Team may not have had a lot of emotion—but sometimes it’s just the other guy has way more talent- our guards are small, Iona’s 6’4” and 6’5” guards shot right over top of our 5’10” and 5’9” guards, as a group our guards are not good shooters, our bench is extremely weak and we are poor free throw shooting team- add it all up and we are 9-13 team. Iona played 4 guys with at least 1 foot in paint- not much room to drive or get ball inside. Sorry unless they can hit some shots to extend Iona’s zone it’s never going to work. Numbers don’t lie 2/3 of way into season, don’t kid yourself this team doesn’t have enough talent to compete for MAAC championship even on our home floor

It's me, its not rocket science. Coach says that Cluess, obviously not "Clueless" is one of Top 5 offensive Coaches in the country.
To me, he does only one thing that's very special. It's one thing that Jimmy, let alone any coach in the land, could very easily emulate.
It's the very same thing that all good successful coaches share.
Not just saying it. But living by it.
It's called instilling confidence in themselves as players to just play the game.
It's that next man up concept. Easy to say. Harder to live by.
Too many coaches feel they need to justify their existence through control.
The best coaches realize that instilling confidence is done by letting "all" your players(not just some) play through "some" mistakes in order to deliver more times than not is the key to winning.
In baseball doing this 30% of the time will equate to success.
In basketball, it has to be the concept of the first open look mentality that will enable a "team" to blossom offensively.
This team has 4 1000 point scorers on it. They once upon a time had a kid on the team that could have made it 5 1000 pt scorers on the team at once.
They still have a freshmen starting guard who can obviously score in bunches in a variety of different ways. They have another freshmen who has shown he is a slasher and can also hit the outside shot.
I have a feeling the local freshmen kid could hit shots if he was only told to look for his shot.
This team by far in the league this year on paper coming into the season had the best balanced scoring team in the league.
Both inside and out. All three big in the starting lineup have shown they can score both inside and out.
They played a great offensive game against a Top 5 Kansas team with missing players..
This team should be scoring in the high 70's or 80's on a consistent basis. Not the low to mid 70''s or the 60's.
They time and time again, will push the ball up the floor quickly which is great but if they don't see something immediately will throw back into first gear.
Here is the main difference between a Cluess offensive team and a Patsos offensive team.
Control. That's it. Simple. One guy has control issues. The other guy just let's them play.
Within reason, if "any" guy on the floor on an Iona team misses an open look, the next time he comes down the floor, if he has an open look or open lane to drive and shoot the ball again, regardless of who they are on that team, they without hesitancy, are taking that open look or open drive without feeling they will be immediately pulled.
Too many times we know from an offensive scheme we are going to be too predictable in a half court setting because we are playing 4 on 5 where that 5th guy won't even look to be a threat.
This team gives up way too many open looks or open drives early in the shot clock, especially if they missed their last two or three shots.
Bisbing does this all the time. Lavon does it. Marquis does it. The Richards kid certainly does it.
It's one thing to give up an open look or lane to make a pass or two or three quick passes (aka-Golden State Warriors) in order to get a better look but too many times they are giving up open looks and lanes based on the success of their previous time down the court in order to make a "non threatening" pass around the perimeter that is very easy to defend.
If your not set up to be a defensively minded team like a St. Peters which we are not(thank the lord-hohum basketball), if we are going to beat Monmouth or Iona this year, we have to start having the mentality and confidence to say we can outscore them.
That we have the mentality to expect we are going to score. That if your going to beat us, your going to need to score 90. That we expect that we are going to make two foul shots every time and certainly the front ends of one and one's.
You have the players to score coach. Their career stat lines are evidence of this.
It's up to you to make them all believe that they can outscore any team in this league.
Your job depends on it.

A close lose would have been acceptable in my book. Siena got a good old fashioned ass kicking last night.
I give Cluess a lot of credit for having his team pumped and ready to play on the biggest stage and best arena in the MAAC.
"We just come and play hard and we love the environment," Iona coach Tim Cluess said. "It's a great fan base, great basketball city. It's a terrific place to play, whether you're the home team or the visiting team. It's an electric environment. It's great to play here."
6,826 fans last night at the TUC.
Iona showed up, the fans showed up...

Iona just flat out better- some head scratching moves by coach, he comes out in full court press against a faster more athletic team, then he plays man and gets Brett and Lavon in foul trouble, and problem was in 2nd half when he did go zone we had two – sub 6 footers ( in Wright and Richards) and Iona’s big guards just shot right over them even when tightly guarded. On defense Iona had 4 players with at least 1 foot in paint most of the night- early on we had some wide open shots and missed them and then Jimmy insisted we get ball inside, even when we did the guys had tough shots as there usually was 3 or 4 Iona guys hanging all over them. I don’t want to bad mouth our guys , but that was really a game where you could see the difference in mid major talent and the low major talent Jimmy is recruiting. Unless Iona has a terrible shooting game we aren’t beating them ( and probably not Monmouth ) And who is responsible for all of this? According to Pastos it's the players! I don't even want to think about next year. Siena is the only team in the MAAC that is going in reverse. Doesn't D'Argenio/the Administration realize this? There where 7000 fans at the game last night and Pastos had a chance to keep it going but what does he do? Plays right to his teams biggest weakness and tries to play mam to man against a much more talented and athletic team and then in the post game, once again, dumps it all on the players. BS!!!! Who in their right mind would want to play for for this guy? Bye Bye Jimmy!

There is always next year.... Unless you are one of the four seniors. With the team Pastos has recruited do you really believe that? Who, and I'll keep this simple, in the MAAAC do you think Siena will beat next year?

Was it my imagination or did he stop coaching about five minutes into the second half. Cluess and three of his assistant coaches were all on their feet and in the game. JP and his assistants were on the bench with their head down. I think he hasn't got a clue when he says it's time to "go back to the drawing board" two-thirds of the way through the season. This was the season he pointed to for success. Clearly, he got that wrong too. He's been a .500 coach his whole career. His longevity in this league simply illustrates that he is not good enough to go higher. This season has become one of the worst disappointments since the Beyer days. Ugh!

Patsos was sick, give him a pass. He took it....if "It's on me!" was a merit badge, he'd be an Eagle Scout twice over....spent the entire ride home questioning how the hell does an entire team show up (physically) and NOT be READY - perhaps they spent too much time visiting the Albany Institute of Art...found a copy of the scout that Iona prepared on a discarded sticky note - 'Siena has two plays - an alley oop at the start of each half and maybe one late game following a TO - other play is called "2" - bench will not shoot - bleed their man D - have fun - Let's go Gaels!' After every loss Patsos says "it's on me"...at least he agrees with all of us that say its his fault he must go...

On paper it looks like Saints can’t win 5 games next year- Jimmy has history of over achieving in years nothing is expected of him, and under achieving in years he is expected to be good. I wouldn’t be shocked to see Jimmy win 10-13 games next year- and given what we have coming back and have coming in is asking a lot. The wasted last 3 years of recruiting is basically choking the program. Jimmy obviously is not a good fit for Saints, heard a lot of disgruntled fans last night at TUC- he is never going to have Siena consistently good, 4 years in he has lost 5 straight to Iona on the TUC floor. Is 1-7 vs UA and Vermont- struggles against top teams in MAAC , is a poor recruiter and is a mediocre X and O coach-other than that he isn’t bad..LOL

It's going to be a long 13 months or so before Siena can hopefully get back to being a midmajor power. Pretty obvious Jimmy is not the guy but we have to suffer though another year of name dropping, field trips, cliches and bad basketball before we hopefully get a really coach at Siena again.

- Cluess owns Jimbo. Not only Cluess, Brown, Becker, Monmouth coach and Dunne. And I wouldn't be shocked if Marist beats us again this year in Po-Town.

Stop with the field trip criticism. NCAA does not allow 24/7 practice.

Stop with the field trip criticism. NCAA does not allow 24/7 practice. A tad touchy today are we? Shame you can't seem to recognize a little humor in your black world! 😎
