Hired 2 assistants so far. A kid named Stanley that was a video guy for him at one point i think, and a 70 year old recruiter Tom Abatemarco. Was with Jimmy V at Iona in the 70's, and followed him to NC State. Think for his last job, he was on the bench at FGCU when we played them recently. Was a head coach at Drake and his team refused to practice or play for him in a big scandal, so he should fit right in at Iona.

Pitino says he has 6-7 spots to fill, we have 2 (and none have officially opened yet). We have two max- we are defending MAAC champions and return 4 starters, we have an embarrassment of talent for MAAC level program. The staff can afford to be extremely "picky" Plus we also have the fact "officially" we have no openings. I'm quite sure the staff is sensitive to that, and timing has to be right. The Portal is up to almost 400 kids and more being added every day. Given what we have coming back, our facilities I'm quite sure we will be attractive destination for the "right" kid. Anyone we add has to make sense from a talent, needs and personality standpoint. Cant compare to Iona, who is coming off a 7th place finish, early exit from MAAC tournament and lose their two best players. So of course Iona is desperate for talent and has 5 to 7 openings Don't kid yourself, barring a devastating blow by the NCAA Pitino will have the Iowna Gals in contention for the title next year and Siena fighting for its championship life each year after that for as long as he is at the helm in Quarantine USA. Don't get me wrong, I expect Carm and Co. to look forward to and rise to the challenge. As has already been discussed it should help the league's profile/ranking as well.

Like him or not, Pitino will have Iona immediately competitive for the MAAC title next year. Some coaches can do that; don't underestimate him as a recruiter or in-game coach. Iona and Siena will be the 2 marquee MAAC programs for as long as Pitino stays around.
I'm sure Iona will play many more games at MSG than in the recent past. Who knows, maybe he'll even get them out of the high school gym and into an on-campus arena.

I think the state's new incarceration rules made Pitino's decision and easy one....only problem now is the lack of co-eds in New Rochelle to serve as "hostesses" for his "recruits"...

Has anyone mentioned the name Robert LaPenta in connection with Iona's hiring of Rick Pitino?

Has anyone mentioned the name Robert LaPenta in connection with Iona's hiring of Rick Pitino? He’s partners with Pitino in some horses I think? He’s a big Iona booster that probably was key in getting RP there.

He was mentioned in all the articles in the Post Thanks. Never read the Post, so didn't see any of that. Figured his name has come up before, but if not, wanted to mention him as the prime link to Mr. Pitino ending up where he has. Wonder if he'll be scheduling Minnesota in MSG anytime soon?

Iona - Siena scheduled for last game of the regular season both tied for 1st place going in - up attendance for that one 12000 fans in the house. There are some hot takes here. Our attendance getting 5-7k in albany by for a d1 cbb game in THIS league is a minor miracle. Such a tribute to our fans. Go look at mid major attendance, even Notre dame's at times. Some mids are 3 digits as a few in our league. 12k will NEVER happen for iona. Yes, get some interesting opponents and we might sniff 9-10k any given night. The 12k thing minus ualbany and cuse is a dream wo a legit league that we missed the boat on, the a10. We are flying high right now after having a monumental season at home, but this team, school, and fanbase should never take 7k for granted. Just go and look at the attendance in our league with 2,500 as a peak in a few arenas. Get real ....

That = wishes and expectations. My point is we should never take for granted our attendance. it is astounding given this league.
