He said that was a program goal. You can't stand relevant as a mid major if you only get to the dance once every dozen years. In a season where you have the luxury of a group of talented Senior players you should be all over winning EVERY game to make a relevant run at that program goal. If you miss the mark and end up in the NIT you need to belong there as a mid. Making all about four days the first week of March is too likely to get your ass blown out of the building in the first round of any tournament. I don't disagree with that, but you also have to be realistic and do the baby steps. We weren't even expected to win the conf this year. We were picked second in most places. I was never under any illusion we had much shot at a first round win (not that it would be impossible). I would be more than happy to make the NCAAs. Anything else is gravy. I would also have been pleased winning the conf and going to the NIT. Just like 4 days in March is important and always a shot for us - it is the same for several other good teams in the MAAC. That's their goal as well. Baby steps is for a team going from D 2,3 to D1. Siena is a known quantity, better known in the past but still a known quantity that if the small thinkers would move aside would again reach the apex we all want them to reach.

My program goal is less than sweet 16-- getting to the dance at least twice a decade with a 13 seed or better would keep me happy, with nit and lower tier tourneys in the off years. Right now this program can't win one road game, whether it's 5 or 1500 miles away, whether the opponent is ranked 5 or 195. It's over.

If Patsos isn't getting it done with this group he isn't ever gonna get it done at Siena. Time to start thinking about cutting your loses and moving on. Again, I will ask...before this season started did you pick us to win an NCAA game?

It would have been virtually impossible to predict a first round win - I did drink the on-paper Kool Aid and believed that this talented (read that talent on the playing side) team (read that players) had a more than reasonable shot at first making the NCAA field and getting a decent draw in the first round, i.e.., a 12 or 13 seed - optimistic? Yes! Impossible? No! But then my senior brain has been forever tainted by the accomplishments of our Patron Saint Of Winning Siena Basketball and for that, I am forever damned.....

If sweet 16 is goal you need to become a Syracuse fan. Siena reaching sweet 16 is delusional. If that's the goal of any team outside the power 5 its delusional. Wake the F up. It's Siena, its the maac, sweet 16s don't happen.

What the hell does winning a NCAA game have to with it, at this juncture most would consider winning the MAAC or winning the tournament a major accomplishment. Given our coaches 12+ year track record in the same conference, don't hold your breath for either. So in short no I didn't predict an NCAA win. Why the hell would I? So far in 3+ seasons all I have seen is instability, not growth! My point is even with talent (again mult 1000 pt scorers, 4 solid seniors and a highly touted soph) we're struggling. With this group I expect better than 0 7 on the road and 3 - 7 overall. It's not a good sign. This team although talented lacks growth.

Jimmy's comment about not being concerned about wins and losses at this point just screams low-major OR rebuilding phase. This is a senior laden team. Not a rebuild year. Did I expect a first round win? No. That said, getting one certainly isn't a historic event. We've done it a few times. We shouldn't be settling for "just getting there" with the history of this program.

Winning an NCAA game has everything to do with it...at least in this thread. Check Glen's post on the page before this. His goal is to make the Sweet 16! That's 2 wins. Since it's been over 6 years since we've even been, I still say baby steps and just get there first. Beyond that and your testy post, we are in agreement.

I will be happy just getting to the tournament first. It will have been 7 years. That is the immediate goal. Win the MAAC tournament!

4 years is a lifetime in college hoop. Good coaches can take good jobs and turn them around on a dime.

This may be an over simplification but I think what most fans want is for Siena to do the best we can with what we have...this includes players and coaches with a goal of some improvement in all aspects each year...that is what we did for 40 years, until the past 7 years, there were some bumps in the road but the NCAA,s with a win were always a possibility and the NIT was almost assumed...I don't see how anyone can argue with a realistic goal like this
