I am certainly no business major, but I don't see why a 4 year 'contract' can't have caveats (outs) in it on both sides as well as performance bonuses but NOT EXTENSIONS. It seems to me that some decent legal eagles (maybe even Siena alum) could figure it out.

None. its like anything else... once you get into the hundreds of thousands of dollars or more in compensation, there is no real accountability and even if you lose the job the safety net is in place to provide hundreds of thousands if not more. True entitlement.

True but that is where a coaches agent comes in, and school's attorneys and such to negotiate all of that.... sometimes you are on the winning end, sometimes not. I don't know what the big hurry is or was to extend his contract. Where was he going? and if he did, so what, you already have a list of candidates ready.... you weren't retaining a coach who had any sort of history there. reminds me of when Weis was extended at Notre Dame after one good year.... he should be sending his agent bit-coins monthly based on how much he made to NOT coach when it went south. and GB, yes both sides of any contract can have certain opt ins, opt outs, buy outs... but that has to be "won" at the negotiating table... based on how Siena operates, I am sure agents run roughshod over them and get everything they need.

S95 - this is where the laziness of the admin is visible. He was extended so they wouldn't have to do another search.

Speaking of bit coins...How bout give the new guy a 3 yr. 50 bitcoin deal with no buyout, and call it a day.
Its up to him in how he wants to use them.
If he's smart and hangs onto them, he should be not just a millionaire as he would almost be right away right now, but a multi millionaire in no time at all.
Best mid major deal coaching gig ever.

This could very well be the case for that one year extension after the CBI win. Still scratching my head on the second extension. A lot of the posts here are spot on, you dont have to guarantee every year and lost guarantee money can be made up with incentives and other perks.
