A challenge for Siena at this point would be a win over Marist on Friday. To demand anything from administration regarding conference change is ridiculous at this point when they need to make a commitment to their stated priorities first and foremost. There could not be a worse time for all this realignment of conferences to be going down. I hope whoever is in charge of looking at adding the new members could look past this debacle. I also hope they see a real commitment from the administration, who should walk the walk and not just talk the talk. We'll know full well in 30 days or so....................

I tell you this much...Fairfield better not get in ! And then Siena is left in the MAAC. The Siena fanbase would loose faith in the program BIG TIME

I agree, however I don't think win over Marist, will change anything. Tuesday will end this era, then the search and hire will give a barometer of the commitment to a higher conference. At the very lease, if there is no higher conference on the horizon, we have to continue to chant the mantra that this fan base will NOT tolerate, at the prices being charged, mediocrity (and that would be an improvement from this year) in the MAAC.

I don't think a win will make 1 iota of a difference. I was referring to the article why Butler switched conferences " They needed a challenge". So many things are in turmoil now.......... Awful, just awful timing.

Actually the timing is pretty good. We have recent success in the NCAA tournament (more success than other programs mentioned), we have a top 100 attendance, We'll have a new coach which demonstrates promise and commitment to success, and we have enough fans that are riled up to help push the admin and its consultant to do something to build a new "revenue stream" as they put it. It doesn't hurt that we continue to be mentioned by prominent sports personalities (not our sarcastic local guys) along the way.

Money is the driving force in REALIGNMENT.
So ..
1. Can Siena make more money in the A10 ?
2. Can the A10 make money in Capital District ? Can they get more exposure ?
3. Travel budgets are major factor with schools- so is Siena near other A10 schools ? is it mutually beneficial ?
I think it works ;D

That's why Sydney Johnson left Princeton and why he signed a long extension last summer. He has to believe to leave his Alma mater and come to the MAAC.

I believe the A10 would not hold this 3-year downcycle against us. Every team in the A10 goes through this...they aren't the BE or ACC. Heck - anyone check Wake Forest lately?
That said I would think Siena and Fairfield are both looking to scoot. We're the only 2 that have committed to play in something other than a HS gym. They haven't had the recent success we've had nor the long-term resume.
My bet is that if we've been tossed around as a C7 candidate then we should be more than a decent candidate for the A10. Boy would I love the C7 thought :-)

Problem Fairfield has is… does anyone care? Their attendance isn’t that good, and they don’t get much media coverage in their own backyard. So while FF might want the A10- I just don’t see it. In fact if the a10 goes to 12—I have to believe Siena and George Mason are shoe ins
And yes the A10 knows Siena has been a good program, since 1999 we have more NCAA appearances than Fordham , LaSalle, Duquesne , Bonaventure , URI, Umass combined , we get more fans and media coverage than most of the remaining A10 teams. Our market is about the same size as Richmond’s

Our market is about the same size as Richmond’s Tony, you are right about the fan support. I think that helps Siena over Fairfield for sure. I also think Siena carries more cache than Fairfield throughout the East. However, the fact that Siena has more NCAA tournament appearances than St. Bonaventure, URI, La Salle etc....is irrelevant because they have competed in a much tougher league than Siena. I don't even think that comes into the equation to A-10 administrators. All this being said, the debate on the A-10 board and people I have talked to affiliated with A-10 all agree the list of viable candidates is very small. Not a lot of good program left to pluck for the A-10. It appears only George Mason, Siena, Davidson, and to a lesser degree Charleston get favorable mention from most. Some Midwest schools that would open large markets like Cleveland and Detroit get mentioned but most seem to hate that idea. In the end it appears George Mason and Siena would most likely get invites if it were up to fans and coaches. The question is how many would be invited? If it were me I would only add Mason and Siena at most. If/when Umass leaves you can bet every last dime a Boston school will get that spot (Northeastern or BU).

All you need to know about Fairfield- 3 NCAA trips (none since 1997 as a 16 seed). And the program wrecker has two of their NCAA trips.
First choice will be George Mason... and we'll be #2 I would think. If they invite us I would have to believe the Siena admin will take it. It's time to ditch the MAAC!
This is a league that would be one of the better non-BCS leagues in the country:
North -
Siena St. Joe's UMass Rhode Island Fordham St. Bonaventure
South -
George Mason Richmond VCU George Washington LaSalle Duquense
