Really like Beilein. Young and looking for this to be a stepping stone which honestly is a good thing for our level but it doesn't mean there's only one really good option out there. Maybe there's a really good coach out there that may be stuck in a bad conference and sees this job as the only way to make a good jump. One recruiting class isn't as important as the next McCaffery, but at the same time don't take too long or the good options will go elsewhere. At least have negotiations with a final two by the end of next week and if Beilein is our worst option then I'm happy with it.

I would like to see Siena have a legitimate hiring process this go around. Let ..Gerry McNamara, Patrick Beilein and Chris Caputo interview and see what happens..

D-Dog, I like Tobin also, very successful in his career as a head coach. Gerry Mac is still my 1st choice and I wouldn't be upset if Beilein got it.

The last time a real search committee was put together, a thorough review and many interviews were conducted of several candidates and interestingly, a little known candidate, who was anything but one of the frontrunners going into the search ,absolutely blew away the committee at his interviews and ultimately was hired That’s how we got Fran and that's why we absolutely need to do a search for our next head coach. I’m not saying Beilien isn’t the guy, I’m saying if he is the guy then it will be evident from the process.

The thing I like about Beilein is that we would be getting two head coaches for the price of one....there is no way papa would let Patrick fail. There would be good recruits guided our way plus some help in scheduling up games. I'm sure father and son would be on the phone every day. Patrick is young and still learning but he would have one hell of a tsacher

Won't matter with the right assistants, and I am hoping Abe stays for a Midwest connection. Don't forget a feeder program from connections on larger stage.

Sky hit the nail on the head....agree that Beilein would be a 2 for 1 deal. As any father would do, pops will do everything he can to help son succeed.
That mean's when Beilein Sr. would be out on the recruiting trail looking at a kid for the Wolverines and see another kid such as a Bisbing out in Ohio that he feels would be a good mid major fit for Siena, Beilein Jr. will soon know about this kid.
The rest would be up to the kid to recruit, close the deal, develop the player, and do well as in-game coach, but most definately agree with sky that we would have another whole set of eyes out there on the recruiting trail. And in areas of the country that we might not normally be using our resources to recruit at, looking out for us and not competing against us.
I think he would be a guy who has some laser focus eyes on the carrott. Would bring an all-in attitude. Would be fair and objective in player evaluation.
Finally which is really important at this stage in the game for the repuation of the college as a whole and the mens basketball program, is that he would represent Siena well. On the recruiting trail. In the media. And in the eye of the public. The fact that he is a good looking younger guy does not hurt.
He might not be here long but I certainly think he would get us heading in the right direction, and with some free mentoring from pops, would win many more games next year with this same group of kids than Patsos ever would.
Who knows, Sammy Friday might just become a beast in the MAAC his last two years with Siena?
All-In on Beilein!

a full nationwide search by committee should be conducted for the next Siena Saints Head Coach. Program needs to get this hire right this time. Need to reverse the downward trend. If in the end Beilein emerges as the best candidate than hire him. But at this stage I am sure he is the best candidate out there. Let's see who else is interested in turning the Saints around before we hand the reins over.

Although as it turned out beating Siena may not have been that big a deal.

I feel that recruiting at the D 2 level is an entirely different ball game than he would have at Siena...I'll give you that but as so many people have said on this board "good coaches win" and he has shown he can win. Good/right assistants and a great mentor should solve the recruiting issues.
