So I drilled down from 4guysinblazers twitter to Malik's and watched a pinned video of him from his senior year talking about him throwing up a string of triple doubles. He sounds like a guy who could go get you 20, 10, & 10. However, he also sounds like a pretty cocky kid though, but yet a conscious and willing distributor on the court. Hopefully, he wouldn't cause any issue. If Penn was aggressive and created more for others he could be that guy too. We know he can score and rebound when he wants to. It seems to me that if Jimmy gets Malik and Welch to go with Penn and Horn at the very least...that could be a potentially dominant backcourt in this league...if these guys do what they sound like they do on paper. Welch averaged about 3.5 apg in the stats on maxpreps. There were no turnover stats but given those assists stats you have to figure he's a better passer than Nico every was. Talent could override even Jimmy next year with these 2 guys especially. With growth from Penn and Horn over the summer and these guys potential natural all-around talent, it could go pretty well. I really like the potential here. Tariq may be a better defending/smoother version of Shivers. He's good and could certainly help but these other 2 seem like they could potentially redefine (with Penn and Horn) the Siena backcourt into the best we've seen since Fran. Penn, Malik, Welch, and Johnson could all make defensive plays and get steals...while Horn goes out there is able to be that Ryan Oliver+ and just score and be a calming 6th man type. And, on paper, they'd all take ok care of the ball. It could put them right up there (or even higher because of rebounding and D)with the backcourts of Quinny, Iona, and Canisius. I'm really anxious to see if these kids commit. It would be, by far, Jimmy's biggest coaching coup since it was decided that Wright and Long would follow him from Loyola. JP needs these guys to commit pronto, the longer it goes without getting a verbal is a death spiral for him...........plus, he still needs another athletic 4/5 type player that is better than Friday-Fisher-Prince, if 2 more kids leave other than Degnan & Smithen, he has room to upgrade in that spot and then fill 1 more with a versatile 2/3 type wing.............. Yeah, if he can lock up Welch asap..I'd think that maybe Malik could see the potential and might follow. Once those 2 are on board, then you can maybe sell that something good could be in store for the future and perhaps even more good news follows. I think these 2 guys are the KEY. This team can't rely on Penn alone. He needs to either be pushed to that next level or allowed to continue be what he currently is (which is still good) but stay more in the background as a 3rd or 4th option. Your primary PG can't get just 3 apg.

I agree with what your saying and i think Penn's asst would go up with a different offense. That group in sets with pick and roll drive and kicks. You could realistically be looking at a team with 3guys average 4+ asst a game.Ooh my gosh stop it KK please don't wake me up from this dream pleaseš“.To a nightmare of the flex#2

Iād like to be optimistic we need the likes of Welch badly but....
Welch appears to have higher offers and might have issues qualifying. If he does qualify I would expect him move up in conference class. If he commits thereās also a chance he doesnāt qualify. Add Patsos seldom lands any player when competitors are involved and it has to be widely known he has one foot out the door. This doesnāt give me very much confidence that we will improve our lot. In fact I suspect we get more kids with little to no interest that are low major level gets.

Yes, I know...there are still a lot of 'ifs'. But...Welch is coming on official visit to us..tomorrow. And Malik has said he's going to visit this month too. Jimmy has a much better rate of landing guys who actually visit than when they don't...especially when Becker isn't involved. And he's certainly putting in the fullcourt press on these guys.

And, as per his own words, Siena was the first to offer Tariq as well and the staff has built a long term relationship. It's not like JMU is on some other great level.
Regarding Welch and Malik, facilities wise, I have to think we look real good compared to teams like Niagara/Canisius at least.
At Canisius, Malik wouldn't even be the only PG named Malik on the team. And Malik Johnson is having a pretty good year.

Chatman is probably a 3/4 rather than a 4/5 but I would take him in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, I think he will go Power Five.

A lot of long time supporters have just been beaten down....I hope Siena realizes that without major changes a lot of people are just going to completely bail out.

Has Johnson visited JMU yet thing with there roster they have 5-6 guys same size as him. Also those players are freshman and sophomore so he's going in competing for minutes with multiple players.Compared to here competing with maybe 1-2players.Plus our facilities and amount of press you get here JMU is a football power and still struggling with new coach.Only edge i see is the proximity to home for him.JMO

So far with all our ārecruiting advantagesā (facilities draw playing time etc....) which havenāt changed Patsos has done next to nothing over his tenure at Siena. Why do you think thatāll be changing anytime soon?

Just being optimistic it takes to much energy thinking negative all the time.I understand what your saying and i agree with some of your opinions.I myself have plenty of doubts but just hoping that some real added pressure things will change. But shouldn't have gotten to this point either.Hope for the best expect the expected.
