You guys have me hopeful that this is really almost over.... In the meantime I am glad the team is at least fighting for respectability. Canisius is no gimme then going to need a minor miracle on 17 hours rest. It can be done, I saw Georgia win two games on the same day once en route to a title. They had a sub .500 record too.

Why is it when Siena wins or loses against a quality team it's either the other team played poor or we were lucky. Monmouth did not play poor this evening. They played with the same consistency that got them 24 wins before tonite. They scored around their average, shot at their average, turned the ball over below their average and their senior leader scored at his average. Siena fell a few points short on the road to a quality team. It's a hard to win on the road in college basketball. Siena lost tonite because they turned the ball over 19 times, not because Monmouth played poor or "was begging to give the game away" or were flat-out out coached or didn't develop their players well enough. You think King Rice wasn't excited to see Marquis off the floor at the end? Bottom line is Monmouth goes only as far as all 5'8 of Justin Robinson, make no mistake about that and that is what doesn't make them vastly superior come next week. They are the ones coming in with a target on their back. I'm exited and maintaining optimism that a 14-17 or 15-16 Siena team will go into the conference tournament next week and leave it all on the floor. Bottom line is you win three games next weekend and it doesn't matter if you are 18-16 or 29-5, you are going to the tournament. Thats what type of league the MAAC is.

Just finished watching the DVRed game. Good game there for the taking, but a tough loss. On to Sunday for Senior day to finish out the regular season and then sweep the tournament to "save" the season. Go Saints.

The end is near. Good luck, JP. There is a used car dealership somewhere you can buy. #Believe

A very winnable game. Lavon was terrific and Quis, offensively, helped keep it close. Way too many self-inflicted turnovers. You beat the Niagara’s playing this sloppy but not the Monmouths. How many times did we dump the ball into JO and come up empty? He needs to elevate his game and finish much stronger in the paint if we are going to do any damage in the post-season. We can beat any team in the league if we just stop beating ourselves.

Played a good game but why did he not have Lavon covering Robinson in a big spot in the end?
Finishing regular season under .500
At the beginning of the season, I would have never thought we would end this regular season with this team under .500.
If we ever do win the MAAC Tournament, we are guaranteed a #16 Seed, possibly setting us up to be the first #16 Seed to beat a #1 Seed.
All part of the grand plan.

In 2002 espn actually made a mock video about under .500 Siena winning the NCAA tournament complete with how they would win each game. They ended up playing a pretty good game but losing in D.C. to "jimmy's" national championship team.

Decent chance we get Fairfield. If FF wins at Niagara and Canisius loses to SPU at home. Or if Rider wins and forces a 3-way tie at 10-10- FF would be 5th.

Wish I could "like" this post more than one time...Absolutely my thoughts on the game tonight and the team/staff in general. Despite the dire predictions of the team statistician, the man defense was as effective as any could be. It was a late 4 pt loss on the road to an EQUALLY talented (as demonstrated by the score) team that has won 14 in a row. I strongly dislike the "stand around offense" until the final 10 seconds that leads to shot clock violations, but that to me is execution, not coaching. The game was lost on turnovers, many unforced, a few the result of lazy passes. This tem can beat Monmouth on 17 hours rest.

Just curious..... This was a solid defensive effort because we held Monmouth to 2 buckets under their season average and Robinson to his season average and the team to its season averages or because we didn't get smoked by 20 and didn't give up 100 plus?
2 and 6 (.250) vs top 5
4 and 6 (.400) vs top half
Not making feel all that confident for next weekend.

Agree with SaintsinCNY.
If they make their foul shots and committed less turnovers, they win that game.
If they are going to beat Monmouth and win three games in three days next weekend in Albany, they also need to get the Richards kid feeling confident enough to play his game.
If he is not going to try to be an offensive threat when he is in there, he hurts the team so play Smithen.
Richards has shown he can score in a variety of ways so he has to start playing and shooting with confidence.
If between him and Shivers we can get 10 points between them every game next weekend, that would be huge.
And please coach, play Friday over Fisher.
Let's finish this season out with a win on Senior Day on Sunday and go into the #4/#5 game with the attitude and mentality to be up by 25 with ten to play so hopefully you can rest the starters for the last 10 minutes of the game.

Team played well on the road, just didn't have quite enough.
Hoping that Jimmy's reluctance to use the zone is perhaps a little bit of holding his cards until the tourney. Maybe we get a chance to see if the Saints get to face them again. Time will tell.
With regard to Monmouth being "vastly" superior to Siena at this point, I don't really agree. Yes, the Hawks are a better team, but I don't think the talent gap is all that large. Fran's three tourney teams, IMHO, had a greater advantage talent-wise in the MAAC than this Monmouth team.
All these points can be discussed and argued ad nauseum, though, right? We all have our opinions on where the problems lie.
I hope this one thing that I feel very strongly is shared by lots of us, though. This senior class is a great group of kids. Talented? Sure. Maybe not as talented as some would wish. Flawed? Yes, without doubt - maddeningly so, to some.
But I find them all so easy to root for! They have labored under what I would call less than optimal coaching for four years (Five for Brett!), but they miraculously haven't thrown in the towel. I give them all credit for persevering and appreciate that they have comported themselves in a manner that can make us proud to be Saints fans.
So as we head into the week leading into the MAAC tourney, I will be thinking about these kids. I will be wanting this tournament victory badly...for THEM.

I expect you to be one of us to be standing and letting all of our seniors know we appreciate them playing for Siena. You couldn't have said it better!

hoopsforever - I applaud your support and positive posts. Rest assured, all of us will, as we have always done, let our departing seniors know how much we appreciate their four or five years playing for the school we all love. To suggest otherwise is disturbing. There is disappointment, frustration and some anger but it is NOT focused or directed at ANY of the players, quite the contrary, IMO. I can't see how any kid can play for this head coach. Team gave it their best last night against unquestionably the best team in the conference. I hope we get a chance to continue that play against the Hawks in the friendly confines of our home court. Time will tell.
