Yes for that we could ask James Carr. I get it, I really do. It's just that maybe I am Pollyanna enough to think that a school this size, with rich tradition, is letting too much ride on the business of basketball. I am naive enough to believe that there needed to be an investment far earlier in broadening the academic profile. I am stupid enough to think that a coaching staff could embrace the foundation of the institution, find collegiate athletes who are committed to competition at this level and perhaps beyond, the coaches commit to work to develop their talents and minds to prepare them for life, and maybe while those kids are turning into men they grab lightening in a bottle.

For those of us who know you, we know how much you care about Siena and how much you want the school to succeed and enhance its standing. Unfortunately D1 hoop, Siena doesn't make the rules, can't even get the rules enforced in its own league. Options are we either play by the rules everyone else does, unfortunate yes or we drop down in level of competition. I like to see integrity come back to D1 but believe that I along with most here will be in an underground condominium before ethics, morals integrity returns.

D1 HOOP has been dirty for a long time, and still there have been excellent programs built on good foundations at smaller schools. I still think one can keep their own (integrity) house in order and be enjoyably competitive.
The one thing I will never agree on is abandoning all rules and eliminating disciplinary actions because you are paying the 'student athlete' to perform.

Disagree wholeheartedly with the statement, "kid screws up you don't take him off the court, your (sic) paying him to be there, discipline him in a way he will remember." IMHO, these are still kids who are going to screw up and still need to learn that actions need consequences. Are you saying that student athletes should get preferential treatment? Siena has a Conduct Code and everything is clearly spelled out...there is a due process procedure in place so students can appeal and be heard. I'm sure the form of discipline used will be "remembered". It has to mean something. Time out in your room with a TV and electronics is not a good consequence IMO. I am so grateful that the admin handles these things rather than Coaches, who have a vested interest in the outcome. Many other schools let these things slide giving the kids a "talking to" only. That's not what Siena is about....man up, take the consequences and learn from it!!

I think when kids screw up we should cut off their fingers, bash in their knee caps, disembowel them, draw and quarter them, dip them in oil, set them on fire, and feed them to crocodiles...then kill and burn the crocodiles and feed them to sharks..and then put the sharks on poles in Chernobyl as an example.
But I'm told that's not the politically correct thing to do.

Candidly we could waterboard them. All kidding aside they are not being disciplined by not letting them compete on the court. Be real this is a business, we all agree they should be disciplined, take the PC crowd out of it, discipline in a way that it will sink in, not affect your revenue. Think out of the box for discipline reasons. You want to be righteous, above everyone else drop down to D3. Be realistic, stop living in the past.
