Could it be Pitino is using Iona to force the NCAA’s hand to hand down the punishment sooner (he’s back coaching amid allegations of wrongdoing - the NCAA may take swifter action)? As was said, if he’s cleared that opens a lot of jobs in the Power Conferences immediately. If he is not cleared then he may be able to coach again at a major school after serving the penalty. I really hope this is not a coordinated effort between Iona and Pitino to get him back coaching by forcing the NCAA to move quickly on the punishment. It was reported that Pitino has high power friends at Iona. Maybe Pitino was get a punishment, step down, and Cluess is back in the driver seat. Iona goes on like nothing happened. They get exposure and Pitino to start recruiting for them. However, the NCAA could slap Iona with a punishment for hiring Pitino. If they do that it would be a black eye for the conference and the conference rating may tank further. Cluess is done.

What about forgiveness and second chances? All this moral high horse stuff is nonsense. Pitino doesn’t have to cheat to win at Iona, get a grip folks. He can out recruit on name only. We’re lucky to have him in the conference. Deal with it. I hope Carm can beat him straight up consistently. Wanna make a bigger name for Siena, here’s the chance. I'm fine with it. Is Pitino going to make them better than they were with Cluess? Maybe but that's a very high bar. The difference is now Siena has an answer- a quality hard working coaching staff and solid roster which will only get better. Siena and Iona usually aren't good at the same time. Bring it on!! Let's go Saints!!!

Rick isn't staying in New Ro for any extended period. He just needs to get the stink off himself and off he goes. Any superstars that sign with him (and there will be a few) will bolt on his exit. I'd still rather be in our situation.

In the NCAA tournament games, you know regular season and tournament then the NCAA. Also I’ll say this again so you understand. I don’t care who Iona hires and what their justification may be.

If these numbers are true, that's one big buyout.

How? What school would pay that buyout? If it drops by two million for each year he stays, and if he stays four years and leaves, the buyout would be two million dollars. Maybe some school would pay that, but he'd be what, seventy-one or two? Who would want him at that point? Not sure he's worth the buyout amount now, and darn sure he wouldn't be worth it in four or five years.

i just have a nagging feeling this is his last stop-wants to have genuine fun rather than a pressure situation like power conference...especially at 67 making nearly 1m. hasn't he made enough money already? plus he always spoke about how he likes the small catholic school aspect, and wouldn't it be great for his ego to build iona in to top power in east? just my thought.

The elephant in the room is NCAA-- Pitino will almost certainly gets sanctioned- ( he is a repeat offender) I know URI looked into this thoroughly last year and was afraid he'd get a 3 to 5 year show cause. at very least he will face some sort of suspension. Something may have changed or Iona just decided to roll dice and hope its basically a slap on wrist. And do not expect Louisville to go to bat for him, because they wont. So this is far and I mean far from a done deal . We may have better idea once Louisville get the NOA from NCAA probably sometime in next month or two
