They gave him another game. No harm. ESPN was just being careful. I don't think it's a big deal given current events.

@brittmchenry on ESPN reassigning announcer Robert Lee: "It's more a reflection of society right now & PC it's gotten."
.@kimguilfoyle: "[@espn was] protecting themselves, they're not protecting Robert Lee."

I guess we can no longer call him "the General". He's been demoted.

Lee picked up some nice name recognition. Curious if he has or will receive a bonus. Situation is a HR legal nightmare for ESPN.

It would be like someone named "Hooker" not being allowed to stand on a street corner. Ironic and funny at the same time Gorvy. The term "hooker" derives from the "camp followers" of Civil War Union General Joseph Hooker who's camps were notorious for "entertaining the ladies" of dubious repute.

I had no idea his nickname came from a confederate. I wouldnt use it anymore if I was him. The name DID NOT come from a confederate...Lee is a very common Asian name. He did not "pick" his name...it is his birth name..."the general" may be of concern but i would not change it.

She specifically mentioned his nickname, which most of us know is "the General". I don't for sure how Rob came up with that nickname, but given his birth name (Robert Lee), wouldn't surprise me in the least if he (or maybe someone else) decided he should be "the General" because of the obvious historical reference. And, if that's the case, then "yes", the nickname would have come from a Confederate military officer.
