I loved that hire from the start. He took those two programs from the depths of where Siena is now. And they haven't been heard from since. Winners win, we should go back to that if we are serious about winning, which we are not. Idk about that… after Fran; Wes Miller had a pretty good decade plus run at UNCGB & Brett Reed had a good run at Lehigh for just under two decades. For laughs you may find it interesting to take Carm’s record at Siena and Fran’s at UNCGB and do a side by side comparison. You may find that they are not dissimilar. Fran had one NCAA appearance and one NIT (which is a different tournament today). Carm to be fair had the misfortune of the NCAA tournament being cancelled, dealing with the challenges of COVID seasons, HOF Pitino & the advent of the portal/NIL. Both hovered in the 500 range overall. Fran’s best 5 years; 1 -1st, 2 - 2nds & 2 - 3rds Carm’s 4 best years; 2 - 1st, & 2 - 3rds. Oddly Fran found himself dealing with a 3 win conference season in his 4 th year & continued to coach two additional seasons finishing 500 combined over the last two. The jury is out on Carm & if he gets two more to attempt to improve. Obviously we know of Fran’s success at Siena and long career at Iowa. I’m not judging here, just tossing out a few stats for comparison and conversation. I actually found it interesting. The big difference for me is the ncaa appearances. He had proven he was a successful coach by taking two programs with losing records and winning championships. The records are irrelevant to me because those two programs play a lot of guarantee games and were in a lower level league at the time. What's done is done Carm is our coach but if we are in the position again we should look to hiring someone who has already won championships... whether at a lower (are there any?) level d1 program or d2 or even d3 if the circumstances are right.

There are never any guarantees regardless of where a coach comes from; Mike Maker was an exceptional winning coach (.830 pct / 4 deep runs into the D3 NCAA’a) but couldn’t cut it Marist. Jamion Christian had 2 NCAA’s and some success at MSM but his career flamed out. If NCAA’s and program elevation are part of your criteria, Will Brown at UA obviously meets and exceeds those prerequisites with 5 NCAA appearances. You also have a the option of Assistant coaches from varying P5/6/mids, we’ve had varied success and failure there as well. We’re closing in on 15 years of getting it wrong with DArgenio being the only constant. IMO regardless of where the next coach comes from, when and if it ever gets to that point, Siena needs to deviate from DArgenio and whatever hiring methodology he’s used in the past. I almost feel we need an AD change before this program can move forward, especially if we find ourselves in the position of making a coaching change.

rumors flying around Fran, he is possibly retiring or moving on from Iowa, with Ann Arbor as a possible destination.............he has past Dr Tom Davis as the winningest coach in Hawkeye mens hoop history...........Patrick just finished up his Sr season, and his youngest son Jack who will grad from HS in 2025 is the #1 player in Iowa and a top 100 player in the country has indicated he has no plans to play at Iowa..............come home Fran............of course just wishing.........

After Gallaudet (brief stint) he was an assistant at Catholic and UVM under Lonergan - where they were quite successful. That period covered approximately 8 seasons. He’s a guy I wish we would have pursued. Has a lot of bodies in the grave if you know what I mean. Why with all that success he is still at UVM. Everyone says family reasons but wayyy more than that. Siena wouldn’t get a look from him because he is tied to Patsos. understood.............my post was just to point out the incredible run that Becker is having, not even remotely a chance that he would be possible for Siena......

Read the Iowa board, they haven’t actually been enamored with Fran either, I can’t see Michigan hiring him from another Big 10 program.

If Fran wanted to get into a new situation, I thought a place like Depaul would make some sense for both sides. Tough job but they pay well and maybe he could recruit more kids from the Northeast then he could at Iowa. Obviously, that ship has sailed because Depaul hired Chris Holtmann. I could see him taking an A 10 level job at some point to get away from the unrealistic expectations at Iowa. Unfortunately, I don’t see many programs at or above Iowa’s level that would be that interested in him due to his age and having underachieved in the tournament.

Personally i think Iowa would be making a huge mistake but it would definitely be interesting to see where he would end up, or what he would decide to do with his career if Iowa makes a change. Would he just walk and retire? A lot of coaches especially old school are fed up with the NIL and portal.. IK there’s definitely a certain 518 program that would love a sequel😂.

Don't care about what a new coach's name is or where he comes from - he just needs go be hungry.
Some coach that is either single or would rather be out recruiting than be at his 8 year old's birthday party at Urban Air.
