Siena picked last (first time ever picked 11th). While Siena has been picked last in the MAAC before I believe this is the first time they’ve been picked 11th. www.google.com/amp/s/www.timesunion.com/sports/amp/Siena-men-s-basketball-picked-last-in-MAAC-13330829.phpThat’s ok, we’ll catch other team off guard and hopefully finish better than predicted. While we may not finish 4th like in Fran’s first year (also picked last that year) it wouldn’t surprise me if they were to actually finish 4th, 5th or 6th. Also wouldn’t surprise me if we finished 7th, 8th or 9th. I would be very surprised if we finish 10th or 11th. I just think this team will play harder and way smarter than the last few seasons. Let’s Go Saints!

On paper that's a fair pick, seeing as how the team went 8-24 last season - and most of the best players from that team are gone. So the question is: what's left, and what can JC do with it? That will determine how well they do this year. My bet is they won't finish last, but will still be a PIG team. The last time we were in this position, Fran McCaffery inherited a 6-24 team, and then lost most of it's best players in Tommy Mitchell, Mike Haddix, Jack McClinton, and Brent Sniezyk. What was left at fist glance was a bunch of scraps. We were picked last and finished fourth. But do not expect a repeat of McCaffery's first year. It's simply not realistic. Fran had Antoine Jordan, Kojo Mensah, Tay Fisher, David Ryan, and Kenny Hasbrouck to work with. He had nothing beyond that, but all those guys ended up averaging double figures PPG, so it was enough (Ryan averaged 9.8 technically). That's three all-MAAC players and one all-MAAC rookie. Note that none of those starters from Fran's first year looked like stars the year before. So a better coach and a new system can make a big difference.
While we can hope that something similar happens with this crew, it appears at first glance that Christian has nowhere near that much talent on hand. Looking at the current roster, Khalil Richard looks like the sole sure-fire consistent double-digit scorer. Fisher will have his ups and downs - looking like a star one night and a bench warmer the next. Of the freshmen, I think Seymour and Pickett have the best chance to be impact players right out of the gate. Maybe some guys like Friday or Camper will unexpectedly flourish in a new system, come out of nowhere, and surprise us just like in 2005. While things look bleak on paper, I think this team will have a few surprises in store for us. I don't think we have enough to finish 4th, but I do think with a better coach we have enough to do better than 11th. Jamion Christian's optimism and upbeat attitude about this team is contagious.

I’ll predict 6th and crush the 11th place team in the first round (if that is still the format).

I think Darwiche will light it up this year. He might become the best player on the team and is surely our table setter. Seymour and Pickett will be good too. This is a solid defensive team and that will be where we have an advantage. Fisher looks much improved as well. Don't sleep on our walk-ons too. Kids can play and will see the floor! I think people who haven't been at practices will be surprised by these guys when they first see them play.

And exciting!

Love it...it's always good to be underestimated. Let them sleep on us - motivation to be ready to prove them wrong! Hopefully it turns out like Fran's first year.

Darwiche was still 19 as of the end of July. Didn’t he recently have a birthday? Though it was around the time he arrived on campus. I believe I saw a Twitter post. So that would be 20 now. I wasn’t sure if it was 20 or 21 when I posted originally. Anyhow he has more experience vs your average freshman. Kid has a ton of upside.

Everything i saw from him on offense I believe fits. If you notice he is always near the coach. He will be that extension of the coach on the floor. Definitely looking forward to seeing how he develops (along with the rest of the team)
