What do you overseers think about bruce pearl? As big a crook as that's coached the last 25 years. A notch below Cal.

thanks for answering for me section 2. orlando and strickland would have great recruiting ties in NYC especially the aau teams, in myrtle beach we have a tournament at christmas time that draws some of the best high school players in the nation. and orlando and strickland are here every year. last couple of years calipari and coach k have been here also. there are also many other coaches who come to recruit players that play with the stars. have never seen a siena coach here in 4 years i have been here. howland has great talent but he is a shitty coach. if he doesnt get to the final 4 he will probably be fired at ucla. i think dixon from pitt would get that job. dixon and will brown are close friends. dixon is a west coast boy. pitt would then be open. then the coaches from butler, vcu and xavier would all be in the running there. tubby smith is in trouble at minnesota. those coaches would all be looking there as well. siena gets a lot of interest from leftovers. then it is a guessing game. sometimes you lose. tony didnt want siena to hire fran. seth greenberg would be a great get but i do not think he would leave the south. pelphrey from arkansas is also likely to be fired. he would be another great get but again he would probably not leave the south. after living down here for 4 years i would not leave the south for a stepping stone job. better jobs than siena are available down here. Recruiting is done way before your "Beach Ball Classic." The stuff you see there is just babysitting a kid they either already have a committment from, or are in his final 2 or 3 with. Top rated talents, and their teams go to these tournaments held during your season. AAU is the way it goes down now. Hundreds of kids in one facility. Easy to work, and cheaper for the mid-majors on a recruiting budget. Yeah, Pelphrey has been gone for awhile now, and Rod Strickland isn't even an assistant coah for UK, but you want him to run our program?? okay........

At the risk of Tony spanking me for being "all over the map" even though I just respond to others, most of what rdjc said has no basis in reality. Besides Pelphrey being fired 2 years ago, he's got Mack moving up after ending Xaviers long tourney streak(and Mack doesn't want to leave his Alma mater), UCLA won't fire Howland and hire his protege, although Dixon may go to USC. Minnesota is not firing Tubby and if they did, it's not a sought after job. No prayer Smart or Stevens would even look.

Back to the topic of Richard P: I'm confident that, if he came to Siena, he wouldn't leave until after 2 or 3 years of success. He would have zero credibility if he left 2 head coaching jobs after 1 year at each.
Now what I don't understand is--if it's true he'd leave FIU after only 1 year there--what is having him seeking to leave his first head coaching job after 1 season? I'm sure he's built rapport with the team and has solid recruits coming in. If he were still an assistant or a D-2 coach somewhere it would be easier to understand. But why would he leave a team he's building a reputation on, 1 that's heading for a stronger conference?

FIU not in any postseason - their season is done... if Siena really wants Pitino Jr. it's very likely it could get done this week.
I would guess RMU will lose to Kentucky so Toole will be done on Tuesday. Bucknell plays Thursday vs Butler.
Loyola plays Tuesday in the CIT.
Cliff Warren is free to talk also.
We should start hearing things very soon about interviews!

I read an article that stated John said the timetable would be similar to last time-- talk to people at the final four, decision the following week....

Don't think we need to wait until after the final four. Fran was introduced the Friday before the final four in 2005. In 2010 Fran left in late March so Siena pretty much had no choice but to wait. This should really get done by early April (1-5). We need to obviously get the hire right but the sooner the better.

No post season for FIU. If Siena and Pitino are serious... this could get wrapped up relatively soon

The next thing you guys will be pumping him for is his dad is coaching the overall #1 tourney seed. As for Warren why is he even on the list, Will Brown is a better canidate than him. They need to hire a guy who has experience and who has won recently or already rebuilt a team. My guy is Patsos.

My guy is Patsos. to his credit... he did take a team to a winning record that hadnt had a winning record in 14 years ... and did so year 1. Some of hiring a coach is going to be an ability by the powers that be to see something in a coach before someone else sees it or at least before someone else takes advantage of it. Moving up + Pitino should provide a jolt to recruiting. Obviously he can coach if he steps in to a team with a long history of losing and immediately has them winning. Or perhaps, like mitch in your eyes, its all luck. Pitino just got all the good luck and Mitch got all the bad...

I won't go into details, but there are some things their administration neglected to tell him about the program when they hired him. Suffice it to say, he's ready to walk.

The new A-10 (if Siena's move materializes) is going to be a stronger basketball conference than the new C-USA. FIU is a football school and C-USA is a football conference, so the basketball program plays second fiddle. At Siena, basketball is the centerpiece. We can offer more pay and more prestige.

Sienafan...you sound like you have inside info. Is that true or is that speculation or something you saw on the interweb?
