If Siena finishes better than 500 overall Jimmy should be MAAC CoY--brutal schedule and playing lots of freshmen and inexperienced players is not the traditional recipe for success .. Saints will be fun to watch-- a tough out at home and the foundation will be laid for next season and beyond

I would flip Siena and St. Peter's, and also Iona/Manhattan at the 1 and 2 spots. Siena should finish mid-pack 7-8th.

We could finish 9th or we could finish 3rd. Siena is the biggest range for all of teams in the league. It will all depend on how quickly the freshmen hit their stride - especially Marquis Wright, Maurice White and Lavon Long. This is one of the hardest seasons to predict but if I had to guess we are either 5th or 6th. I think we're head of Monmouth, Niagara, St. Peter's and Quinnipiac (big jump to the MAAC and they weren't a great NEC team anyway) we can finish ahead of Rider, Fairfield and Marist (we finish ahead of two of them we're 5th). Even Canisius is no slam dunk... Billy Baron is solid but we're still talking about Canisius here. I think only Manhattan and Iona are clearly better than us as of early September. Should be a fun season...as I said before they better get us this year because starting in 2014-2015 I expect Siena to be in contention for the MAAC title and an NCAA bid with the tournament in Albany. Jimmy will continue to build the program up to where Fran had it at.

I agree.. knock it off people! I think it's more or less obvious why some people have a problem with PPC on this board, and it's a problem that's not going to be resolved: there's an occasional conflict of interest between what is best for Siena basketball and what is best for Lavon. Most of the time, of course, there's no conflict. Everyone wants Siena to succeed and everyone wants Lavon to succeed, and those things are mutually reinforcing. But there are times when a potential conflict of interest *does* occur. Recruiting, positions, playing time, etc. And where the typical member of these boards roots *soley* for Siena to succeed, it's perfectly reasonable and natural for someone close to a player to root for both Siena and the player to succeed, but more for the player. I highly doubt PPC would prefer a 20-10 season with Lavon languishing on the bench to a 18-12 season in which he is a starter and the leading scorer. AND THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT. I'd be suspicious of anyone who *didnt* admit to thinking that way about their own family. I'm not saying any of this is true in this instance. But it's so natural and so reasonable that I don't fault anyone for thinking her comments are driven as much by a desire to see Lavon's career maximized as a desire to see Siena's success maximized. Hell, if it was my kid, I'd certainly be looking out for their interests first and the team's second. But it makes it hard to have discussions on a message board. People are, rightly or wrongly, going to read into things. And not without decent reason. Look, I love PPC's posting; I find it informative and interesting. But I can see why it bothers some people.

I wouldn't say Siena has the biggest range...you're just setting yourself up again. Quinny lost Jackson who was the 3rd leg of their big man tripod last few years. Also, they lost their PG of last few years... although they have plenty of options there. Outrebounding the NEC is a lot different than outrebounding the MAAC. They basically play Mitch-ball to the extreme. They had 52 less steals as a team than Siena did last year. Siena was 1 steal out of last in the MAAC, so that's really bad. Stepping up in level can't help that and their rebounding/inside strength will be diluted with the loss of Jackson and the fact that they're now playing in the MAAC. Nobody goes out and says wow St. Francis PA really has great big men. Still, they have a lot of experience.

Q:the 06-07 team-the pre-season projection for that team was what ? I think 3rd behind Marist and Niagara. Once Fran showed he could get the team to a winning season in year one Siena was expected to be pretty good in year two. Though we did lose Scoop and Kojo off his first team. The Big 3 were just starting their freshmen season in 2006-2007. We were picked 10th in 2005 and either 9th or 10th in 1997 and had fun exciting seasons and finished in the top 4 both seasons. I'm not saying we'll finish in the top 4 (the MAAC is probably a little deeper than those seasons and we don't have as much veteran returning talent) but it's amazing what a good coach and a good PG can do for a team's prospects. I wouldn't worry where we are picked. It will be fun surprising people and sneaking up on the rest of the conference! This team is talented but we lack the experience and that will hurt in close games especially on the road.

I bet I wouldn't be the only one. If this team finishes 9th or worse, the players and coaches would have to have given up. There is way too much talent to finish that low in the MAAC. No you would not be. I don't think 9th place should be acceptable to anyone. Mitch could get us 9th place. If patsos can't do better than that especially with Niagara and Loyola with new coaches we have a problem.

Siena doesn't play Loyola this season, they'll be in the Patriot League.

Valid or not it doesn't make much sense to attack the parents of one of the players. She is entitled to her opinion and its fine to disagree with it but is there really a reason to attack her over it? Getting a talented player like Lavon you would think that fans would want to do everything to keep him and his mother happy, no matter how small of a task that it is.
Please do not let one person's rude attack effect your judgments of Siena as a college and the basketball program.

I have news for you- had the program wrecker stayed Siena might not have won a single game this year. Make no mistake about it-- it will take a few years to straighten out the mess the PW left us in. I'm confident the program is headed in the right direction- team will be fun to watch - that's all I expect this year, anything after that will be a bonus

These new names popping up are from B'More ...they are not Siena fans... spreading lies to push their agenda...when siena fans figure out what that agenda is this wont end well...just stop now before its too late Coach

I am glad to see that most if not all on here will no longer be satisfied with a 9th place finish in the MAAC this season. Earlier this summer I posted that 9th place would be a disaster and a bunch of people thought I was crazy. The non conference is brutal and it will be a minor miracle to finish .500 overall.... but the maac season is a different story. Wright being ready to be the starter from day one is huge for this season. Long no matter where he plays will help us win games. I don't know anything about White yet but he should add depth, as will the other newcomers. The veterans are not nearly as bad as the PW made them out to be. We should be competitive in the MAAC, and we get 10 of those contests at home. MTS perhaps said it best, Canisius is still Cansisius. Not Duke. I hope Patsos has something up his sleeve to get the students out for the games. We need them perhaps more than ever before this season-- one or two points a game at a key time could make the difference between a win and a not win.

I would love to see is this team play with a chip on it's shoulder this year. And prove all the f-ers wrong from last year. Go into every game with an attitude!

I think we go 11-9 in the MAAC... maybe 12-8 or maybe 10-10 but we'll be between 10-12 MAAC wins. When Siena is good (or least fun to watch) our crowd gets us a nice edge at home. We need to and I believe we will become very tough to beat at home. I bet we go at least 7-3 in MAAC games at the TUC if not 8-2 this season. Overall winning record will be tough because of the quality OOC schedule we are playing. If we go 12-8 in the MAAC that means going 4-7 in the non-conference to enter the MAAC tournament at 16-15. The margin for error is very small in college basketball especially in a mid-major league. A good coach can win you 7-8 by himself...under Fran we always seem to win the close games. The last three years...I expect for us to find a way to lose. Now we have a strong bench coach again. We do have talent the only problem is other than the three juniors (Poole, Hymes and Silas) they are all 18 and 19 year old kids.
