With both teams tied for 3rd in the MAAC standings this should be a good time Friday night.
I'm not sure anyone needs much prodding for reason to attend, this is a big game for the Saints. For those undecided on what to do Friday please skip watching on ESPN3 and head down to the TUC and help Siena get this win.
Having the ability to grab those graduate transfers has been a big plus for the Gaels. A must have option in my opinion for any program that wants to stay competitive every year in the MAAC.
See you at the TUC, Let's Go Saints!

This Iona team can beat you in different ways. Crawford and Severe can light it up from outside and Washington can beat you down low. The Gaels have 4 players averaging double digit points and Iona has productive players on their bench.
It's going to take a team effort to get the win tonight.

Iona's 1-3 in MAAC road games, having only beaten Manhattan to date (losses Monmouth, Fairfield, Quinnipiac).
This is a game where Siena has to protect its home court if they want to establish themselves as a top tier MAAC threat. I expect a big supportive crowd will show up to the TUC tonight, please don't do your part in proving me wrong.

Wish I could be there ... the Iona game was always among my favorites. The Gaels are the one MAAC program that I truly don't like. (okay, not a big fan of Rider either.)
Key to stopping Iona is Washington. Their guards are going to score in bunches. If they are getting easy baskets inside from Washington, it makes their guards even more effective.

Hold them to under 35% from 3 and we'll win. They live and die by the 3 pt shot. We need to take advantage of their soft middle. They play guys that can all shoot, but they are easy to score on inside. Need JO to step up and get Washingtin in foul trouble like he did last year.

Bisping, not JO, was Washington's nemesis last year. Washington's first move is putting is shoulder down into the defender and initiating contact. Bisping takes charges... You have to cover the three but I'd say not at the expense of the 2 pt defense. Iona is on the road. You hope that helps and you focus on your close outs. You do NOT play man and let them drive on you. They will. No easy 2's or putting them at the line. Stay home. I worry JP will try to get cute and go away from the zone. If you allow Iona to score from 2, your are dead. D.E.D. dead.

I agree ... they'll hit some threes but if the Saints limit their transition points, keep Washington from killing them inside and rebound misses, they should have a good chance to win the game.

Siena vs. Iona. A significant game for both teams in determining their seeding for the MAAC tournament. As we know, it’s all about the MAAC, so here we are!
Siena has been playing better of late after a horrific (dumpster fire) start. They still have not reached, nor will they likely reach, preseason expectation form. A month ago, thoughts about winning this game would have bought you a room in the old Bellevue Psychiatric Hospital. Tonight, Siena has a legitimate chance is taking a one-game lead over the Gaels and attempt to inch closer to Monmouth (playing at home against Quinnipiac tonight). I thought that Siena had a shot at winning the league outright if they beat St. Peter’s and Manhattan on the road. Losing to St. Peter’s hurt and the glaring weakness of the bench probably takes them out of the 1-seed discussion. The goal is to pile up wins and see where you wind up.
I think Siena needs to play 40-minutes of team ball. Good passing and finding open shots (even 3’s) limits the number of possessions for Iona. This game should be a track meet, but Siena needs to play smart. Iona will have 3 or 4 guys scoring in double figures, the key will be defending the perimeter to limit Iona’s ability to pull away. Iona’s defense will allow Siena to shoot some 3’s. They should take the smart ones. If they make them, they can open up a good lead. A bonus is that Siena is shooting better from the free throw line. Making 3’s and giving the points back on the line will make for a frustrating loss. Having the backing from the home crowd will be a boost tonight. Winning this game will magnify the “unfair advantage because the tournament is on their home court” whining. A win will also break a streak that so desperately needs to be broken. Siena is a loser of five straight regular-season home games to Iona. 2/22/16 – lost 87-81 1/14/15 – lost 86-72 1/12/14 – lost 87-78 1/4/13 – lost 66-62 1/3/12 – lost 95-59
This is a good year to get off the schneid. Iona did beat Nevada on a neutral-court, but have been very inconsistent. Their strongest road win (3-6) was at St. Peter’s which is better than what Siena could do there. They have “weak” road losses again Fairfield, Quinnipiac and Delaware. These teams are fairly even, but the lack of a strong Siena bench worries me. Maybe WB get unglued from the bench and scores 12 and grabs 6 boards. Quis, Lavon and Brett should be OK, but JO is a mystery at this point. If Siena gets a quality game from him it can make the difference from losing to winning. Some 3’s from Quis, maybe a couple from Lavon and Brett along with Quis getting the ball to the open guy equates to a win. I think they get this one to start the MAAC tournament whining and create some excitement around the team heading down the stretch. Any recruits going to be in the house?
Siena 82, Iona 80.

We don't want a track meet. We want to slow this one down. Saints should never, ever try to outrun Iona while Cluess is their coach. There is a reason why Mitch has more wins as Siena coach than JP vs. Iona.
JP typically tries to run with a team that runs better.
Take one out of Mitch's playbook here Jimmy. Zone it up, protect the paint, attack inside, and wait for that cold stretch from 3 to hit them on the road and walk away with a win. Take away the easy ones and wait for them to tighten up.
Know who you are and play to strengths.

What the hell kind of graduate courses does Iona offer that are unique? It had been said in the past that you could get a degree by driving slowly by the College.

We dont want Brett in foul trouble. I do believe he did draw a charge against him last year, he was smart and selectively doubled washington - but it was JO on him 90% of the time last year. On other side of ball Washington was guarding JO and JO was able to get him in foul trouble both games
