I really liked Fran. A lot. But please keep in mind that he had the best starting talent the program has ever known. Today's team is very talented, and has some depth, but the talent is not on a par with Fran's teams. Yes, Fran did recruit those guys, but it's not as if they were slam dunk stars that he knew would be studs. There is some luck involved in recruiting. I remain convinced that this team, with proper coaching, should be NCAA or NIT bound. I believe that any one of our former successful coaches could take them there. I liked him too. His first feat was to develop Lanier's leftovers into a competitive team - year 1 and instill some pride back in program I agree his recruits were uncut diamonds in the rough who turned out to be the best starting talent -year 2. Granted, there was luck in recruiting, but there was also development and always a plan to play to their strengths and exploit the opponent's weaknesses. To me, that is the difference.

Sick and tired hearing about Saint Fran. Go root for Iowa people! A bit testy over Fran are we? Let's see you joined April 2013 when So-So Jimbo was hired, user name(s) reference the Greatful Dead album Mars Hotel and Dead song (title) Mr Charlie (also fathers name), our beloved coach is a big Dead fan. Hum! Are you So-So Jimbo? 🤔😎🤔

You may be right that they were the most talented Siena team ever. What we can sure of is that he and Hewitt recruited the type of players that would best fit their systems and continually coached to put each player in a position to succeed. Same can not be said of Beyer, Lanier, PW and Pat-so-so

Right on cue, Fran gets T'd up on national TV lol. His Iowa team this year, they're...they're not good. Its tolerable when you win though...If Jimmy was winning then everything else would be overlooked.

I loved his tenure at Siena and was completely bummed out when he left but if we're going to be fair, his post season tenure at Siena was much more successful then that at Iowa. In 6 years at Iowa, he was seeded 7th twice and didn't advance past the round of 32, which based on his seeding he should have. He has the same number of NCAA wins with Siena as Iowa and is being paid 2 million a year. He will and should be considered Saint Fran at Siena but I'm not sure that's how Iowa fans see him.

Iowa might not have any wins better than Siena. Savannah St, Kennesaw St, and Texas Rio Grande Valley vs Cornell and Arkansas Pine Bluff, yuck.
