When Elijah transferred from Notre Dame, he did so at the end of the first semester. He could not play right away as a grad transfer because of another NCAA rule that prohibited playing for two schools in the same academic year. Maybe goldsaint17 knows whether that rule is still on the books. Correct — we’d need someone who hasn’t played a game yet.

I wish we'd stop getting kids that need waivers and can't play. I'm sure Sean is a great kid on top of being a good player but we get bit more than not. How many kids do we have on scholarship who aren't playing? Considering our recent budget woes, paying for 2 years and getting 1 (or paying for 3+ and getting 0) seems like a bad idea. Are many schools doing this? If a kid gets hurt after you recruit them or whatever, that's one thing. We seem to pick up a greater than average number of kids who need to sit for whatever reason. It could just be my misperception. Sean is a good player, but he was a huge risk. And lets be honest, he was going to Iona until we ponied up with an NIL package. Now we are paying him, tying up a scholarship and not seeing any court time. Its a story thats being told too many times in Loudonville. Now we need to hold our breath that no one gets hurt, because if one of our starting guards ever goes down, its a wrap. Absolutely no reason to be in this position on Nov. 9th.

It is the scholarship still tied up on TO and the one sitting vacant that are going to burn us, especially with potentially 3 of 10 scholarship players hurt already and Coyle barely able to see the court.

Right, and there's a good chance depending on the injuries that they are the 6th and 7th men in the 2nd game of the season.

There are kids in prep schools that have graduated from HS and are eligible right away. Kids move to D1 every year- we should find a kid like we did with Roman Penn but play him the year he comes

I don’t know why Carm is afraid of transfers. You can’t let one bad situation burn you (ie Rogers). The whole thing is we don’t want to rewire them we want to wire them. Don’t get that mentality it’s a new era in college basketball. That said I’m OK with having frosh. Iona is almost all transfers which they basically had to with 12 scholarships open. Also not filling ships has to stop. With the movement these days you’re going to have a few open anyway. All 13 should be filled. And I feel for the Owens kid but his spot should have been yanked after not playing a minute.

Without Sean, unfortunately and sad to say, we have 8 Division 1 caliber players and 7 non-division 1 caliber players that essentially will offer us not much, if anything at all this year (Mosi Clayton, Sveinn, Winters, Courtney, Coyle, Carson White and Lazar). These 7 would have to compete for time at St. Rose unfortunately. I dont like saying that about Siena, but its the truth.

Another way to look at it is that even 1 game into the season we still only have 7 eligible players that have ever scored a point in a college game and 3 of them have career totals of 7, 4, and 2. Need to add another body now or at the break.

He will end up at a D2 school or head back home most likely. Lets keep our heads and hopes high, going to be a bumpy road this year at this point.

If I recall, the intent behind bringing in Tekin, Birgisson, and Gribben was that they wouldn't be impact freshmen but that they would stick around, not tie up NIL money, develop into at least role players as they aged up, and provide some continuity instead of bringing in 12 new guys every year. So I think Carm has no problem keeping Birgisson around even if he doesn't look like he will be a major contributor this year.
