U73...you make some good points but historically the MAAC has been the lower of the 2 conferences every year. That's with comings/goings in both leagues. The MAAC isn't focused on hoop - the A10 is. In my mind that's the diff. Schools like Canisius draw more fans for hockey. None of the A10 schools are in that boat I don't think.

The A-10 has been and probably will be ahead of the MAAC, at least in the near future. My only point was it's not as clear a choice now as some are making it seem. I just think it makes more sense for us to discuss every option, especially if some of the "powers" of the college or league read this board. Let them know the fan base is informed and has opinions about the future. I weighed going to the watered down A-10 against remaining in the MAAC, if the MAAC improves. There are also scenarios for the Big East, CAA , or maybe others. I was curious if I'm the only one seeing that.

I think many of us are focused on the a10 because that is where the rumors have us heading to by the media. When somebody raised the possibility of the new big east we discussed that too . From a fan I standpoint the a10 is a better option than the maac. The admin has to decide whether it wants to make the jump in commitment.

I think for many the reputation of the A-10 is what they are going on. The facts say the marquee programs are gone or will be gone. As someone just stated in another thread, Conference USA has been decimated by realignment and the A-10 is heading in the same direction. Is the MAAC better? No, not at all. Could they be close enough to make the move pointless? Yes. In certain circumstances.

I hear you Upstate .. but I’m not sure you realize how bad the MAAC is attendance wise- nobdy cares- most of these teams charge 5 bucks a ticket and students are free and they still can’t get any interest ( or revenue)
Canisius 1625 Fairfield 2165 Iona 2033 Loyola (Md.) 1421 Manhattan 1682 Marist 1328 Niagara 1655 Rider 1489 Saint Peter's 1086 Siena 6346
Other than Siena very compact group between basically 1 and 2K in attendance.. all have about the same budget
Now lets look at A10( or what teams might be left)
Duquesne 3476 Fordham 2337 George Washington 2423 La Salle 2985 Massachusetts 5171 Rhode Island 4250 Richmond 5335 Saint Joseph's 4451 St. Bonaventure 3962 VCU 7693 George Mason 4500 Davidson 3941
Now all these teams have actual fans, seems to me Siena's 6346 fits in with this group much better than MAAC-- I could go into budget numbers but once again Siena's numbers will fit in better with A10 than MAAC -- Siena's budget will go over 3 million in next two years. A10 has revenue sharing of NCAA monies( the real big stumbling block in MAAC)Why shoiuld st Peters get as much revenue as Siena when Siena wins a NCAA game when Siena spends twice as much as SPC? And not to pick on SPC just using them as example It would be nice to hope MAAC changes, but the MAAC has no interest in change, we could have had Hofstra - Northeastern and Drexel--- C'mon in Boston LI and Philly.. should be perfect right.... nope MAAC didn't want those programs ( well Siena and FF did) because their budgets were between 2 and 2.5 million ( similar to Siena and FF ) The MAAC is all about socialism and cost containment. The MAAC was a great conference for Siena for a long time- but Siena's interests and the MAAC are no longer the same. The sooner Siena gets out the MAAC the better for all concerned

...and as bad as the MAAC attendance numbers are, many (e.g., Rider, St. Peter's) are dramatically inflated.

I think Tony's point is well supported. For the sake of argument, if we assume the a10 is depleted of the powerhouses, the remaining teams, still have resources to make them more successful than the remaining Maac teams. If the new costs versus new revenues is at minimum, a wash, the move should be made.
