@marksingelais: Siena G Evan Hymes on Jimmy Patsos: "He’s real intense, which is what we need. We haven’t had that my first two years here."

@marksingelais: Siena G Evan Hymes on Jimmy Patsos: "He’s real intense, which is what we need. We haven’t had that my first two years here." I expected Hymes to react positively to Patsos' demeanor. How many times would Siena make a little comeback run, and as the team got back on D, Hymes would implore, nay beg the crowd to get into it, waving his arms to get the crowd going. He seems to crave the intensity of the moment, and finally has a head coach that is wired like that, too.

How many times was Hymes beaten when attempting to defend. You can't be his size playing 35 mins a game averaging less than a steal per game. Especially in a lower level conference

Especially in a lower level conference I don't disagree with that assessment at all. I also expect him to play closer to 25 MPG this season, which will allow him to capitalize on his speed without having to reserve energy. His defense is not a strong suit, but his enthusiasm and experience are.

Maybe he should have waived his arms at the player he was supposed to be defending, instead of the crowd. At least it would have looked like he was trying to defend. Go back and watch/listen to games of the last 2 years and count how many times Tom Huerter says Hymes doesn't make any effort on defense.

In all seriousness, Evan Hymes has been the emotional leader of this team. We need his fire with this mix of guys. Poole is emotional, but Hymes is the guy that fires up the crowd and the team. His speed and 3 pt shooting energizes everyone.
Much of the rest of the team seems competitive but laid back and quiet from what I've seen in news and interviews.
His steal numbers can go up fast in a press. We never pressed before and he couldn't foul. Except Brookins, who let people by him for steals, the rest of the guards on the team the last 3 years have generally all had the same steal rate. Makes you think "system."
Do we really think Oliver is going to force that much more turnovers than him? White maybe, but then we don't know what he'll give us on offense.
We need to run and put points on the board. The Magical Midget does that. Putting him out there for periods with Wright, Poole, and Long and we're dynamic from a ballhandling and scoring standpoint. I still think Evan can have a fg% of over 40% one of these years. He almost did it as a frosh.

They couldn't "play agressive or foul". Last year the team had more depth and their numbers were actually worse defensively, although Evan picked up 3 more fouls and OD 12. I don't think you will see much change in Evan's defense.

I don't think you will see much change in Evan's defense. Well I'll say this if Evan doesn't play D - he wont play for Jimmy period..let go of the old coach-- and let go of your demons. I'm guessing you see a pretty good version of Evan on the floor this year-- give him a chance Upstate and let go of your bad mouthing the kid
