After talking to players- watching a practice, some things are pretty obvious; here is my best guess at where things stand right now.
First of all Jalen and Don will play a lot, if Carm plays pace he is talking about I expect 30/32 min a game from both of them. If Siena ends up a mid-tempo team might see 32/35 min from them they will unquestionably be the strength of this team. They have potential to be best guard tandem in MAAC.
Manny looks good, he put some work into his shot and body. While I don’t expect him to be a sharpshooter, I do expect to see improved shooting stats from him, another player that will probably play 30 min at 3/4
Wanted to see Burns play, players all tell me he is playing great. Knee is a concern, but I do expect 25 min + from Elijah depending on well his knee holds up
Sammy – another player, supposedly playing very well. Expect Sammy to see 20 min a game
From here it gets a bit dicey predicting min
Harris, obviously very athletic, tries to dunk everything ( love it) but truth be told still looks a bit raw, in a up and down pressing running game, he will be obvious contributor. May take some time in half court sets
J Ratliff, looked solid, if Harris struggles Jimmy will play more, probably a better option right now in half court sets
Sutherland - like most freshmen Luke could use another 10 lbs of muscle, but kid can play, expect to see Luke getting at least 10 min a game maybe 15. As Luke gets some experience and gets stronger he is going to be a good player for us
King supposedly playing very well , definitely a scorers mentality, if Jordan struggles expect to see more from Hein- veteran presence, good size for a guard won’t make many mistakes and will play solid D
Young is a big boy- he knee/leg was wrapped, again like most freshmen bigs he will probably take a year or so to develop. Our starters should be solid, Jalen is best returning player in MAAC, Don looks very good, Harris has a world of potential and may start or be one of first players off bench, because most of our subs are young, I’m guessing we will see a lot of Ratliff and Hein to start season, as year progresses the freshmen should press them for more and more min, team will be a lot better next March than in November, With new coach and playing so many freshmen don’t really don’t know what to expect, but I do think it’s going to be a lot of fun watching this team develop

The frosh are the key to the season. If at least Harris and 1 other newcomer aren't ready to contribute, the team doesn't have enough to compete for a title in my opinion. Jalen and Don are going to do a lot of damage, but they can't do it all by themselves. They have to find at least 2 consistent guards behind them. I do not expect Camper to ever be an all-league caliber player, but if he does all the little things, that will be enough. Burns having knee problems is a concern. Those tend to linger long term. If he goes down for extended time, then Friday needs to step up. And given Friday's history, anyone thinking Young should redshirt is out of their minds - I have a feeling he's going to be needed at some point this season. Sutherland and Ratliff are two to keep an eye on. Both can play multiple positions and that versatility may just come in handy should the injury bug hit. Lastly with King, all I ask of him is that he be the sharpshooter he's reputed to be - with the loss of Seymour we need a new one.
I think Siena might just potentially field the best starting 5 in the league if Harris and Burns both start and perform as highly touted as we make them out to be. But the weakness may be the bench. While there is decent frontcourt depth, after Pickett and Carey guard/wing options will be suspect. Without a strong bench, they aren't getting past teams like Iona in tournament play and the back to back games that come with it. I'm also concerned about 3 point shooting. Right now, Pickett and Carey are the only proven shooters in division 1 play, both in the 35% or so range. I'd like to see another 1 or 2 guys step up in that area. I fear we may miss Seymour more than we think. His well-documented issues as a one-dimensional player aside, that dude was instrumental in putting them over the top on more than one occasion.

Burns with a knee issue this early concerns me a ton, as does depth.
Let’s see who steps up, Carm’s going to need 3 kids capable of production coming off the bench.

I worry about Harris’ shooting, but he’s supposed to be a good FT shooter. I have to believe he has higher shooting and upside than Camper.
I’m skeptical how much Manny has improved. One day is not enough to judge either player.

I agree with most of the 2 posts. I think that Hein might surprise us a bit. Not that he is a superstar but will be a good contributor. Just might be a very good defender on the press.

At this point it is too early to tell. Based on the open practice and Burns and Friday sitting out and Harris not getting much time in the set offense drills is concerning to me. On the plus side King looked more ready to contribute than some of the scholarship guys. If Burns and Friday cannot be 100% by the start of the season that would certainly dampen even my typical optimism.

A ton depends on the quality of the MAAC this year. If it is as bad as last year we can win the league even without the freshman if we slow it down and play Pickett and Carey 35-38 a night. If there are several top 200 teams in the league then we will need the freshman to play their part to have a shot at winning it.

I think we all agree on almost everything we have seen so far. I'm leaning on being fairly optimistic. (as always) We did pull some games out due to Seymour's shooting but his deficiencies also contributed to some or many of our losses. I think our athleticism is going to win a number of games this year that we would or did lose last year.

I think Siena/Iona/Rider/QU probably will all be in the top 150 of KenPom. After that maybe another one or two surprise and finish in the top 200. The league can't be worse than it was last year. Rider could be better because they really underachieved last year. But QU lost the POY and Iona lost a key cog in McGill and don't reload like they used to. Carm is smart. He wants to play as fast as he can but he'll do whatever it takes to win games. He knows how important year one is as a new head coach. My guess on the starters will be - PG: Pickett SG: Carey SF: Camper PF: Burns C: Friday The first five off the bench: Harris, King, Sutherland, Ratliff, Hein Burns/Friday won't play more than 25-28 minutes a game. In fact I would guess only Pickett/Carey will average over 30 MPG. Perhaps Harris once we get into MAAC play. 26 days until tip-off and two closed scrimmages vs. D1 teams and many practice before the ball goes up for real against American on November 5. Just want to see the team keep improving and stay healthy and I think we've got a chance for a really special season!

I wouldn't be overly concerned about the Burns injury. This seems like a more long-term pain tolerance thing than an actual injury. It's smart for him to manage the load in practice and probably keep him to 25-28 mins in games (especially early in the year).

He's a big man he's not going to log 35 minutes a game (at least not early in the season) especially playing faster at 6'8 240 - same for Friday. I'm not too worried. Harris will be fine...might have a slow start. Remember as good as Ubiles was he started his career slowly if I can remember. Not that I'm comparing Gary to Edwin but there are some similarities there.

Certainly looking forward to the season for the first time in a long time. I do have to chuckle because I brought up the Burn's knee issue over the summer when I heard about it and I was squashed saying that I shouldn't be spreading rumors. Ummm interesting how now there is some concern. Hopefully he can play all year and the knee never becomes an issue. Go Saints!!

One day is not enough to judge either player. We want him to be the next Edwin Ubiles right? Ubiles shot 49/27/71 his first year and averaged nearly 12 ppg. He wasn't exactly lighting it up from deep but still got the ball in the hoop often. If we get that out of Harris, I'll be ecstatic. By his second year Edwin got that to 53/42/70 and 17 ppg. Up was the only direction for Camper's shooting to go. He likely improved from dreadful...to below average. Baby steps.

Over the years we have had a quite a few whack jobs post over the top crap on this board ( and its many predecessors) So when you see a post from someone with only a handful of posts its always taken with a grain of salt- thanks for posting it when you did
