Iowa won't go 8-10 in the Big 10.. They went 8-10 last year in the Big 10 last year and they're a better team this year.

Iowa still has 5 games left with Penn State Nebraska and Northwestern. the rest of the B10 is brutal.. Fran only needs 4 wins against them to finish 10-8 in B10...and lets not forget Fran's teams always get better as season progresses. With his non conf record Iowa would be a lock to make NCAA. While its no lock Fran finishes with winning record in B10.. his team is better than last years - I like his chances

While its no lock Fran finishes with winning record in B10.. his team is better than last years - I like his chances Iowa is better than last year, but to date they have 1 Big Ten win. If they win 4 of five against the bottomfeeders, that is 5 total wins. They have to do a lot more than that to get to 10-8, i.e., win most of their home games and steal some on the road. They could do it and if they do that horrendous OOC strength of schedule will not help their NCAA cause. Remember the Syracuse team a few years ago that were denied based on their OOC. I hope Iowa does well, but as you say 10-8 is not a lock and I think that even at 9-9 the OOC strength of schedule would not help them in the NCAA selection process but the overall strength of the Big 10 will help. I hope they make it but I'm not sure 10-8 is a good bet at this stage. Bottomline definitely a post season team.

Iowa is better than last year, but to date they have 1 Big Ten win. At home to #1 Indiana - last possession game essentially. Didn't pull it out. They got hammered at #2 Michigan - not a great effort after playing well the first 18 minutes. And the freshman PG - Gesel - choked away a win against #22 Michigan State. They just buried Northwestern on the road. They're a game behind where they should be. They're a good team, still young in key spots, but they're good.

All of that is accurate, but that still looks like 9-9 or maybe 10-8 is the best that can be hoped for in the Big Ten this year.

They are at least a lock for the NIT with a 8-10 or even 7-9, which they will easily achieve.

Joe Lunardi's bracket list this week of "The First Four Out", there was Fran with Iowa. My interest in the dance would go way up with Fran and Iowa in there.

They buried Northwestern, who lost their best player for the year. Penn State also lost their best player for the year. The rest of the conference is as good or better than Iowa.

Iowa also has one of the weakest schedules in the Big 10, playing Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, and Illinois only once each. This may help their record but hurts RPI and SOS.

It is still better than Iowa has achieved recently so Fran is doing well. 8-10 and an NIT is great for Iowa this year as well.

The last four out is no doubt related to the OOC schedule, but Fran did what he needed to do, he needed Ws this year, not an NCAA bid. If he gets the latter it is gravy.

Steady progress over the three years Fran has been there. The future looks bright, with great freshmen gaining experience this year. I look for Iowa to move into at least middle of the Big 10 next year, possibly 4th or 5th. And he's filling the arena with excited fans.
