Jon Rothstein reports that Hampton is expected to join the CAA as of July 1 and that both Stony Brook and Monmouth are coming cbeing considered.
There are programs I would prefer to leave the MAAC, but the Hawks’ potential departure would get us back to 10 teams, avoid the scheduling byes and increase the opportunity for bringing quality opponents to the MVP Arena via home and home series.

I'm surprised they aren't looking at Albany. Would seem to make a lot more sense to offer fulltime membership to CAA football schools than adding Hampton and Monmouth.

Would hate to see Monmouth leave, personally I feel they are one of the better programs and they have a very nice arena.

rMonmouth plays football as a member of the Big South Conference, and Hampton is a full member of that league.

I don’t know for sure but I would expect so. Stony Brook already plays football in the CAA.

Monmouth is > UA basketball-wise, but UA to the CAA makes more sense to me. Maybe the CAA sees themselves as a basketball conference and not a football conference. Of course, I'm somewhat biased given UA is among my alma maters and I would like to see the level of basketball there increase from the AE quality.

Would hate to see Monmouth leave, personally I feel they are one of the better programs and they have a very nice arena. Correction, they have the nicest “gym” in the MAAC. I wouldn’t call their gym an arena. Quinnipiac has the “MAAC” nicest and only “on campus” arena. While Siena had the best arena it’s not Siena’s arena. All that said, I’d hate to lose Monmouth because their one of the better teams/programs.

I wouldn't shed any tears. Never should have invited them in the first place.

Monmouth was definitely an upgrade, just makes it easier for Iona.

Monmouth was a very good addition to the MAAC, but I was never a fan of the 11 team league. Getting back to 10 teams eliminates the need for the bye in league play and allows for 2 more OOC games that if scheduled wisely could elevate the MAAC profile/rankings.

Sounding like this might be happening. Adam Zagoria (@adamzagoria) Tweeted: Now on @njdotcom Monmouth is leaving MAAC, Big South for Colonial Athletic Association t.co/eRBQGqD6vQ

MAAC will take a bit of a hit losing one of the best programs over the last decade but getting back to 10 teams is probably worth it in the long run. As long as the league isn't dumb enough to go add two NEC teams the MAAC will be fine. This seems like a big blow to Albany. I really thought it was just a matter of time before they were CAA in all sports. Not a good sign that the CAA would rather add Monmouth and Hampton than make Albany a fulltime member.

I think it is the right move for Monmouth-they get an upgrade I think in both sports. I'll miss seeing the MAAC teams there.

so i guess the question is: does the maac add 2 more teams or just leave it at 10?
