Updated look at Player Efficiency Rating: Burns - 27.7 Pickett - 23.1 Camper - 19.4 Young - 16.5 Friday - 14.8 Carey - 12.6 Harris - 9.7 Sutherland - 7.4 King - 6.5 Hein - 4.5 Crazy that Young and Friday are ahead of Carey. And yes Young/Friday play much less than Don obviously. Don just has too many turnovers and is not shooting it well. If we're going to win the MAAC (regular and postseason) we need Don to be more efficient. PER is always going to be a little biased in favor of the big guys but pretty clear that Young should be getting more time and it might be worth experimenting with a two big lineup on occasion to see if it could work. A lineup of Pickett, Carey, Camper, Burns, and Young/Friday would certainly create size mismatches and would still keep our top 4 in 3 point shooting percentage on the court. Even if instead of two bigs you have Harris or Sutherland in there it creates some options for when both the backup guards are struggling like last night. Right now Hein and King and even Carey are seeing too many minutes cause we aren't sprinkling in some bigger lineups.

I don't have a ton of confidence in ball security when Hein and King are out there anyways. I'm not saying it is going to be the answer, just would like to see them try it out some as an option. We don't need to get 60 minutes a game out of Hein, King, and Carey when Pickett is playing 38. Next year we can go 3 guard all the time and it will be great, this year the 3rd guard is the weak link of the team.

Mix it up, throw in some zone D once in a while.

When King and Hein entered the game in the 2nd half it was almost the beginning of the end for the Saints along with Carm slowing down the game once again.Harris has been improving his defense and with his shot blocking ability should be playing more crunch-time minutes; He should also be allowed to hit the boards on offense instead of staying out in the perimeter when his game is clearly around the basket.jmo GO SAINTS!!

Just read the Iona board - they are all brimming with confidence, sure that if the teams meet a third time that the Gaels will prevail. What they don't know is that Siena played one of the worst halves of the season in the second half yesterday and still survived. If Siena brings it, they can once again dominate this Gaels team.
And- having said that, the first half was outstanding basketball and showed what this Siena team can do vs. Iona - up by 12 points at the break!!!!!!!!!!

And we played with zero energy in the first half, and brought energy in the second. See how this works, we're both going to look at things from our own perspective. See you in AC.

The refs got involved playing even up bullshit. Then Friday decides hes going all NBA 2k with the trash talking. the two BAD calls by the refs and Friday's technical brought Iona back to life. They were about to fold just before these incidents. You could see it in the way they carried themselves. Friday should shut his hole. Hes DAMN lucky to be even on the court and not paying tuition. A couple of ok plays over two games doesnt erase the horrific performances of the rest of his career. And as someone else noted... what the hell was up with refs protecting Agee? Dude shouldve fouled out twice. The lineup of King Hein AND Carey was HIGHLY questionable. One is a freshman, the other a 5th year limited role player and the third a turnover machine with some bad defensive lapses. I get the ball control they were looking for from playing King and Hein... but King Hein Carey Camper and Friday.... is not a lineup to win championships this year.

Carey can be a good defender when he gives it full attention. Unfortunately, he is lackadaisical too often on D. I posted in the past that too often he tries to make the unbelievable assist pass which turns into a turnover. Also, in the past I posted that early on he and Jalen weren't cohesive. They are considerably better in more recent games.

However, this has also hurt Carey's scoring confidence I think because he prefers to make things happen off the bounce. I still think Pickett should try to find a way to get Carey more open looks but the problem is often that Carey is often more closely guarded at the 3 pt line than others are...for good reason. As a result, Camper, Harris, etc.. end up getting a few more looks.

They are considerably better in more recent games. Carey has been playing much better on defense since the benching during the second half against Canisius where he clearly got the message that his role on the team was going to change. The only problem during the stretch since has been the shooting. His FG%/3PT%/FT% for the first 15 games was .393/.372/.848, the last 9 games it has been .318/.324/.750. His assist to turnover was a terrible 2.5/2.9 for the first 15 games but has been a much more manageable 2.0/1.4 since. His steals per game are also up over that period (1.07 to 1.22) despite averaging a little over 4 minutes less per game. He's just not shooting well which is surprising since he is shooting less so you would think his shot selection would be better which would increase the percentages. He just needs to keep doing what he's doing and hopefully he finds that rhythm in his shot again.
