a homerun.
Pitino will drag a couple of low-life transfers with him, go .500 next year and Rutgers (Big 10) or Seton Hall (Big East) will hand him their job when they can Rice and Willard next season.

Pitino has worked under 4 different head coaches, including his father and Billy Donovan.
Has only 1 year of head coaching experience, but turned around a fledging program in that year.
Out of all the candidates, he'll be the best able to bring in the most talent in the shortest time and get our program back on track.

One thing I'll say about Pitino-- if he Name wasn't Pitino would we even be looking at a 30 year old coach, with one year experience and what did he go 18-14... plus 1 year at school and he's ready to jump ship?
Patsos would be OK.... but of the names remaining I am clearly rooting for is Toole.. he is a star in the making
But I'll say it again I would be fine with any of the 4 all are very good candidates

Disclaimer: this is pure speculation on my part...
The talk about Pitino may have died down because he knows he could have Siena winning the MM MAAC in about 2 years but the A-10 would be a much bigger challenge...
I would still be VERY happy to have him as Siena's next coach.
Again, just a thought on my part!
