JP waited too long to go to the zone in the 2nd half. Brown obviously told his kids at halftime if they shot outside of 3 ft, they were coming out. EVERYTHING was AT the rim. They were in the bonus shooting FT's, before the 10 min mark. Then the zone bothered them for awhile, and we got back in it. Shot selection , more than tired legs, by the Saints in the 2nd half was awful, and that's to be expected by a young team that squanders a 16 pt lead and finds itself down late in the game. It was a 2-4 pt game really. Can't get beat at the FT like that and win games. Just the first game of lessons for this talented, but ultra young group. I'm already onto the next one. Just learn, and improve. a couple of fantasy thoughts here by a certain UA poster, it is comical.....................UA did not wear Siena down, just a better experienced Danes team made the shots down the stretch and more importantly executed with patience after they got down big, that is a sign of a veteran group along with Brown telling them to stay the course.................as mentioned Siena did rush shots and the selection was very poor at times, but in many ways that is what you get with young players, they were overly aggressive at times when they didn't need to be, we have to live with that and that is ok...........defensively for UA, there was no dominating performance to point to for poor shooting pct, Siena had shots a plenty just not good shot selection in general..................lastly, this was not a double digit game as he would want to thump his chest on, with 73 seconds left it was a two possession game.......................great effort by the young players overall, in a big time atmosphere of playing in front of 11K fans, none of them had "deer in headlights" look.....this first class by Patsos is going to be terrific, and they need mucho playing time to get comfortable in the college game..............Wright was solid and never panicked, Long was showing a variety of skills we haven't seen at his size, White appeared to be a reincarnation of Scoop Jordan (and not just in looks), JO had to bail out others with help D that got him into foul trouble, Wolfe needed to get more minutes (that one is on JP)...............no moral victories and the post game mood after the game reflected a group that although they played hard/well for most of it, felt deflated & disappointed.............growing pains for sure, going to be a wild ride watching this team develop!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Poole was recruited by Fran. White, Wright, and Long were recruited by Patsos. Those were the 4 best players for Siena last night. To say the Mitch era was a disaster is an understatement. If someone tried to do worse they would have had a tough time. That being said, I was not impressed by Patsos coaching job in the second half, the offense looked way too much like Mitch 2.0. Also, the best thing for Albany in this series is giving the Siena season ticket holders the prime seats, they completely suck the energy out of the building, would think it was church rather than a D1 basketball game based on their demeanor.

Poole was recruited by Fran.. Not true.....unless Poole commited during his junior year of HS. Which is possible, but I'd be surprised if Fran offered a HS kid before his junior year.....

As shown.. 100% true. This does fly in the face of those who said fran left nothing. Poole, rossiter, jackson, OD, basabe, burdine who would've done fine in frans system, and bryon Allen. Fran wouldve had another good year and run of three or four more had he stayed.

I disagree with a previous comment about JP's quick substitutions. JP would pull a kid who made a mistake or missed an assignment and then he or an assistant would coach/teach the player and get them back in. I saw more coaching going on in that one game than I had in the previous three. This bodes very well for our future.
One concern I have is that it is going to very difficlut to play any form of pressing man to man this year with what was clearly reinforced Friday against an AE team - instead of us being able to go 10 deep, we really only have the freshman and one or two other players who can play man to man defense against D-1 players. It is painfully obvious that outside of the freshman, we might have trouble beating St. Rose.
This will defintiely be a re-building year (altho it looks like an exciting one!), but with JP, the freshaman base and hopefully several scholarhips opening up, the future should be much better than our recent past and the present. As for "forcing players out", those players also want to fulfill their dream of playing college ball, so it is better for them to be able to find a school at an appropriate level where they can compete instead of sitting the bench for four years at a level at which they cannot compete.

Excellent post. Many don't recognize that the returning talent level is flat out poor.. and a guy like Poole, a complimentary player, is being asked to be the star. As the youth gain experience I see roles shifting considerably. Still need two up recruits in the next class

Sometimes I wonder about you guys..Poole is no Ubiles ( a player some of you complained about) but he is a better scorer than Owen, a better shooter than Owen- a better rebounder and a better passer..am I missing anything? Explain what is arguable?

Remember people..according to pre-season coaches poll Albany is expected one of the top 3 teams in the AE! Being this Siena team is soo young..I think there is a lot of positives you can take away from the game. Sure there were mistakes- but this coaching staff is very intelligent and disciplined. I fully expect the likes of Bisping, Oliver and Hymes to do better in the next 3 games. If they don't.. they will be sitting.END OF STORY. But you have to give the team TIME!
