Hoopdirt reporting Richard and his dad have reached out to D'arg several times in the last couple weeks. He signed a 6 years deal for 250k plus incentives per year. Siena should double that and get him here.

Have to put a huge buy out in contract for first 3 or 4 years..after than let buy out expire ..if he isn't willing to put huge buy out in..then pass on Pitino ..if he is..get him in here talk to him and find out if he can lead us into A10

I'd want him as coach even if it was for one year! Instant credibility--get the program turned around fast. Then assist with succession planning lol

And if the new A-10 is strong enough, there isn't too many jumps "up" from there.

Mitch seems like the first hire where that was a big consideration, and well... yeah. All you can do if get the highest upside candidate with the highest likelihood of making an immediate impact, and hope for the best. Bottom line Siena's revolving door will only be stopped by one thing - money. Until that's there, just get the best guy out there. Frankly, Pitino would be my first choice.

Unless I forgot how to read , the only thing that kid has been convicted of happened before Jim Baron signed him at URI. Maybe Richard believes in innocent until proven guilty.

If D'Argenio brings someone in here that could be gone in a year that would be a big mistake because if they go any recruits they bring in may go also. D'Arg needs to do his homework and get somebody in here that will commit for a few years and get Siena off to a good start in the A10.

I think Pitino is the fastest to right the ship, has connections that can't be ignored especially w/ the possibility of a move to the A10. Second choice for me is Toole. Third is Darrin Horn.

... anyone else gonna puke when they hire some mediocre candidate out of left field that none of us have even suggested?

He's not going anywhere if he doesn't have success right away and many big time programs are not going to hire a young coach like that whose name is not Brad Stevens or Shake Smart

Guys - money is important but again I point to Xavier. They pay $1M and are in the A10 and lose their coach regularly. We can't stop that. I would put a big buyout for 2 years decreasing in year 3. That said...little Ricky only has 1 year as a head coach. It locks us in just as much as him. I'd happily take pretty much anyone discussed so far. Let's remember that Fran wasn't stellar on paper and nobody will forget the "Blew it with Hewitt" article in the TU. I take it as a good sign that D'Arg is taking responsibility for this hire. He wants success and wants to make sure it doesn't get mired down in BS. Just because there is no committee doesn't mean he doesn't have a line on many good coaches. I bet he really doesn't like making "bad hires". I bet he detest getting calls for years to bag the coach. My bet is his hands have been tied in the past.
If we jump to the A10 then it means the AD is doing the right stuff. When he hires a guy let's see how it plays out. Little Ricky would get lots of press and he'd have access to his dad's tier 2 recruits. If it is Cliff Warren - he could turn out great - or not. Nobody we hire is a guarantee. That's our lot in life. Let's just enjoy the ride and the hope for optimism.

I wouldn't say Xavier loses their coach "regularly". They've had less coaches than Siena in the last 20 years. 7 head coaches in last 40 years at Xavier.
