Reread your post, you don't seem to understand what you said. You called one side obstructionists. Is that the side you want to do the compromising? Again I want both sides to compromise.

If you guys can't see that the people who are demanding the country lean left are non contributors and ideologues you are blind. Put people to work, lower taxes and stop the Robin Hood approach and things will work out. Compromise is only spoken when the left is getting its way, it's not even considered if the left had to move to right.
I guess if you guys who feel that you are more righteous because you back the libs now will be crying the blues shortly from one of 2 reasons. You will realize this path is unaffordable or the conservatives will win the White House. Either way your discomfort level will be on the rise shortly.

I'll use this to get back to my original point and questions. Racer - What makes you feel a conservative can win the WH in'16? Please frame it in the context of who you might think could do that? (I can't even say who might be the front runner now.) And what do you think their agenda and methods would be to unite the right and grab enough voters in the center to pull off a victory? I know what you don't like about the left so let me know what you think a challenger needs to do and who best could do that.

That seems to be an area for compromise.

I believe in much of what you say but I don't think we are in for a disaster to any larger scale than what we have seen over the past decade--- with the possible exception of a disaster fueled by the environment.

Right now the media is a minefield any politician. Both on the left and the right. And as soon as someone is classed as a moderate ..all hell beaks loose!! That's why nothing gets done in Washington! It's pathetic !
And historically it was never like this. Ronald Reagan was always making deals with democrats like Tip O'Neill. And Privately, O'Neill and Reagan were always on cordial terms, or as Reagan himself put it in his memoirs, they were friends "after 6PM".

Not sure what you mean. What do you mean by 'all hell breaks loose' and give me an example of a moderate politician who suffered that?

Your joking right? How many times have we seen tea party slap down a moderate Republican or proposal or left wing nut like Obama, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi or Debbie Wasserman Schultz slap down a moderate democrat or proposal! Tons of times! If that was not the case..deals would be getting done!

But that greed to a certain extent is putting bread on the table for about 50% of the US population. Picketty suggests an 80% tax on those making over 500k and you are going to take that reading to heart? If you don't already I suggest you start a business and pay everyone the same wage from the janitor to the rainmaker. Over time there will be no educated, motivated or creative people. Just a bunch of janitors...........

The belief that we need to use greed to motivate is pathetic Sent from my SCH-I605 using proboards Greed is a motivator though. Desiring a better future for yourself and your family is greedy in a way, without that greed there is no motivation to expand your knowledge, to work harder and improve your position. I know its much more difficult now than in the past but as soon as there is that light bulb moment when one realizes sitting on your ass and waiting for a handout provides even less of a chance for getting ahead, most should pick the greedy route. I'm not saying that some are not deserving of help but there are a lot of just plain lazy folks out there who are not doing a thing to add to the overall benefit of themselves or the country. For the system to work with all these handouts everyone should contribute to the whole before its divided. We have a huge mess on our hands that I don't believe will be fixed by throwing our hard earned money at. Its time to start weaning from the government instead of bringing more to the table. Call me heartless and greedy, so be it. Oh and before I'm put on the spot for the magical solution I don't have one. But I would sure as heck start with at least a 2% reduction in all government spending across the board in year one with further cuts going forward. I guess everyone should feel the pain.

It's all relative. Money is absolutely a motivator. You want to call it greed, that's fine. In some cases it is - no doubt the Bernie Madoffs of the world obviously fall into that camp, but I don't think we can pin that on all rich people.
How many of us do not want to work harder, smarter, etc to get to that next step, for ourselves (bigger house, better vacations), our family (even if to leave a legacy), etc? It's easy to call it greed when it's somebody who has more than we do. Don't you think that many of us here are looked upon as greedy by some who make considerably less than us?. It's can be a relative and inaccurate term. I also think that a competitive spirit comes into play. Another million/billion or two may not mean a whole lot for somebody but how do some 'adults' (esp men) who used to compete (athletically, academically, etc) win in life? The adult version (although an immature thought process) to do that is to increase their income. This is all an interesting discussion/debate.
Greed aside, if you take a greater percentage of somebody's income whereby they end up netting the same as somebody who doesn't gross as much, then yes, I do think that will take away some motivation. Why should I work harder if I still end up taking the same amount home if I don't gross as much?

When did making a ton a money become a bad thing or a greed thing ?!
Example: If your a medical doctor or lawyer your spending at least 300k to 500k for an education ! And they have very right to making whatever money they can in the private sector ! Would u say no?! Not to mention most successful private sector doctors, lawyers or business executives are taxed at least 45%!
And FYI: Bernie Madoff’s was a democrat- he donated $238,200 to democrats. Including Sens. Frank Lautenberg , Hillary Clinton & , and Ron Wyden !
