I thought he had potential but never played to it. Not sure if it was him or Carm not using him.

I thought he had potential but never played to it. Not sure if it was him or Carm not using him. It’s a moot point now. After two weeks being here and seeing what his recruiting opportunities/prospects are he undoubtedly had a heart to heart with ME. Either DMac’s plans or ME’s perception of how DMac coaches led to his choice. Good guy. Wish him well.

Now that it looks like Ojo, Coyle and Smith will be returning, it would be nice if the local media did some stories on these guys and how they view the team going forward. Personally, I think Coyle can be a big contributor. If given the chance to play, he should be able to hit his three-pointers consistently.

I tend to agree, his numbers down the stretch, especially when he actually got floor time were pretty good. I don’t know if I am ready to quantify him as a “big contributor” but I think he may surprise some, especially with a new coach and staff. He averaged almost 10 pts and 5 boards over the last 6 games. Ojo’s an athlete and has a ton of potential, Smith is an enigma, he looks the part but plays with no confidence.

But we are nearing the point that I am counting down the days that Ojo's name isn't in the portal. He was the one guy from last year that I really want back. Coyle showed some signs late in the year and is local and Smith was a bigtime recruit that could potentially benefit from a new coach. If they want to come back I'm fine with that but not going to be upset to see either of their names in the portal like I would be for Ojo.

I would love to see with without carm and Bobby coaching him…I think GMAC will get “it” out of him.

I heard that new coaching staff is big on Smith. He was too good a player in high school to not be successful at this level. I’m interested to see him with GMac’s development program. I wonder if he can be a Elijah Hughes clone if this staff can get his confidence back.

I really like the three guys remaining. All showed a flashes of talent that great coaching can really expand on and get a lot more out of. If I had to pick three guys to keep, and send the rest into the portal, or wherever, Ojo, Smith, and Coyle would be the three.

I’d like to see Smith go to the hoop more and get on the line.

I think of the 3, Ojo and Smith have the most upside and the possibility of turning into significant contributors for the Saints and strong MAAC players. I am not completely sold on Coyle beyond being a role player. As the one local of the 3, I hope he proves me wrong.

Coyle plays with attitude and purpose, both in short supply late last year on a bad Siena team. He has a good looking shot that will only improve in an offense successful in creating open looks for wing players. Every team needs role players who do the little things and are adept at playing off the ball. He has the potential to be a key contributor … hope he stays. Ojo is long and active, both great attributes. Gmac make say he plans to play man D, but OJo with the two commits would make a nasty back line of a 2 3 zone with their length. Smith was asked to play out of position then lost his confidence. I still think he can develop into a solid contributor. I would have liked to see Michael E (the Canadian version) stick around. Another kid who played hard, physical and with attitude. He was coming into his own before the injury. Siena will be as good as the guards they are able to sign.

Agreed with you on most points but did Canadian Mike E really look like he was playing hard? To me, he looked like he had been studying at the James Harden school of basketball.

In the games where he was getting decent run, I thought he looked like a player. As they say, the great thing about freshman is that they become sophomores. Just my opinion.

Does it really matter … would like to think that G-Mac will be recruiting a better player to replace what he lost to the portal … and speaking of portal it looks like Gio is the only departee who has landed
