The big benefits of the trip are the 10 full length practices we got to use as prep and the life experience/team bonding. The games are a cool experience. Hopefully Javian’s absence gives Carm a chance to see how Tekin fares as a backup PG. We’ll see on the competition level, as it can vary widely. I really think people will be impressed with Tekin. It might take him a little longer (communication and American BBall wise) but he’s got great instincts. By the meat of the MAAC games I think people will understand just how good he’s going to be.

I wasn't necessarily thinking Tekin but the more experience the Saints get in the preseason without McCollum the better. There's just no way he's going to go 40 minutes a night the entire season. We are going to need a functioning offense when he's not on the court and a fallback plan in the worst case if he's ever injured. That's probably my biggest worry with this team that there will be absolutely no flow to the offense without McCollum out there. And my second biggest worry is shooting which also becomes even more worrisome when McCollum is not out there. So getting to play meaningless games without him could actually turn into a positive experience.

Whether it's Tekin or Platek or Jayce Johnson or whatever other options that Carm thinks he has to run the show, it's probably somewhat beneficial to figure it out now. Tekin was recruited to be the backup PG. Whether he starts or not on this trip, it's going to be an opportunity for him to play and prove to Carm whether he's good enough to eat those minutes during the season or other arrangements need to be made.

I understand that Platek is coming off an injury so we don't know where his recovery is at or how much he can give us in the near future. If he is recovered to the point where he can play significant minutes than I think we will be in great shape at the 1. McCollum and Platek eating up the vast majority of minutes at the 1, working in Tekin as the games dictate. And who's to say that some of these other new players won't surprise us with their contributions. I'm much more optimistic than I was 3 or 4 months ago.

I just watched Mike Eley's highlights again. We shouldn't ignore his obvious skills either. I'm really excited after viewing his video again!!

Haven't seen a box for Game 1, but good to see Eley get 12 points in the game.

Saw a few other D1 final scores against Stella Azurra. We appear to have done as well as everyone else:
Saint Louis (A10 title contender, some say favorite): 102-59 Drexel (CAA): 78-47 Virginia: 76-24
So, our 84-39 (even with the walk ons getting run) indicates we basically played on par with everyone else. Nice to see Eley tease that all around impact!
Next game is from a team one level above in Italy, so should be a little better test. And then Game 3 is one level above that.

Scoring 84 and holding a team under 40 in their own country without your starting PG— is always good —I don’t care who you’re playing!!

Eley looks like the real deal based on stats and a few clips I saw. Any word on how our foreign contingent performed?
We pretty much handled a bad Italian team like most US college programs so we kept up with the Jones’s😉.

Seems like as good an outcome as we could have hoped for. Biggest questions in my mind are what's really up with Javian and what's wrong with Kellier? At this point I don't expect to ever see Owens in a game for Siena. 🤕
