Everyone take a step back, look at the schedule and realize Siena has a new coach and is going to start 4 freshmen. If Jimmy gets over 14 wins this year he deserves "coach of the year".
This board use to have some good and positive information. Now it's just a bitch/Mitch board full of useless rants and people hiding behind usernames. I sit in section 119 come find me after a probable 0-8 start (1-7 bc UA blows).

Schedule is brutal to start. Throw in a stretch of vs Iona, at Manhattan, at Iona in mid January and you are hard pressed to find 14 wins. Jimmy has some pieces to work with and hopefully we see progress throughout the season.

Which upperclassman besides Poole should start? As for the name it's Bill and it's row M, if you are that interested in my last name pm me...maybe we can discuss your credentials on uniform development.
This will be a great transition year and hopefully a lot more entertaining then the past few years but anything over 14 wins is a bonus.

I think the point he is making is that the team is very young, and adjusting to a new coaching style so expectations should be tempered. Four freshman may not start but will see major minutes. The MAAC is pretty solid this year and the OOC is tough, so its realistic to see siena start off slow and finish .500 or below. I personally think that 6th to 8th in the MAAC should be the goal THIS season.

Siena could easily start this season 3-11 ... 5-9 is optimistic, simply look at the schedule. It does get much easier towards the end.

I would be unhappy with 3-11 but not completely disappointed. 5-9 sounds great but is honestly unrealistic, I hope I am surprised!

Who knows how many games Siena will win this season. We could win 8 games or we could win 18. Most likely we will be in the 12-16 range but that's just a guess. I remember Fran's first year John Graney predicted we might not win a game. Many Siena fans thought we would struggle badly too and we ended up going 15-13. Who knows how the season will play out. Who knows how quickly the freshmen will adjust. Patsos knows the MAAC that is certainly a plus for us. We have the chance to sneak up on people again. Don't underestimate what a team can do playing with the proverbial chip on their shoulder. I do think we'll likely have a losing record come January because of the tough OOC schedule combined with a ton of road games. But the second half of the season should be much better IMHO.

Exactly how is Siena going to sneak up on people? Just like Patsos knows the MAAC, the MAAC knows Patsos and what to expect as far as game plans. The only game Siena will probably be favored in the first 9 games is against Albany. Just play the freshmen and let them take their lumps and get used to D-1 hoops and build for the next couple years.

Who cares about the OOC? It's how we measure up in the MAAC that matters. This isn't your 2012-2013 MAAC.
Last year, I think the only team who didn't return a PG who had played at least 20 mpg at the position the year before was Canisius and they got Billy Baron.
Only Baron, Alvarado/Stores, Sledge, and Morton return as starters now. That's it. Morton isn't that scary and both Alvarado and Stores have broken bones so the frosh Wilson is starting right now for Manhattan.
FF is starting a frosh PG who shot 1-8 from the FT line in their intrasquad scrimmage. Their fans are ready to jump already and are worried whether they'll beat Bridgeport much less a MAAC team. Niagara's frontcourt couldn't do anything against a D2 team that won 8 games last year and graduated it's top 2 players.
This team really doesn't measure up that bad, especially if Cole gets his waiver. There's only 2 or 3 teams that even know how to hold on to the ball and that's being generous.
Seriously, we just have to get past Marist, Rider, FF, SPU, Monmouth and Niagara to have a decent season. All teams with their own serious flaws. These are teams that some people are putting ahead of us for literally one or two established players each.
If we thought we had a decent enough team, on paper, to compete last year..we definitely should think that we're in the thick of it this year, frosh or no frosh.
Are we really THAT scared of a Manhattan team who has led the league in turnovers the last 2 years who even Mitch led us to 3-2 against? Or a Canisius team that we went 1-1 against last year that lost all its shooters and doesn't play defense? A Quinny team that had 52 LESS steals last year than Mitch's last place zone?
Get thru the OOC, try to get into a flow, and get to conference play. Then it's on. Anybody who clicks this year has a chance for top 5.
Show some fire!! Talk trash, be merry! We're in this thing.

This should be an interesting year.
Many of us, myself included, tend to get overhyped about the incoming talent based on their highlight reels, etc. While I do think we have what could be a great incoming class (especially Wright; no offense to any of the others), we should not forget that the top half of the league has perhaps at least comparable talent. In addition, that talent happens to be experienced.
While this sounds like a recipe for failure, we may yet discover that we've landed two or three guys that really can rise to the level that we so fondly remember from the days of the big three. While this is not likely to happen quickly, we could very well see glimmers of it right away.
We also have a dynamic, proven coach who is clearly able to energize his team and has had success where most would (and have) failed miserably.
Given the tough OOC schedule and the youth of our team, the record may not be pretty this year. As the freshmen gain experience, however, I suspect that we'll be winning more than we lose by mid January. I certainly hope for more, but I would consider a .500 record in conference to be a favorable result for this season.

@marksingelais: Siena coach Jimmy Patsos: "I don't think we're going to have a great year ... I think we have a chance to have a winning season." Patsos is pretty much stating the obvious - which is also the consensus among fans. Siena won't have a great season, which I define as 20 wins, a title, and postseason play. But there's a chance for a winning season, which is all we can reasonably expect playing a bunch of freshmen against one of the league's toughest schedules. The race back to the top is a marathon, not a sprint. Sit back and enjoy the ride. This team will be much more competitive and fun to watch than the last 3 seasons. Be entertained by the steady build back to the top rather than being disappointed that Siena doesn't immediately crush everyone in their path the way it used to. They'll get back there soon enough. Be patient everyone.
