I have no defense for how bad Marist has been and is right now. Just observations from a fellow MAAC fan. Yes I have a bias against Siena, but was I really wrong here? I try to respect this board when I post and not get obnoxious. I think this wasn't that out of bounds. Nothing out of bounds at all, I asked two questions and you provided no answers. I would like to hear your plan for Marist becoming relevant again and why the F we shouldn't boot you out of the conference if you don't improve? That's fair. I will respond. I think Dunne is perfect bridge coach. Marist has fallen so far that they are typically one of bottom 20-30 teams in D1. I think he can get them to where St. Peters was when he left. He had many bad years early, then he got them one title, then settled in as a average team. If he can do that for Marist, that is great. THEN, the job becomes somewhat good again. No good up and coming coach was taking Marist job off their past decade. For your vulgar portion of your post, Marist might not be helping MAAC in mens basketball, but check the other rankings my man.

oh I agree he was awful, but then he did come out, and we still stunk up the joint.................so we had plenty of game left to get it back going in the right direction, and yet we didn't...........that long set of possessions down the stretch where we missed 9 shots in a row was not on Jimmy Neutron Ratliff, sorry..... I thought it would be fun this season to get on here and follow some of my former aau guys. But nothing fun about this website when Siena loses. Always someone's fault. And its always Ratliffs fault or Fridays before. You guys need to stop with that and face reality. Those guys or the bench haven't caused one loss. And some of you get on here and lie about kids for what. Someone said Ratliff got scored on 8 times tonight. You look goofy, like people can't look at stats. Siena had a 10 point lead when Ratliff went in and a 6 point lead when he went out. He played less than 2 minutes. He got scored on once and shot airball. So what, Gary Harris shot an airball. Several of the kids have shot airballs. And Carey got scored on 4 straight times at end of game. The Hein kid gets scored on every week. So what, its basketball. If you don't like Ratliff or Friday or the kids on bench when we lose, who cares. But stop trying to blame them every week. I'm not blaming starters but they are the ones playing most of time and they are the ones that went 1 for 7 and 5 for 13 tonight and gave up 68 points. Ratliff looks like a very nervous and unconfident player. Nothing like summer when I had aau team up there and watched them. That's on Carm to get him back where he was or not. But stop blaming these kids or at least blame kids playing most of game before you get to bench. The difference with Ratliff and the starters is I, we, can forgive starters that have done a lot of positive things, and still point out if they have a bad night. I said Carey had the worst night of anyone. I do feel like Ratliff never should have come in the game. He's done nothing to earn any minutes. You bought up, "Harris threw an airball." Yeah, but he scored 12 points for us first!!! AND hes not known for his shooting, but for his athleticism. Ratliff is supposed to be a "shooter." If he's not, what else does he do? And maybe its unfair, but he's a kid the fanbase was expecting to replace Sloan, and what he offered (37% from the behind the arc). Not only hasnt he done that, he's shooting...8.3% from the field. 8.3!! Tonight when he came in, his man got an offensive rebound in his first :12 on the floor. Then his man, drove right by him :13 later and made a layup. :10 later he got a pass for a wide open, uncontested 3, and he overthrew the basket for an airball. Another uneventful minute, his man drove by him again and he fouled him. So he actually played 2:12 and made 4 mistakes. Not sure who blamed Friday tonight. He played pretty well. 7pts and 5 reb in 13 min. I'l take that every game. At least Sammy gives some good stuff every other game. JR has been consistently bad all season. He shouldnt play. For any reason. Sorry if thats harsh, but you're coddling him.

Schools recruit multiple students and athletes. Marist has kept football. Do you think they kept football because they rock in football? Overall athletic department counts and you just literally dismissed all the other athletes in Siena sports other than basketball. Nice.

As a non-Siena grad I really don't care about any other sports, I am a fan of their men's basketball program and that is it (used to follow football cause I had a couple friends coaching for them but that ended). And there are thousands of people like me in the area that follow Siena basketball and have no idea how MAAC teams do in every other sport.

Another uneventful minute, his man drove by him again and he fouled him. So he actually played 1:45 and made 4 mistakes. Look we can go back and forth all night long. Saying you can forgive starters because they have played and have proven themselves, but blame a player that has shot less than 2 shots a game and hasn’t played a lot is silly. Yes he is supposed to be a shooter and he hasn’t shot well, but the kid has only shot 13 shots the whole season, which is less than most shoot in one game. Who’s to say if he shot 10 shots a game, he wouldn’t make some and get in a rhythm. And I was only saying Harris shot an airball because when Ratliff shot an airball it was the end of the world. You can’t say one airball is okay because we don’t expect him to make it, but another player can’t shoot an airball because he supposed to be a shooter and he’s not allowed to do that. And yes he had a bad stretch in the two minutes he was in and he was taken out but that didn’t cost the team the game. Everyone player this season has had bad stints and those alone didn’t cost us the game if we lost. Ratliff didn’t cost us this game, just like Carey didn’t cost us this game either. And Friday didn’t cost us the Yale game when everyone was bashing him. But the good this is that neither you or me make any of the decisions. Carm does. And Carm and Ratliff are going to have to figure this out. I am hoping that Carm can get him back to where he was when I saw him in the summer, cause like someone else posted in another thread, if he starts making them it will be a different story and someone else’s fault. But I agree if he doesn’t, then he won’t be playing. As I said before, not one kid is costing us any of the games we lost, which was the whole point of my original post. Yes they might not be contributing much while they are in, but one person is not costing us the games we have lost. It was a bad loss, but it is a long season. You have a good night!

Didn’t watch, glad I didn’t but I think this all boils down to a chemistry issue. Team has none.

I agree Jimmy Ratliff didn’t “cost” us the game, but no getting around the fact we had a 10 point lead when he came in— he made several mistakes in his 2 plus min he played- at end of the 2 min plus stretch a 10 point lead was down to 4. And I agree JR is playing ( and shooting) with zippo confidence right now- something going on with him for sure. Carm’s job is to put players in position to succeed- I’m not sure playing a tight man to man is JR’s strength. Also pretty obvious team is regressing- we are way too predictable on both offense and defense. Cal poly is a team that struggled all year with turnovers- and we only pressed last min or so? Cal poly had 9 players play 15 min or more- we had 6—we had two players play entire 40 min( Pickett and Camper) we ran out of gas for sure
Having said all that we aren’t winning much when we get no scoring out of Burns and Carey – can’t shoot 4-12 ( 33.3%) from foul line, not to mention 4 times ( 2 in each half) we missed front end of 1 and 1’s- that is a lot of points we left out there at free throw line
We are way too predictable- and have a few players in a funk. I don’t know what the answer is, but I have to think it’s hard to play man to man D – to run consistently and shoot well when you have too many players playing the entire game- Carm has two weeks to figure it out, right now we are not a good team- and we are trending in wrong direction, seemingly getting worse every game

Siena up 10, Ratliff comes up and his man scores 8 straight and he air balls a 3 and turns the ball over. He’s terrible and Carm keeps running him out there. That was the turning point. They got confident and made shots. Carey looks like he spot the entire trip out west at the dispensary. He played awful. Not happy about it but I was thinking the same thing.

sorry, this team & Carm at this point are a major disappointment..............and that is a FAIR assessment without making any excuses for the schedule (many more road games & spread out)........... Here's to hoping we are this year's Iona, suck in out of conference and then steam roll through to a conference Championship.

The other thing we shouldn't forget, that Siena played this game between 10 and 12 at night. You don't "correct physically or mentality into a different time zone in just a day or so. Very few of those young men have seldom, if ever had to cope with that. This is not making an excuse for their showing, but a good reason. Also they are not getting progressively worse. This game aside, they have played well and made progress. Whoever said that they haven't jelled as as a unit yet is right. But practice is not the only place you jell as a unit. Games are where that actually happens, and the schedule is playing a large part in slowing their ability to come together. As for Jalen acing as not wanting the ball, I believe he is trying not to be Mr. NBA as some have accused him, and not be Mr. showoff. He's trying to be the team player he thinks people want him to be and he seems to be trying to work that out. The push and pull on these kids is very tough. As Yankee says it's a long season. By the way Yankee talks as if he has actually coached.

I think if you review the footage, there were times when Siena went to a zone - I also saw that at the Colgate game. They may not be staying in it for long periods, but they are using zone on occasion.
Coaching staff and team still finding their way - this was arguably their worst game yet. Hopefully they can get on track back at home.

As a few others have said there appears to be a very real chemistry issue with the team. Too much standing around watching somebody else with the ball unless Jalen and Burns are working the Pickett and roll. No one other than Burns and Pickett seem to consistently do a decent job stepping out as a hedge defender on the top of the key screen. Of course shooting woes will kill any team. We still have the core to make a great run in the MAAC. Finally can you imagine if Harris had made that alley you dunk on the midcourt pass and Burns rebound dunk was sick. Still support the coaching staff and players and of course love my Saints.
