We hit only one Siena practice this summer but were really impressed with Shivers, Fisher, and Huerter - Oduro had just arrived on campus after taking the gold for his country but is an imposing looking freshman-very big, and rebounded and defended extremely well. Fisher was consistently scoring against him and has developed a nice little turnaround jumper. Huerter was aggressive and shooting lights out-Fingers crossed for both of them-and the team! ooh- Kenny and Ronald were both in attendance and providing the star motivation.

Let's hope Fisher is a better player on the block. I've said it from the get go this kid had no business playing on the perimeter. He's definitely got size and strength I'd like to see him utilize it in the post. I think he's athletic enough to play down low he was just exposed as wing player. Question is can he defend and rebound.

Still no mention of Bentley. I would have hoped his athleticism would get him in the mix.

I'm anxious to see how Heurter does. If he can be that flex 4, would feel a lot better.

www.timesunion.com/sports/amp/Siena-basketball-s-Shivers-sprains-knee-11974327.phpShivers sprains his knee in practice today. Hopefully it doesn't wind up being any worse than a sprain, otherwise we are in DEEP trouble this season. Would love to see him play on this trip but if he isn't 100% don't even consider letting him on the floor and risking further injury. Positive is that it looks like he's still planning to make the trip, if there was serious concern of ligament damage I would think we would have stayed home to get an MRI.

Exactly what I was saying when all the pundits had the entire season and playing time all figured out by July. Never can tell what time brings. Let's hope it's minor!

Carleton beats Northeastern tonight for yet another D1 win. The Ravens two losses-Towson State and James Madison. Their pre season schedule and travel equals a second season.

Too bad on Shivers injury- hopefully it’s just a sprain- plenty of time to heal. This injury should give Jimmy’s bench a chance to shine. Opportunity is knocking for Huerter and Smithin and possibly Richard I think Shivers is going to have a nice season, but let’s be real he avg 4 ppg last year. Program has to be able to overcome an injury to a player who avg 4 ppg last season- if Jimmy can’t the “program” is in deep trouble.

Looks like Fisher will start game 1. Wouldn't surprise me if each of the 3 centers gets 1 start on the trip, I'm sure all 3 will get plenty of minutes.
And, since It's officially game day, here are the things I really want to see:
1.) Jordan Horn. I've been surprised how well Horn has done at the point this offseason based on the reports I've gotten. Obviously he can also play off the ball as well. Can't wait to see how we deploy him and how he looks in those roles.
2. The bigs. Having watched Prince with team Canada, I pretty much saw what his strengths were in those games, we'll see how comfortable he looks with us, hopefully establishing himself as the top big. Also want to see Fisher, saw him once in practice and he looked good, hoping that will carry over.
3. Thomas Huerter. If he is truly 6-7, 210 and is able to rebound serviceably, he can be a good backup for Degnan. We saw so little from him last year but hopefully he makes a sophomore jump.

Here's where the journey of playing without interior defense begins.
